Hey, I’m Kyle. I’ve spent the last 17 years building, scaling, failing, and winning in high-growth software. 

I’m currently serving the Jellyfish team as their CMO, and before joining the Jellyfish ‘bloom’, I had the pleasure of building a company called Lessonly. We employed over 230 people and changed the lives of many more after our acquisition. 

I’ve also been fortunate to lead teams at Seismic, OpenView, Salesforce, and ExactTarget. But most importantly, I’m the father to two wonderful boys, an energetic dog, and one too many books on World War II.

Your content marketing team should stop creating content that doesn’t include external voices. Period.

Most content practitioners are still living in a 2010 dreamland of distribution lists and nurture tracks. The world has changed. The way we buy has changed. The BUYER has changed! 

When I think about content marketing today, I bucket it into four pillars:

1. Market & External Comms – Shape market perception through strategic narrative and media.

2. Internal Comms & Advocacy – Keep teams aligned and turn employees into storytellers.

3. Executive Thought Leadership – Elevate exec voices and communities to build category leadership.

4. Benchmarking & Research – Establish authority with original data

External voices should run through all four of these. 

Here’s something you can literally do tomorrow:

Take your targeted account list, identify the people you want relationships with, and reach out:

“We’re publishing a research report on [topic]. We’d love to include your perspective. Can we grab 10 minutes and ask you two questions?”
Interview them. Ship the report. Feature their names, quotes, and stories.

I’ve done this multiple times, and the interviews often turned into large deals later, because when they are ready to buy, they remembered us. They remembered that we wanted their expertise, not a demo.

Everyone can ship an AI ebook in an afternoon. That’s noise. Your buyers are increasingly influenced by mini communities and peer groups, not your homepage.

Your customers are your best salespeople. And your community deserves to be included in your “thought leadership.”

Let your competitors crank out junk content at scale. You can go talk to the humans. They’re the ones making the buying decisions.
