Launched Gosh! Kids, a creative arts education programme (photography, art, design) and community that transforms children from passive consumers into active creators. In all we do, we want to bring our children's creativity to the next level.

I write content for Gosh! Kids and my own newsletter (Five For Your Hive), with the aim of inspiring readers to rethink their perspectives towards creativity & life.

Begun my creative journey in 2013 as a photographer (conceptual and art photography, focused on branding) and have collaborated with brands such as Apple. Many of my past work and portfolio of photographs can be found on my instagram @mathieubeth.

Previously part of a dynamic team of transport planners who plan the future transportation infrastructure for Singapore - shaping the future transportation network that includes identifying, developing and evaluating new road and rail infrastructure projects.

I project managed the design, civil construction/modification of bus stops in Abu Dhabi to be safe, accessible and operationally efficient for buses.  The scope of the initiative was US$220M over 15 years.  I managed the whole life-cycle from budgets, programme, scoping of works, fee structure, project controls, tender evaluation, design review, construction tenders and construction supervision.  I was the client representative for all phases of the project and managed 3 consultancy and 4 construction projects with the current combined value of US$80M during my appointment.  

This project won 1st place for the 2017 Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport “Nawayeff Excellence Award” for “Distinguished Technical Project /Team”. 

Other successes of this initiative involved developing a comprehensive, engineering-based decision process applicable throughout the Emirate to enable developers, planners and engineers to plan and design for new bus stops and the upgrading of existing ones.  The work also involved developing the engineering standard for bus stops under various operational and urban road environments.  The process won the strong support from the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council as it was in line with Abu Dhabi 2030 vision to build a world class public transport infrastructure for Abu Dhabi residents.  Other success included the completion of construction for a pilot 100 bus stops/lay-bys with a substantial cost savings to the DoT.   

Designer / Design Reviewer – Bus Related Infrastructure 
I provided technical guidance in the in-house design of bus related infrastructure for the DoT and have completed the YAS Island 150 number temporary bus depot, the ADNOC Petroleum Institute bus terminals and various terminals scattered in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.  I was also responsible for the review of urban planning submissions and in some projects, served as a contributing member to various transportation masterplans initiatives by and for the  DoT.

Project Manager - Minor Safety and Accident Investigation Study (AIS) Works
I was responsible for the City’s Minor Safety and Accident Investigation Study (AIS) Works and the Professional Traffic Engineering Services Contract’s budget, programme and technical output.  The work involved the identification of accident Black Spots in the City, develop traffic/road engineering improvement schemes, undertaking economic analysis, prioritising, public consultation, application for funding from the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) and to oversee the construction works. Key technical responsibilities were controlling the traffic and safety engineering analysis, design outputs and coordinating the public consultation required in the successful implementation of the schemes. The total value of works was approximately US$4.25M and consisted of over 30 road improvement schemes implemented in 2 years.

Project Manager – Traffic Signals and Pedestrian Signals Programme
This responsibility involved managing the City’s traffic signals and pedestrian crossing budget, programme and the traffic engineering analysis and design in accordance to the National Traffic Signal Specification.  The work involved managing the traffic engineering consultants during the study phase, schematic concept design, prioritization, public consultation, detailed design, tender preparation and project managing the Engineer for the physical works construction.  Value of project US$1M in 2 years.  

Project Manager – School Travel Plan
I was responsible for managing the traffic engineering aspect of the City’s School Travel Plan programme.  I worked closely with the School Travel Planner and Co-ordinator to ensure the successful implementation of school zone traffic schemes. The total value of the implementation over 2 years was approximately US$6M and consisted of the implementation of over 50 road related schemes in major West Auckland suburbs

Road Safety Audits 
Circle Line Stage 5   –Holland Village Station, South Buona Vista Station, National University Station. 
I carried out independent road safety audits of the major road diversion plans for the main contractor (WH-STEC-AM JV) who was leading the tunneling and underground Metro station box construction works at these 3 locations.  

Apia Road Road Network Upgrade, Samoa
A World Bank job in Samoa involving in a 5km road upgrade to a four-lane divided roadway, including the upgrade of 17 intersections.  I was involved in the design of the signalized intersections and traffic signal phasing, signal aspects for the proposed intersections upgrades.

Crash Reduction Study
Rural Highways Crash Reduction Study (CRS) 2005-07, Auckland
I was a team member of the CRS monitoring for State Highways (Region 2) for the period 2005-2007.  This team comprised of representatives from Transit New Zealand, Land Transport New Zealand (LTNZ), Police and Transport Local Authorities.   My responsible were deriving crashes history data, analyzing, reporting, identifying accident black spots/crash trends and recommending remedial measures to improve safety for motorists.

Le Van Tam Underground Commercial Complex, Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam
This is a 3-level basement commercial and retail complex with car park facilities for about 20 buses, 1300 cars and 1000 motorcycles in the heart of the city.  I provided traffic management and car park engineering advice to the Architects and provided scoping for the traffic impact analysis required by the Ministry of Transport for this colossal development.

I led a team of 3 technical officers. Responsibilities and achievements were:

Study, design and implementation of traffic management projects to optimize junction efficiency and safety.  Over a 5 years, our team implemented over 500 traffic schemes.  These include introducing over 60 new signalized junctions, traffic signal modifications and pedestrian crossing facilities and over 10 school zones schemes.

Study and advice on traffic management and safety related schemes to road design teams for over 19 major road construction projects of value US$5M to US$30M.

I was a Team leader for LTA's in-house road safety audits and was also reviewer of external road safety auditors' reports.

Undertook traffic impact studies and reviewed submission of Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) Reports. 

Assist local town councils and coordinate with private consultants to implement traffic management related projects.

Traffic Engineer

My career journey spans across 3 culturally and politically diverse countries: Singapore, New Zealand and United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi), with experiences in a private consultancy firm, local, district and national transport agencies.  I have also travelled extensively to Europe, Asia, Pacific and the USA and take keen interest in their transport systems.  As a transport design specialist,  I am passionate about creating balance in road safe and traffic efficiency for the community by leveraging on data especially in Geo-spatial Information Science (GIS).  My engineers, consultants and government agencies come to me to co-create traffic engineering solutions to complex problems.

As Deputy Director of Traffic Scheme Design Development Division, I lead a team of 75 staff in regulating, designing and optimising traffic and road safety network in Singapore. One of my key team projects is the nation-wide programme for modifying over 1200 signalised junctions to be fully controlled with Red-Amber-Green (RAG) arrows. 

Another project involved retrofitting over 300 signalised pedestrian crossings in 10 town centres for the visually impaired to enable them to tap their concession cards on the push buttons to activate a crossing tone.  Expanding their mobility range and choices.

Outside of professional life, I enjoy drawing, photography, swimming, and hiking.
