You’re not “just being realistic” - you’re rehearsing a reality that might not ever be real. 

Worrying, ruminating, trying to plan for every worst-case scenario… that all FEELS safe and productive. But doing it too much will exhaust you and hold you back. 

So make a plan for if everything goes wrong, then put it away.

Then ask yourself, “what if it all works out?”

You can’t argue with that question. 

Because just like you have no proof that everything will work out, you have no proof that it won’t.

So while you’re rehearsing for futures where it all goes wrong, rehearse for the ones where it all goes right.

There’s something about your unique DNA, your inner compass, your soul, that pulls you towards your dream.

Your dream is personal. It’s not meant to make sense to anyone else.

So if other people’s opinions are currently holding you back from pursuing the thing you’ve always wanted to pursue, the most important thing you can do is Let Them.

Let Them judge you.
Let Them misunderstand you.
Let Them worry that it might not work out.

“Let Me walk in the direction of things that call to me.”

As the stuff on your end-of-year to-do list starts piling up, here’s a little reminder if you’re sitting there stressing about the week ahead:

Don’t waste your precious Sundays worrying about Mondays.

The end of the year has a way of turning into a sprint - getting ahead at work, travel, schedules, managing family dynamics, cooking for the holidays, and the pressure to be “on.”

It’s easy to slip into a spiral right now.

But while you can’t control what’s coming this week, you CAN control how you show up for it and how you spend this moment.

Maybe that means closing the laptop a little earlier tonight, getting outside for a walk, or just letting yourself enjoy your night without having your mind think about holiday chaos.

Or maybe it means making tomorrow morning easier by picking out your clothes, prepping your lunch, or taking 5 minutes to write a to-do list - so you’re starting Monday organized and grounded.

Monday - and the pressure cooker that is the holiday season - will come no matter what. And you can decide to arrive resentful that you spent your Sunday worrying about the week, or glad you spent it taking care of yourself in whatever way you needed to.

When Dr. Karl Pillemer interviewed thousands of people in their 80s, 90s, and 100s, he asked them what they regret most about their lives.

Their answer wasn’t the mistakes they made.

It was the chances they didn’t take.
The job they talked themselves out of.
The move they were too scared to make.
The idea they kept saying they’d get to “someday.”

And here’s the wild part:
These are people who lived through the Depression, scarcity, and real risk - yet they STILL say their biggest mistakes were the things they didn’t say yes to.

So if an opportunity is sitting in front of you right now, and your only hesitation is fear or uncertainty?

Their advice is simple:

Unless you have a really strong reason to say no… say yes.

Future-you will thank you for it.

This is the career advice 80, 90, and even 100-year-olds want you to know NOW:

It comes from thousands of people in their 80s, 90s, and 100s who were interviewed by Cornell University professor Dr. Karl Pillemer about the biggest lessons of their lives:

1. A job you love is worth more than any salary.

At the end of your life, you won’t say, “I wish I’d chased a bigger paycheck.”
Doing anything just for the money will cost you. You’ll regret the years you spent in jobs that made you miserable. 

Money matters, for sure. But once your basic needs are met, meaning and fulfillment matter way more.

2. Say yes to opportunities.

Your biggest regrets won’t be about what you did. 

They’ll be about what you didn’t do.

The chances you never took, the cool role you turned down, the move you were scared to make, the idea you never tried.  

Unless you have a strong reason to say no, say yes and just go for it.

And remember: this advice is coming from a generation that…

Lived through the Depression Era and understands financial hardship and scarcity…

Stayed in one job or at one company for most of their careers…

…and they STILL say no amount of money is worth toiling away at something you don’t enjoy.

So here’s your nudge from future-you:

You’re gonna spend so much of your life at work. 
You owe it to yourself to enjoy it.
