Das hat mich so wütend gemacht, dass ich wieder zurück aufs Parkett bin.
Mit einem kleinen Killerteam, das Ads baut, die knallen, merken, verkaufen.
AI-first (weil geht!). Street-built. Keine Angst vorm Risiko, keine Liebe für Laubbläser-Marketing.

wir machen wieder Werbung, die Leuten was fühlen lässt und Brands was bringt.
Keine 20%-für-immer-Todgeboxt-Tragödien.
Keine Fake-Strategie mit Stock-Footage und Hoffnungen.

Als ich 2006 ein Jahr in Boston studiert habe, hatte ich schnell gemerkt, dass der Dealer vor der Tür mehr Business verstanden hat als die Hälfte der “Future Leaders” im Raum.

Ich hatte 2013 mein eigenes Startup gegründet und verkauft, bevor ich überhaupt wusste, wie man vernünftig atmet. Danach bin ich direkt in den Agenturwahnsinn reingestolpert.
Eine Branche, in der man, und besonders ich nicht sonderlich gemocht wird, außer von den aktuellen Brands mit denen man arbeitet. Bis zu dem Punkt, wo man das eben nicht mehr tut.
Ist wie Dating, nur mit größeren Budgets und schlechteren Entscheidungen.

Ich hab trotzdem weitergemacht.
Weil es mir Spaß macht, Probleme zu lösen, bei denen andere Burnout kriegen.
Weil ich Herausforderungen mag.
Und weil ich schon immer besser darin war, Chaos zu ordnen als Harmonie zu feiern.

Ich hab an spannenden Fast Growth Brands wie Asambeauty, ARMEDANGELS, Pomelo & Co., Oatsome, Reishunger, Beyer & Söhne, Shape Republic, No Cosmetics  gearbeitet und ja, ich bin mehrfach voll auf die Fresse geflogen. Nicht weil alles schlecht war, sondern weil der Markt dachte, 20%-Codes wären eine Wachstumsstrategie (UND DAS IMMER NOCH GLAUBT).

Heute hab ich keinen Bock mehr auf Rabattleichen und Marketing-Zombie-Modus.
Jetzt mach ich Arbeit, die lebt.
Mit Leuten, die das Gleiche wollen.

und arbeitet heute vom Knast aus

November 2018.
Wir standen vor einem der
wichtigsten Pitches unserer Karriere.

Nächster Tag Flug von Berlin nach Köln war gebucht.

Ich hatte die Präsentation vorbereitet und Oli,
mein Co-Founder und damaliger CD, sollte aus
Hamburg nach Berlin fahren.

Seine letzte Slack-Nachricht:
„Bruder Hab geile Ideen, schicke dir die gleich.
Muss nur kurz einkaufen.“

Und ja, was soll ich sagen:
Er war auf einmal weg.

Kein Anruf.
Keine Nachricht.
Kein Lebenszeichen.

Ich habe mir extrem Sorgen gemacht,
weil der wichtigste Mann für den Pitch fehlte.

Aber ich wollte auch nicht nerven weil Oli so ein Freigeist ist den man mal lässt wenn er freiraum braucht. Mein persönlicher Dennis Rodman.

Man kann es so vergleichen:

Als würde Real Madrid im Champions League
Finale auf Ronaldo in seiner Prime verzichten müssen.

Um 19 Uhr klingelte das Telefon im Office.

Eine Mitarbeiterin (Nour Bektas) ging ran:
„Chris, der Anruf ist für dich.“

Ich nehme ab.
„Herr Iff, kennen Sie einen Herrn Kircher?“
„Ja.“
„Der kommt jetzt erstmal für eine Zeit nicht mehr.“
„Warum?“
„Er hat ein paar Probleme.“

Erst später habe ich erfahren,
dass Oli vom SEK im Reformhaus hops genommen wurde.

Und ab diesem Tag habe ich ihn 3 Jahre
lang nicht gehört und gesehen - außer per Brief.

Am Ende wurde er zu 10,5 Jahren verurteilt.

Heute, Jahre später, ist Oli im offenen Vollzug.
Und er arbeitet wieder zu 100 % mit mir.

Warum?
Weil er eine zweite Chance verdient hat und mit
Abstand der beste Kreative ist, den ich jemals
kennengelernt habe. 

Wie hat Jesus schon gesagt: Wer von euch ohne Sünde ist, werfe als Erster einen Stein. 

Ab 2021 habe ich Oli Kampagnen per Post
gebrieft und bekam starke Ideen per Post zurück.

Seit 2023 sind wir wieder jeden Tag zusammen
im Büro - denn gute Führung bedeutet: offener Vollzug & mehr coole Kampagnen für uns.

Für mich war diese Zeit eine Prüfung meiner eigenen Loyalität und Führung. Nicht seiner Vergangenheit.

Diese Nachricht bekomme ich mittlerweile 2–3 Mal die Woche.
Von früheren Angestellten, CMOs, Gründern.
Leute, die ich seit 15 Jahren kenne.

Ich mag niemanden belehren.
Ich erhebe mich nicht über Sorgen.
Aber ich hab’s euch gesagt.

2018 ging der kollektive Realitätsverlust los.
Alle taten so, als wäre Marketing = Ads.
Als wäre Kommunikation der ganze Job.
Mir wurde damals schon schlecht vom Zusehen.

Top 3 Mantras aus meiner alten Agentur:
	1.	Leute kaufen nur noch mit Rabattcodes
	2.	Testen, testen, testen
	3.	CI interessiert keinen – was verkauft, wird skaliert

Branding? Uncool.
Distinctive Assets? „Boah Chris, komm.“
Kampagnen, die länger laufen als zwei Wochen?
Kompletter Wahnsinn.

Ich wurde behandelt wie ein Dinosaurier.
Und jetzt?
Genau deswegen brennt’s überall.

Post-Covid hat den Nebel gelüftet.
Der Markt ist wieder normal.
Und viele sehen plötzlich, was fehlt.

Warum hat KitKat das fetteste Branding der Welt?
Weil „Have a break, have a KitKat“ seit Ewigkeiten existiert.
Weil jeder weiß, wie das Produkt aussieht.
Weil alles um „Pause“ gebaut ist.

Airbnb?
Cartoon-Style, seit Jahren.
Instant erkennbar.

Snickers?
„Du bist nicht du, wenn du hungrig bist.“
Kultstatus.

Coca-Cola?
Jedes Jahr derselbe verdammte Weihnachtsspot.
Nicht wegen Budget.
Nicht aus kreativer Müdigkeit.
Sondern weil es funktioniert.
Jeder weiß: COLA. Punkt.

Große Marken wiederholen ihre Wahrheit bis zur Psychose.
Das ist Absicht.
Das ist System.
Das ist Marketing.

Kleine Marken haben nur ein echtes Vorteilspaket:
Spitze Positionierung.
Und eine klare Anti-Positionierung zur Konkurrenz.

Und wenn ihr ein gutes Produkt habt, fair priced, dann bitte:
Sagt immer wieder das Gleiche.
Immer.
Immer.
Immer.
Auch wenn der ROAS fünf Tage lang rumzickt.
Auch wenn irgendeine KPI schlechte Laune hat.

Nicht sofort alles ausschalten.
Nicht ständig neue Angles.
Nicht jeden Tag neue Ads.

Weitermachen.
Konstanz & klare Positionierung ist die unfair advantage.

Mir fehlt heute völlig die Motivation durchzuziehen. Aber weil ich ein Macher bin und man nur mit Konstanz und sich durchquälen erfolgreich wird mach ich jetzt trotzdem vollgas.

Nein.
Es sprudelt nicht so wie es soll, vielleicht fällt gerade dieser Black Week Wahnsinn von mir ab,obwohl es ja heute eigentlich losgeht, wobei die meisten ja schon seit August gefühlt Early Access machen.

Also was mach ich jetzt?
1. Ich lese ding dong. Kein Spaß. Spannendes Buch von Jamie Siminoff, Founder von ring.

2. Ich kommentiere wieder ein bisschen bei euch rum. Weil macht spaß!

3. Ich bau bisschen Lego und denk dabei nach. Mein 6 jähriger Sohn hat mich angesteckt

4. Dann ruf ich den Typen auf dem Bild an, der nicht nur immer auf beschäftigt tut und deswegen maximal "nervbar" ist sondern auch bester Freund + starker CSO. 

5. Dann gehe ich spazieren und schau ob die Ideen beim Laufen ohne LinkedIn, Handy, Beschallung zurückkommen.

6. Beste Kampagne aller Zeiten aufschreiben falls ich nicht bis nach Hause wieder alles vergessen habe.

Gedankengang dahinter ist sich selbst gut zu kennen. Wann performe ich am besten, wann kann ich abliefern, MUSS ich jetzt gerade unter Strom sein und abliefern? Falls nein, was soll der blödsinn eigentlich...in 100 Jahren interessierts niemanden mehr.

Die meisten Perfomance Marketer verstehen Werbung & Markenwachstum nicht wirklich. Deshalb hier meine Liste. 20 Werbe-Grundsätze, die jeder bei OG&Co. verstehen muss:

1 Niemand interessiert sich für deine Marke oder Werbung
2 Wachstum passiert durch neue Kunden, nicht durch Retention
3 Eine Ad hat 3 Sekunden, sonst bist du tot.
4 Reichweite ist König. Cleverness ist Deko.
5 Emotion schlägt Fakten, USP und alle Marketing-Buzzwords.
6 Niemand weiß, was funktioniert. Hör auf, Prophet spielen zu wollen.
7 Werbung, die niemand nervt, schafft es auch nicht in Köpfe.
8 Unterhaltungswert ist Pflicht, nicht Stilmittel.
9 Harmlosigkeit ist die teuerste Form der Ineffektivität.
10 Frequenz baut Wirkung, nicht Genialität.
11 Eine starke Kampagne schlägt 5 verschiedene winning Ads mit unterschiedlichen Looks.
12 Konsistenz schafft Marken. Rebranding tötet sie.
13 Marken entstehen nicht durch clevere neue Ad Angles, sondern durch Wiedererkennbarkeit.
14 Die Konkurrenz studiert man nicht zum Kopieren, sondern zum Gegenteil tun.
15 Short-Form ist kein Add-on. Es ist der Ort, an dem du existierst oder verschwindest.
16 Creator sind keine Tools, sondern Kulturträger. Nutze das.
17 Niemand schuldet dir Aufmerksamkeit. Du musst sie dir erkämpfen.
18 Wenn es sich zu safe anfühlt, ist es bereits zu spät.
19 Werbung ist kein Kunstprojekt. Aber sie kann sich so anfühlen, wenn man es richtig macht.
20. Testing des Testing wegen ist nicht smart sondern eine Arbeitsbeschaffungsmaßnahme. don´t do it!

Bessere Werbung oder verschiedene Angles werden dir keine großen Sprünge oder gar Marktanteile geben. Und das sag ich dir obwohl mein Bruder Oli und ich Werbung machen die ballert.

Marken wachsen nicht, weil irgendwer die große Erleuchtung hatte, sondern weil draußen irgendwas eskaliert und den Markt ins Wanken bringt.

Wenn so ein Moment kommt, ist Marketing dran: Momentum greifen, Druck machen, Präsenz zeigen. Bleibt alles ruhig, kein Drama, keine Unruhe, dann geht’s schlicht darum, stabil zu bleiben und nicht unter dem Niveau deiner Kategorie wegzurutschen.

Am Ende gibt’s nur zwei echte Moves:
Chaos reiten oder solide stehen.

Wo ich sofort am abwinken bin:
Die Leute feiern Geschichten, die ihnen einreden, sie hätten alles selbst unter Kontrolle. Für solche Träume zahlen sie sogar einen Haufen Geld.
Deshalb rennen ständig neue Marketing-Propheten herum, die behaupten, sie hätten das geheimste aller Geheimnisse, wie Marken wirklich groß werden.

Aber frag sie mal, welche Marke damit wirklich Marktanteile gerissen hat. Da kommt… nichts. Wenn deren Zauberformeln wirklich funktionieren würden, hätten wir nach zwanzig Jahren eine ganze Armee von Marken, die durch diese Regeln nach oben geschossen sind.

Aber was passiert?
Nada. Und genau da sollte man anfangen zu überlegen, warum das so ist.
Weil die Realität nun mal kein Märchen erzählt.
Draußen wird’s hart, unromantisch und ziemlich egal, welche „magischen Regeln“ irgendwer verkauft.

Deswegen ist die Wahl der Branche in der du startest und ob sie wächst deutlich wichtiger als deine Ads. 

Ads sind im Marketing das unwichtigste. Und wir machen selbst nur Ads. Got it?

Wenn deine Creatives gerade nicht funktionieren, hab ich kein Framework für dich. Kein Template. Kein „mach einfach A/B-Testing und glaub an dich“.
Ich hab nur die Gedanken, die mich letzte Nacht wach gehalten haben.

Manchmal stirbt eine Idee nicht, weil sie schlecht war, sondern weil der Algorithmus Hunger hatte und du der Snack warst.

Manchmal gewinnt eine beschissene Konkurrenzkampagne gegen deine beste Arbeit, weil Timing ein Arschloch ist und Aufmerksamkeit ein Glücksspiel bleibt.

Manchmal ist dein CEP und Angle messerscharf, aber deine Zielgruppe scrollt gerade aus Prinzip an allem vorbei.

Manchmal hast du einen Insight, der so gut ist, dass du glaubst, die Erde müsste kurz rotieren – und dann merkt niemand etwas.

Manchmal baust du eine Kampagne so sauber, dass sie im Deck göttlich aussieht, im Markt aber fällt wie ein Ikea-Regal ohne Schraube 47.

Manchmal zerstören drei schlechte Kommentare mehr Selbstvertrauen
als drei Monate gute Ergebnisse aufbauen.

Manchmal fragst du dich, ob du einfach nur Pech hast, oder ob Marketing ein Beruf ist, bei dem man permanent zu spät zur eigenen Party kommt.

Und manchmal, ganz manchmal, fühlst du dich wie das missverstandene Genie,
das zu früh geliefert hat für ein Publikum,das noch nicht mal bereit war,
den Kopf zu heben.

Aber hier kommt der Teil, der mich nicht schlafen lässt und gleichzeitig dafür sorgt, dass ich morgens trotzdem weitermache:

Gute Ideen verlieren oft zuerst.
Schlechte Ideen gewinnen oft sofort.
Weil Märkte träge sind.
Menschen bequem.
Reichweite unfair verteilt.
Und Glück nie da ist,
wenn man es reserviert hat.

Aber:
Ideen, die verlieren, sind oft die, die bleiben.
Ideen, die scheitern, sind oft die, die später Kult werden.
Ideen, die keiner kapiert, sind manchmal die, für die man in zwei Jahren gefeiert wird.

Das ist der Struggle:
Du weißt nie, ob du gerade einen Fehler gebaut hast oder Geschichte.
Beides sieht auf dem Timeline-Chart gleich aus.
Und wenn du jetzt da sitzt
und deine Kampagne implodiert ist,
dann weißt du wenigstens eins:
Du versuchst Dinge,
die andere nicht mal denken.
Du machst Arbeit, die Risiko hat.
Du gehst Wege, für die es keine Slides gibt.
Fehlschläge sind nicht das Gegenteil von Erfolg.
Sie sind nur der Preis dafür, dass du was probierst, das Potenzial hat zu gewinnen.

Und das reicht manchmal, um weiterzumachen.
Zumindest bis morgen.
