Reece Writes is my content writing, copywriting, and LinkedIn profile writing business launched from scratch in the upstairs bedroom of my mother’s house in March 2020, when I decided that instead of staying in my job, I had to make my own job to get what I wanted out of life. 

I taught myself almost everything I know, with my interest in LinkedIn being kickstarted by Pam Case and Ian Denny's LinkedOnline Masterclass, and then learned on the job for the rest of my career since then.

They own and operate several of the world's largest e-commerce marketplaces and are one of the world's largest investment corporations. Rapid Pictures + Radiant Post

Radiant Post and Rapid Pictures are a pair of post-production houses that have worked with numerous production companies and TV channels, including the BBC and Channel 4. Post-production means they edit the shows before they go live on the air.  

I’ve worked with them on LinkedIn profile optimization for several months, interviewing employees in-person and on Zoom with my own questionnaire and methods I’ve derived from studying. This has involved capturing each employee’s tone of voice while aligning their profiles with the company branding.

I’ve also managed RP’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts as well as their LinkedIn company page. They’ve gained dozens of new followers on their company page since I started posting there in September.

YAYWORLD is a company that owns 100s of localized websites worldwide, where companies can hire and pay writers to produce posts hosted on those sites. For example, an American company can hire a writer to make posts to publish on YAYUSA, and a British company can hire a writer to make posts on YAYUK.

I’ve been working with them consistently for several months as part of their Small Business Campaign. YAYWORLD sponsors me to produce posts for various companies, but I have discretion about who I choose to write for. For each business, I write approximately 1000 words covering the:

I also select high-quality images and use appropriate keywords for SEO purposes. Since I began working with them, my posts have received nearly 700 unique visitors from 26 countries worldwide.

At Words into Wealth, I manage LinkedIn cold outreach for 4 of their client accounts. These include high-level business owners and industry specialists in various niches. 

My work involves nurturing prospects to the point where they book an appointment. On average, Words into Wealth closes 8-15 appointments per month per client, and I work under their supervision to achieve this, but have creative freedom with what I say and how I say it. 

In my experience so far, I've:

- Created my own customised 3-part follow-up sequence for non-replying prospects

I worked for them over several days in August 2020 to complete FAQs for their new Funeralcare website, which helped buyers get their questions answered regarding common purchases like urns, headstones, and memorial flowers. I needed to:

■ Write in a way that was simple to understand

I didn’t know what coffee was until I was 16.

I used to think it was my fault.

- I lived in London
- I had Internet access
- Coffee shops were only a bus ride away 

Every morning at home with mum we had cups of tea. 

Earl Grey was the blend - always Earl Grey.

I genuinely thought it was the only kind of hot drink out there! 

Then one day my friend invited me for coffee. 

I was always open-minded so I thought why not…

And I couldn’t believe I’d never had it before.

It was delicious, like a whole new world to me.

One day I asked myself:

“Why did I never know about something so basic for 16 years?”

Turns out there were a lot of things I didn’t know…

- How to ride a bike
- What a pint was

The honest answer I’ve had to come to terms with:

I missed out on having a normal childhood.

When Covid hit I got sent home from my job stacking shelves. 

We got told “2 weeks to stop the spread”. For me, that meant 2 weeks to start my online business! 

I hopped on my laptop and began writing pitches on Facebook job boards. 

1st client landed 1 week later - he liked the way I wrote and wanted me to start ASAP.

Began churning out 500-word blog posts getting paid 15 cents a word. 

Each post had a 24-hour deadline. 

Flawless grammar with keywords in all the right places. 

Anything else meant the work getting sent back.

Perfect blogs written super fast with 0 mistakes became my why.

I got quick enough to do 2 fully edited blogs in 60 minutes.

Every day for 3 months, I’d speed-write about 10-12 of them.

Got me about $50 a day. 

Enough to pay mum rent and buy myself food.

But the lockdowns continued.

Weeks turned into months.

Soon I was making enough to quit my job.

My notice period ended only 4 days before the lockdowns did.

I never looked back. 

Since then, I’ve pivoted many times.

But I’ve never regretted my decision to go all in.

I wouldn’t be living in the lovely community I live in now.

I wouldn’t have many of the great friends I’ve made along the way.

And most of all, I wouldn’t have the lifestyle I want.

When your work gives you time and freedom...

That’s how you know you’ve made the right choice.

I spent 20 minutes staring at the screen without a clue and finally got annoyed enough to type something. 

It’s crazy how much I’ve written for others compared to how little I’ve written for myself. 

Been in the marketing game since Covid, telling stories for other people but never telling my own. Kinda missed the point there, haven't I… 

Now, when they get started most people spend ages trying to perfect their content - I’m trying to ‘un’-perfect it. 

Because we don’t perfect our words before we text a friend do we… 

We don’t try and paint an unreal picture of ourselves to people who know everything about us do we… 

Because we know it’s pointless. They’ll see straight through it. 

And there’s enough auto-generated too-perfect slop on here as it is. All because we care too much about being liked. 

Can’t look like that. Can’t post that. Can’t say that. Enough already. 

That’s why my profile starts with all the suffering I’ve been through, and only after that do I say anything about what I’ve actually done.

What if we all just stopped and told the world who we really are? Hard, embarrassing, unrewarding, absolutely. But most importantly - true.

In that spirit, here’s what I’ve done this week: 

- Put blocking apps on my phone and laptop to stop being crap at focusing
- Started a ghostwriting course last week and put 3 hours a day in (was supposed to be 4)  
- Did my daily DM outreach work for my agency client 
- Rebuilt my daily schedule as it wasn’t serving me (still fixing it)
- Ran some errands locally
- Wrote this

Not cool enough? Don’t care 
Not enough hustle? Don’t care

Real me? You got it.

Read a book in one sitting about 3 weeks ago that blew my mind.

Didn’t even know what it was about. Had no intention of buying it. Usually don’t do “self-help” books - they’re only words on a page so what are they ever gonna do? 

By the time I’d got through it... covered the whole thing with underlines and proved myself very wrong indeed.

Turns out I’d just found the treasure map for my own brain.

After 15 years of misery locked behind forced smiles, I got what I needed. 

The truth. 

Why anxiety and depression use my body like a cheap hotel chain.

Why a good night’s sleep is always a lucky gamble.

Why I’ve never understood my thoughts and feelings.

That book was Recovery Is My Best Revenge by Carolyn Spring.

If you’ve ever suffered deep pain in your life, read it. You’ll learn something.

3 lessons gave me peace of mind straight away: 

1) your feelings are meant to be felt - not numbed, denied or avoided 

2) abuse doesn’t mean you’re mad, or bad - you’re a resourceful survivor 

3) recovery is possible - you’ve survived abuse, so you’ll survive healing
 
Felt like the fog of war had just lifted. That I wasn’t alone in the dark anymore. 

I’m still in a lot of pain, but I understand the pain.

It’s not this big scary monster here to ruin my life and take everything. 

If it were… then it would have done it back when I was little and defenceless.

So no matter how long it takes me to recover - knowing the truth means I’m already a winner.
