I see three main roles in the content world in 2-3 years:

1. Systems builder (content engineer) - You like workflows, automation, infrastructure. You're building the machine.

2. Strategic thinker (content strategist) - You like narrative, positioning, distribution. You're deciding what the machine builds.

3. Specialist (brand, research, ghostwriting) - You do the work AI can't: original insights, executive voice, deep reporting.

The middle is disappearing. "I write blog posts and optimize them for SEO" isn't a role in 2 years. It's either "I built a system that writes and optimizes 100 posts per month" or "I write the posts that require deep expertise and can't be templated."

Writers, zoom out. The most advanced AI lab on the planet is hiring content and copy talent. 

They’re hiring for judgement (/taste). When everything can be generated and words become a commodity, the scarce skill = selection.

The B2B content landscape is shifting and most marketing teams are either behind on it or actively fighting it. Here's what I'm seeing companies move toward:

a. LinkedIn - and not just for the CEO. The old playbook was: activate the founder, and maybe a couple of executives. What's actually working now is a full-team approach. GTM folks (SDRs, AEs, sales managers), product, engineering, design - everyone sharing their work from their own lens. A sales rep talking about the objections they hear every day is more credible than a brand post saying "we understand your pain points." A product manager walking through a build decision is more interesting than a product update email. The more voices, the more surface area.

b. Newsletters - specifically the monthly company update format. Underrated, especially for service providers. You take every client, prospect, and contact you've ever met and you give them a genuine window into what you're building, what you're seeing, and what's changed. No hard sell. Just consistent presence (cc Sayan, Pratistha).

c. YouTube and long-form video - teams are building out actual shows. The best ones I've seen bring in teammates, current clients, prospective clients, and let them share their perspectives openly. It extends your IP beyond short-form and creates content that genuinely lives somewhere (cc Rory).

And here's what I'm seeing companies move away from: ebooks, white papers, traditional PR.  

The companies still pouring budget into the old formats are mostly carrying those tactics out, because it's familiar and easy to report on. "We published 3 white papers this quarter" looks fine in a marketing update. "Our AE's LinkedIn post started 4 conversations with target accounts" is harder to put in a slide but worth a lot more.
