A little about me...

I'm an investor, entrepreneur, restaurant owner and explorer of 99 countries. I host the Try Life On Podcast, and coach professional 1:1 on wealth and freedom, helping you build lifestyle you don’t need vacation from.

In 2021 I retired from the 9-5 world after 25 years as Senior Executive at Accenture, a global consulting firm. Was also a Federal Agent through my US Air Force military service. I retired after 22 years as Lt. Colonel. And I became a midnight police officer later in life for the Montgomery County Police Department as a means to give back to local community. Yes, all at the same time.

Along with partners, founded Quattro Capital, a private equity firm. I’ve acquired roughly $250M in real estate with investor partners. I started buying real estate in my 20s as a means to capture time freedom to live more. 

I have strong passion for living life leveraging freedom principles (time, financial, location, purpose & relationships) and started Try Life On Media to help others do the same. The Try Life On podcast and speaking engagements are my joy. 

I love to say I used real estate, passive income, lifestyle design principles combined with leveraging my three 9-5 professional careers to beat the rat race and build lifestyle I don't need vacation from. I’ve completed that mission and now my passion is to help others do same.

As the Commonwealth's CIO I led a mid-size enterprise with responsibility covering a full range of IT services for over 60,000 end users with over 2000 remote sites and redundant data centers.  I am the Virginia Information Technology Agency (VITA) head and provide the critical infrastructure for the Commonwealth's digital government applications.

Provides mission critical enterprise level IT services for the Members, Committees, Leadership and staff of the U.S. House of Representatives (over 12,000 direct customers).  Lead an IT staff of 278 FTEs and 80 contactors while implementing an $89M annual budget. Responsible for IT vision, strategy, day-to-day operations, Cyber posture, Business Continuity/ Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) and investment controls for the House’s information technology efforts.  

Provides program oversight to over 70 IT and INFOSEC projects.  Provides and implements the IT Risk Management governance policies to pass an annual FEDGAAP audit following NIST standards and OMB A-123 Internal Controls. 

Duties include leadership and direction of the operations and staff  for:  Core Financial ERP Enterprise Application systems; Enterprise websites (over 200), Cyber and Information Security infrastructure (Firewalls, IDS, IPS and Security Analytics) and operations; enterprise IT infrastructure (SAN, email, Internet, Intranet) and operations.  Responsible for the IT infrastructure in redundant data centers, over 850 remote locations and a 24 x 7 Customer Contact Center.

Direct report to the CIO.  Responsible for 135 staff and $40M annual budget. Responsible for the CAO’ server infrastructure, encrypted Enterprise Storage, Backup,  Enterprise Email and Mobile Device Management (MDM).  Implemented a critical upgrade of a Legislative branch network from FDDI to Resilient Packet Ring and provided project oversight for the Houses’ Internet connection upgrade to Gigabit Ethernet.

Senior network technical advisor to the Director of Network Operations.  Managed a 30 person staff operating the House’s Data Network, (Internet, LAN and WAN).  Managed the House’s Gigabit Ethernet/ ATM based LAN covering a 5 office building campus.  Implemented a $12M annual IT budget

Determined requirements and designed a 4500 user, 8000 node LAN using IT industry leading edge switches, routers and network management software.  Coordinated the integration of legacy telephony equipment (PBX, ISDN) with the new data systems.

Leads an IT staff of 200 FTEs and manages multiple IT infratructure  contracts totallying over $360M per year spend.  Successfully migrated the IT services amounting to $360M/annual IT spend  to a multi-supplier contract model.  Responsible for the state IT vision, strategy, day-to-day operations, Cyber posture, Business Continuity/ Disaster Recovery (BC/DR), Cloud Brokerage Service and investment controls for the state’s executive branch information technology efforts.  Responsible for approving all Virginia executive branch IT Procurements in excess of $1M  (about $425M per year) as well as RFP, contract and project approvals.
