- If you use AI to write, why are you scared to say it?
- What about using AI makes you feel like less of a writer? 

I've been thinking a lot about how, when, and why we use AI to write, and I keep coming back to a few messy thoughts:

For a long time, storytellers were orating information and, later, that information was written. But a huge part of our craft has to do with the struggle of it. Thinking of an idea, battling with it, writing it, throwing it out, trying again from a new angle, throwing that out, attempting again, throwing that out. Our trash cans were full and our hands were hurting but by god, we were writing.

And that was for the creatives.

(P.S. this is messy. This is what one part of the writing process looks like. In this post, I'm brainstorming. I'm dropping all my messy weirdness to see if I can make a point and to figure out what that point is. Normally, this would live in a notebook or a Google Doc or a diary (RIP), but is it necessary? You tell me.)

When we started writing for corporations, we exchanged our notebooks for desktops and started "researching" to get to the idea. In some cases, the ideas were already there, we just had to turn them into language. So the job of the writer, then, was more about framing ideas into words.  

And now, a lot of us are using AI to do the framing and the writing. So if we outsource all of it, what makes a writer a writer?

Is it the messy middle that we're after, or the output? Are we looking for engagement or "authenticity"?

If you looked at the AI-output (in comments below), do you prefer it? Could you even tell?

This isn't really formed, but I'm super curious.
