BREAKING: OpenAI just announced ChatGPT Health. 

This is so exciting on so many levels, though it probably just ruined every patient facing chat bot startup. 

However, most interesting to me is that this can be the beginning of the end of the EHRs death grip over patient data!!

Think about it, everyone has pontificated about why the EHR owns your data and you have to beg to access it, even though it should be the other way around, you should own your data and you should allow access to a healthcare system or provider. 

The answer is that up until now, there was simply no incentive for patients to care enough to aggregate their data. 

However, with a tool like this, individual patients will be highly incentivized to maintain their health records in ChatGPT Health so that it always has an accurate picture of them. 

Perhaps ChatGPT will even build integrations with Epic and the other EMRs. 

Then, startups and other digital health companies can build integrations with ChatGPT and Epic and all the EHRs will take a backseat.

Is this actually a big deal or just click bait? 

All the headlines across my X and LinkedIn feed are about how AI is now prescribing medications from this POLITICO article 

however, it seems to be only renewing standard medications that are typically renewed anyway with some basic frameworks. 

Am I missing something? or is this actually a massive deal?

"The program is limited to 190 commonly prescribed medications. Some medications — including pain management and ADHD drugs as well as injectables — are excluded for safety reasons."

Marty Makary M.D., M.P.H. is removing the red tape around the use of AI in decision support and wearable devices which previously had to be FDA approved. 

Pretty awesome. 

There is a common thread between EVERYTHING this admin is doing.

They are getting themselves out of regulating the process of care and keeping laser focused on incentivizing better outcomes. 

Pay for the thing that matters to the payor and let the free market optimize the best way to get there.
