NightstaRx is a Syncona backed company established to pursue the gene therapy treatment of Choroideremia to prevent the deterioration of eyesight in patients with this X-linked disease which causes loss of sight during the mid 40-50 years of life. Early clinical studies by Robert MacLaren have shown promising efficacy and good safety. The therapy for this indication is to replace the faulty REP1 gene in the eye with a functioning copy in an AAV vector. NightstaRx aims to gain regulatory approval for this therapy with ensuring GMP of the product and agreeing the pivotal clinical path. Www.nightstarx.co.uk

Syntaxin was a successful biotech spun out of the HPA that was developed by myself and my management team, with the help if course of our excellent scientists, to a stage for acquisition to ensure the further investment in the recombinant botulinum toxin technology. Ipsen acquired Syntaxin in July 2013 and the site continues as Ipsen's centre for toxin engineering, complementing well the Ipsen expertise in toxin biology. I left Syntaxin with the acquisition and now work through Think10 as I discuss new opportunities.

My school report cards always read that I had a flair for Science, and a natural ability for problem solving but I was easily distracted, I was always sitting next to the teacher for being too talkative and I hated the idea of anyone struggling when I knew I could help.

Throughout my life this hasn't changed. I had an early career in Sales and Marketing but my passion for science meant that it was never enough.  I wanted to know more about the world, and how I could help people through understanding scientific developments.  I achieved a MSc in Chemistry while being a single parent of three young girls and I am incredibly proud of the example that I have shown them that anything is possible. Having had a strong interest in the physical side of medicine and clinical trials I then studied Nursing.

I am a results driven person, competitive and ambitious. Recruitment has meant that I can bring my passion for supporting people, the curiosity for working within science, and using my communication skills to bring everything together.
