I Advise Founders Using COMPASS Method OS | CEO at Herald | Growth Advisor | Author | Speaker and Podcast Host

I’ve been referred to as the “guy behind the curtain” for Christian public figures. 

I would always chuckle. 

I’ve gotten to work with a lot of them over the years and I am blessed that my skills and my worldview get to stay aligned so often. 

One of my favorite things about working with Bethany is her boundaries. 

She is huge on alignment in every area of her life and she has a long line of brands who want to leverage her story - some good, and some bad. 

But this new partnership with H2Tab, Ultimate Human, and Gary Brecka and his son Cole is going to shake the internet. 

And I’m feeling a boldness like never before going into 2026. 

We are building out a new sister company now at Herald called Witness. 

It is based off Hebrews 12:1 and we intend to build a cloud of Christian leaders who work together to lift brand names up in the market that are doing worthwhile things, while honoring the Lord on the journey. 

There is a shift happening here and I’m ready for it.

When my son turned 12, he said something that hit me harder than he realized.

“Dad, you always take the time to like what I like so we can spend time together. So this year for my birthday, I’m going to give you a gift… I’m becoming a football fan with you.”

That was almost three years ago. He turns 15 in a few weeks.

And the timing couldn’t have been more ironic. The Titans were 7–3 the week he went “all in.” Then the slide started.

Since that moment of commitment:
• They finished that season 7–10.
• Then 6–11.
• Then 3–14.
• This year: 1–9 so far, and realistically they’ll end up 1–16 or maybe 2–15.

Not exactly the highlight reel he signed up for.

But here’s what matters: he stayed. And so did I.

What these last few seasons have taught us:

1. Loyalty only counts when it’s tested.

It’s easy to stay invested when the scoreboard makes you feel smart. Loyalty shows up when the results don’t.

2. Commitment is revealed in the losses, not the wins.

A kid who sticks with a team through three straight years of decline is learning a lesson most adults avoid.

3. Shared disappointment builds stronger bonds than shared excitement.

Winning brings a rush. Losing brings clarity. Week after week, we kept showing up. Together.

4. This mirrors life and leadership far more than winning seasons do.

Growth always dips before it rises. Teams plateau. Results flatten. People question the plan. The ones who stay long enough to learn from the tough stretches are the ones who build something that lasts.

The Titans may not give us many wins this year. But staying with them has given me something more important: a front-row seat to watching my son develop grit, consistency, and conviction.

Championships come and go.
Character outlasts everything.

Sometimes good leadership is having the hard conservations sooner. We have had an abnormal 45 days at Herald, but this is part of leading well. 

A record trailing twelve months on top line and bottom line, followed by a 45 day window where so much changed. 

I post a lot about growth, but some times the best growth is the growth forged when you are squeezed.  

Here is the message I sent to our team earlier this week -

“Team,

I want to give you a clear and early look at what’s ahead for us after December. 

As of now, we’re projecting that about 50% of our current agency retainer revenue will conclude by year-end.

Roughly half of that change is due to clients not achieving the ROI they wanted to justify continuing their retainer. The other half is tied to factors unrelated to us—internal leadership changes, exits, budget shifts, or timing issues on their side. 

In every case, I am confident in the work we did, and in that we delivered growth when we could, and operated with integrity. This isn’t a matter of failure only-- it’s the natural mix of outcomes when you deliver in agency work. 


Because of this shift, we’ll be moving from a retainer model and heavy W2 system to an hours-based/ part-time model in 2026. I want to be upfront about that so you can plan ahead, especially if a set 40 hours matter for your personal budget. I will DM with each of you to land what that will mean.

What I want you to hear clearly is this: I intend to send you as much work as possible. We still have a stream of project work, some potential COMPASS builds, my personal launches, and 3 advisory opportunities in the pipe now. 

The structure of how we bill is changing, but the need for your skill and output isn’t. At the same time, I am not intending to build the agency side back to the level that it was, so moving to an hours model/ project model makes more sense for how work will ebb and flow going forward.

I’m sharing this early so you’re not caught off guard, and so that we can navigate the transition with clarity and stability. If you want to talk through what this means for you specifically, I’m here.

We will walk through this with transparency, steadiness, and a plan.”

Herald will be fine as the Advisory side of our business is as stable as ever. 

This could also be a blessing in disguise long term as we double down on our COMPASS Method OS offering as the main thing, and, eventually, the only thing we do. 

I am grateful for all of our clients.
I am grateful for the lessons learned when you win and when you “lose”.

Because truly the only loss is to not learn in every season.
