The therapy for this indication is to replace the faulty REP1 gene in the eye with a functioning copy in an AAV vector. Seconded full-time from Janssen to the Department of Health in England to drive change in the NHS through the implementation of Sir David Nicholson's 'Innovation, Health & Wealth Report'. Published in December 2011, the Report outlined the plan to improve both efficiency & the uptake of innovation in the NHS.
My areas of focus included improving the adoption of NICE recommendations, local formularies, the new NHS structure, the NHS Commissioning Board, transformation of wheelchair services, patient safety and financial incentives in the NHS. 
I was deeply involved in the design of the NICE Implementation Collaborative (NIC), a new organisation tasked with removing barriers which impede the implementation of NICE recommendations. The NIC was launched at NHS Expo in March 2013.

Manager - Innovation, Health & Wealth Team (secondment)

This was a 50:50 UK and EMEA regional role with dual-reporting.

I led the UK medical affairs & medical education strategies for a biologic therapy for psoriasis (ustekinumab), managing an award-winning team consisting of a Medical Adviser, Scientific Adviser, Medical Science Liaison Manager (MSL) and a Medical Education Manager (MEM). 

I am a Code of Practice signatory for marketing materials, with experience up to appeal board level.

The key component of my EMEA role was as Study Physician for a large pan-European phase 4 clinical trial in psoriasis across 20 countries. I developed this from idea to study concept to fully recruited trial, with data presented at international congresses. I was the medical monitor, and gained experience of study design, data analysis, pharmacovigilance, publication management, GCP, ethical and regulatory issues related to trials, as well as of leading an international matrix team and partnering with CROs.

I was a member of the EMEA core medical team, working with local and global teams to craft the regional strategy for psoriasis and pipeline indications in gastroenterology (Crohn's disease) and rheumatology (psoriatic arthritis).
