I head to India this weekend.
The 4th time this year.
Why? Primarily to build TRUST with my expanding India team.

I have learnt that building a global team is all about building trust.

I must trust them, but more importantly they must also trust me.

Without trust, you just won't grow. You have NOTHING.

So for anyone with team members overseas, if you have not met them in person, book that plane ticket and go and see them. 

It will make a world of difference to you but it will mean the world to them!

A few days out of the office in a foreign land, will probably be the best business decision you will ever make.

How else can you build trust so quickly, and ensure your team and business grows?

If I was starting Samera today, in late 2025, what is the ONE thing I would focus on?

24 years of experience, countless mistakes, and the ONE thing would be.

Master Marketing.

Last Friday I had the pleasure of hosting and chairing the ICAEW Sole and Small Practice Insight Group London event at Muswell Hill Golf Club.

I really enjoyed sharing my experiences, mistakes and guidance and being able to hear how other members are dealing with a rapidly changing industry.

Technology is moving fast, offshore teams are growing, but in my view the one thing an accounting firm can control is WHO they choose to serve.

That's determined by your Marketing.

Back in 2002, I chose to focus on a niche - Dental clients. 

Running a firm is tough, and its even tougher if you have no clients or poor quality clients.

But when you get the marketing right, your business changes, you gain confidence. You change.

You can hire, offshore, invest in new technology.....and hopefully enjoy the rewards of running a firm because you have constant through put of quality clients.

Is it tough to do? 

Yes.

But its possible.

For any old timers like me, what would be the ONE thing you would focus on if you were starting out today?

An amazing morning at the super impressive Bannari Amman Institute of Technology in rural Tamil Nadu.

Truly enlightened by how much these super smart young adults know about AI and Machine Learning.

The mind boggles when a 19 year old student is showcasing their expertise in AI Computer Vision.

Truly humbled by their passion, knowledge and a huge thank you for the lovely hospitality.

Excited about the AI future with brains like these in Tamil Nadu.

I am not an economist.
I am not a politician.
But I know small business.

And Rachel Reeves Budget misses the mark on so many levels.

Of course it could have been a lot lot worse, but where are the incentives to grow.

"Kick Start Economic Growth" was the pledge of the incoming government.
More like a "Kick Start Economic Growth" down the road. 

Zero imagination.
Minimal support for SME's, the backbone of the UK economy.

A Missed Opportunity To Help the UK Grow......

I think these politicians are living in a parallel universe that is completely disconnected with reality.

And to top it all, I even voted for them. The best of a bad bunch at the time (Sorry).

Disappointing on so many levels and painful for many SME's across the UK. I also feel for the younger population, what hope do they have with a government like this in charge of our economy.

The only thing we can do is get that suit on, brush our hair, push harder, smile and focus on what we can control.

Stiff upper lip old chap!

Day 1  - Alex's and Arun's whistle stop tour of Mumbai.
India - last quarter growth rate 8.2% (yes, you read that right!)

Construction everywhere.
Packed flights.
Palpable energy.

Next stop, my AI team in Coimbatore, that's in the state of Tamil Nadu. 

Last year, this state's growth rate was a very impressive 11.2 %, way surpassing the country's high average.

These numbers are mind boggling, but you will see why when you visit India.

Oh yes, did I forget to tell you, we are eating way too much !
