Here is what I have learned in all my years working in marketing: If one thing can make your brand more relatable to other humans, it's telling stories.

Hi, my name is Michael, and I am on a journey to help others make their marketing more human by telling authentic stories that help solve problems and inspire humans to connect with them.

This came after a nearly 20-year-long career with one of the largest recruitment companies in the world, where I held several marketing leadership roles.

After that, I ran my own solopreneur business for two years before I joined a Fintech company to run their Global Brands and Comms department.

I am now fortunate to work for Randstad Sourceright, the world's leading partner for talent, where I help our clients to develop  recruitment marketing strategies that connect them with the best talent in their industries.

Over the years, I lived in Switzerland and Australia before moving back to my hometown, Hamburg, where I enjoy time with friends and my daughter, a good game of football, or reading a great book.

Probably the most important thing that I learned here was about customer service and above all else how to anticipate the needs of others.

This was my first role in legal services and also the first job that I secured after moving back to the UK in 2007.

During my time as a legal secretary I felt excited and challenged by the subject matter of the work that I was doing.  It was during this time that I realised that a career in law truly was for me and that I should make a go of becoming a qualified solicitor.

When I was aged 3, I told my mother that I wanted to meet every person in the world.  

She gently informed me that this was not going to happen and I remember the feeling of distress and bitter disappointment I had that there would be some people in the world that I would never meet.  

This is one of my earliest memories.

By the time I was aged 5, my future plans had evolved.  I wanted to be a farmer.

When I would announce my ambitions to any 'big grown ups', usually my parents' friends, they would always say, 'but don't you mean that you want to be a farmer's wife?'

In response I would cross my arms, stamp my feet and say NO!  I want to be a FARMER!

Without the vocabulary or fully formed prefrontal cortex I was unable to express myself - but I knew that what they were telling me was wrong.

As a naturally curious child I grew up always asking 'why?' - and I've never grown out of that.

By the age of 8 my family called me the 'Big Negotiator' because I had discovered that by simply asking why you could get quite a lot of information that would allow you to challenge authority,(in this case my parents),  and improve your situation (usually an ice cream for pudding rather than fruit!).

The desire to meet everyone in the world, a natural sense of justice, the curiosity to ask why and the ability to challenge authority were gifts that I believe I was more or less born with.

It is with these gifts that I seek to make a positive impact in the world.
