I have gone through many tough times in my life.

Being laid off twice was one of one the most challenging.

Rejections, silence, self-doubt… it can take a toll. 

During those moments, these are 8 reminders I kept close:

➡️ There is always something to be grateful for.

➡️ Other people’s opinions aren’t worth your energy.

➡️ Every interview, rejection, or pause is a learning experience.

➡️ Everything can, and will, change. One opportunity can shift everything.

➡️ You’ve overcome challenges before. This process doesn’t define your worth.

➡️ Not getting the role you wanted may be redirecting you to something better.

➡️ It’s okay to step back, breathe, and allow yourself small moments of joy.

➡️ Being kind to yourself matters as this journey is already hard enough.

To anyone currently job searching: keep going. 

Your effort counts, even on the days it doesn’t feel like it. ❤️

I’ve failed many, many times in my career.

The kind that makes you question your judgment and sometimes your worth.

> I’ve taken roles that didn’t work out.
> Trusted people who disappointed me.
> Built things that didn’t scale the way I hoped.
> Missed opportunities I can clearly see in hindsight.
> Stayed at a company too long as I was afraid of starting over.

For a long time, I thought failure meant I was doing something wrong.

Now I see it differently.

Every failure sharpened my instincts.

Every setback forced me to get clearer about what I won’t tolerate.

Every “no” pushed me closer to work that actually fits who I am.

Success didn’t come from avoiding failure.

I was in charge of the Disposition Team--a cross functional team focused on reducing large-scale scrap events. Over 3  years, using Lean Six Sigma methods, we were able to reduce the cost of large-scale scrap by 70%. This huge improvement was possible because we worked together as a team, we ignored office politics (as much as humanly possible), and focused instead on getting the facts and finding and confirming the true-root cause of each problem. Once that was done, it was relatively easy to fix these problems using a simple task list and good follow-up. It was satisfying work and I enjoyed it very much. By the way, we reduced typical meeting time from 2+ hours per day down to a pleasant 30-45 minutes.

Because of my experience, I was hired to help the Quality Manager get ready for the ISO-9001 Quality Management System (QMS) audit. During that year, I put in an ISO-compliant document control system, improved the quality of the work instructions, and reduced quality errors by 50%. I also revamped the Material Safety Data Sheets system for immediate access, and reduced the time it took to issue job cards from weeks to one day.

I used the company's TS-16949-oriented quality management system to build on the company's reputation for quality. As this was a new division, I also wrote and submitted an OSHA compliant safety manual and started systems to control daily fork-lift and crane inspections.

Working closely with leadership from Production and Sales, we created an ISO-9001 quality management system from scratch. This allowed our company to serve customers all over the world. I did safety and quality orientation training. I also supervised incoming, in-process and final inspectors. I performed more than 30 internal quality audits and oversaw all external audits. Of course, this sometimes included documenting all corrective and preventive actions. We also created a STAR safety management system and earned 6 consecutive Gold safety awards.  I serviced on the STAR-executive board for 5 years and had the pleasure of bench marking companies all over North Carolina.

I am a Lean Six Sigma Certified Black Belt with years of experience solving tough problems using Lean techniques, systems thinking and common sense. My super power is my willingness to GO AND SEE. Career highlights include:

* Reducing the cost of large-scale events by 70% over 3 years at a Tier 2 automotive supplier. This saved the company hundreds of thousands of dollars. 
 
* At another automotive supplier, I created an ISO-9001-compliant quality management system (QMS) that allowed us to do business on an international scale. Because of the certification, we were able to sell to companies who were literally on the other side of the world. 

* At another company, I led an effort to rewrite work instruction and changed how we used them. We reduced production errors by 50% in 2 months. 

* I am currently working on a non-fiction book called "The Preferred Method: Creating Management Systems that Work." Imagine if every manager and supervisor at your company was a master of the essential people and problem-solving skills.
