What an incredible few days in Phoenix.

This year felt bigger, bolder, and more connected than ever.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk:
- AI
- PMOs
- Leadership
- Prioritization
- Transformation
- And everything in between 🙏

These conversations are why I keep coming back.

Here are my 5 booth-side takeaways from this year’s Summit.

1️⃣ In-person conversations hit differently
The best moments weren’t planned.
They happened at the booth:
- “I finally get to meet you in real life!”
- Deep dives into prioritization and AI readiness
- PMOs comparing notes on the same challenges

No virtual meeting can replicate this energy or momentum.

2️⃣ PM & PMO leaders are thinking bigger
The questions I heard most often weren’t about templates or tools.
But about direction:
- How do we evolve our PMO to match?
- Where is project management headed?
- How do we become strategic partners, not process enforcers?

This year’s agenda reflected this shift - more strategy, more enterprise-level thinking, more emphasis on value.

3️⃣ Attendance growth = organizational commitment
The booth gave me a front-row seat to the surge in attendance.
I’ve been exhibiting since 2022 - and the growth is undeniable.
I met:
- extensive PMO teams
- cross-functional strategy groups
- senior leaders scouting ideas to take back to their organizations

PMI Global Summit has become a marquee event, and organizations are investing in it.

4️⃣ PMOs are in “value activation” mode
The most common booth topics:
- Elevating PM talent
- Portfolio prioritization under real constraints
- Getting AI-ready (data, governance, adoption)
- Strengthening consistency across scaling organizations
- Moving from “process + templates” → outcome, alignment, enablement

PMOs know the expectation has changed - and they’re rising to it.

5️⃣ AI is everywhere - but the conversation has matured
This year, AI questions were practical, not hypothetical:
- What’s the right first step?
- How do we upskill our PMs?
- How do we prepare our data?
- What’s realistic for transformation?

There’s excitement, yes — but also clarity, responsibility, and readiness.

I’m incredibly grateful for:
- Every question
- Every conversation
- And every “can we pick this up after the Summit?”

If we carry just a fraction of this week’s energy into our organizations, 2026 will be transformative for PMOs and project leaders everywhere.

Here’s to stronger execution, smarter prioritization, and PMOs that help organizations focus, adapt, and deliver. 💡

This is what a newly minted PMO leader recently shared with me.

And honestly?
 
I hear this every single week.

I call this the “clean-slate syndrome.”

Leaders are told they’re now responsible for setting up (or fixing) a PMO, and that’s about all the detail they get.

It’s a clean slate that PMO leaders suddenly need to work with:
- no vision identified
- no expectations set
- no workload reduced
- no requirements defined

And so, the PMO setup becomes a “side-hustle”, squeezed in between deadlines, fire drills, project escalations, and stakeholder pressures.

What happens next is predictable.

They go heads-down and:
- write playbooks
- create tools & templates

Roll them out, train teams, and hope it sticks.

Adoption is high at first, then it slowly fades.

Within a few weeks, it disappears.

Then comes the final blow - slow, painful, and frustrating - ending in disappointment and a PMO leader who’s told they “still need to prove value.”

We all know what comes next.

(Hint: high effort ≠ high credit.)

This happens because PMO leaders are forced into tactics without strategy.

Execution without change management.

Output without alignment.

Action without sponsorship.

And I’ve said it for years:

Clarify the true pain points, goals, and constraints across teams.

🔽 2. Evaluate Organizational Readiness
Understand maturity, governance, processes, data quality, and change appetite.

🔽 3. Build Requirements (Smartly)
Translate needs into business + technical requirements that balance simplicity with scalability.

🔽 4. Map Requirements to Use Cases
Define real workflows the tool must support: intake, scheduling, resources, reporting, etc.

🔽 5. Use Comparison Templates
Score tools side-by-side across functionality, UX, configurability, reporting, integrations, and admin effort.
