The Trust's homegrown legacy system Insight is being replaced by the Rio Inpatient and Community EPR system.

Rio EPR Communications and Training Lead

FINALIST: Health Tech Awards 2022 for Staff Engagement and Communication at EEAST ePCR project

The Engagement and Training Lead accountable for re-engaging frontline staff and developing an agile dual training strategy and implementation for both hardware and software for the East of England Ambulance Trust (EEAST)

The Trust’s existing electronic patient care record (ePCR) system had been in place since 2009 and would not address the future needs of the service. In addition, laptops heavily used by staff needed a refresh. Whilst the ePCR software contract was ending, it was uneconomical to maintain the existing laptops. 

Engagement

- Developed multi-channel staff engagement strategy for Programme Board approval.
- Updated Programme Board presentations.
- Pioneered Live Q&A at the Trust.
- Utilised multiple engagement channels, including a series of digital bulletins 'Change is Good', virtual Q&A sessions, in-person events and social media groups.
- Wrote targeted communications for different end user groups and regions. 
- Created mixed media assets to support other communication channels.

- Implemented a blended training programme for staff during the COVID-19 pandemic through virtual and online training. Used gamification to develop advanced software training for clinicians.

Legacy 
BAU has seen the Trust reach their highest ePCR compliance rates. February 2023 saw an overall 91% compliance with each of the six regions now hitting 90% or above.

• Proramme Manager consultant for St Vincent’s key healthcare client, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL). UHL, St Vincent’s and Nervecentre Software are within a unique EPR development partnership.

• Effectively working alongside the Programme Director was responsible for assembling a team of SMEs - project managers, business analysts, solution architects, configuration lead, testers, trainers, project support officers - to support the mobilisation and implementation of one of the most significant NHS EPR programmes in years. UHL have never implemented a EPR prior and are operating on a 25-30 year old legacy PAS system. 

•Oversaw and led all EPR programme workstreams covering PAS, Outpatients, Order Comms, EPMA, Clinical Documentation, Device integration, Business Continuity, GP Paper Removal, Environment Management. 

• Developed a positive, collaborative and effective relationship with Nervecentre from CEO to Programme/PMO Manager to Service Delivery Manager to Project Manager(s) to Configuration SMEs.

• The first St Vincent’s consultant to deliver a project on the UHL EPR programme (SNOMED). Achieved working uniquely as both Programme and Project Manager for 8 weeks due to a resource constraint elsewhere on the EPR programme.

A short term departure from Healthcare IT to provide project and programme management consultancy for Egress and support the rollout of the HCM and Payroll worksteams of key Egress' customer, Lancashire County Council (LCC).

LCC implemented Oracle Fusion early December 2022 as a replacement for Oracle R12 which functions the business work streams of HCM, Payroll, Finance and Supply Chain Management.

• Senior Project Manager for a multimillion pound Electronic Patient Care Record (ePCR) replacement programme for East of England Ambulance Service. A iOS based emergency service implementation replacing the trust’s legacy Windows version. A national / global first implementation of a newly developed native iOS clinical app for accessing and creating patient records, not only for the NHS Ambulance Service but the client base of the supplier, ESO.

• Project managed the following: 
- The implementation of the iOS product, Siren Nova via 6 regional phased rollouts. All underpinned from key clinical and configuration workshops ran earlier in the programme lifecycle. Worked with the supplier project manager to ensure delivery remained on track and supplier held to account.
- The Output Based Specification (OBS). Managed trust and supplier clinical reviews, harnessing delivery focus of the contract and ensuring the supplier delivered the functionality expectations of said contract. 
- The migration of legacy Windows and new iOS patient data from the trust’s on-premise and supplier’s data centres into EEAST’s MS Azure solution so to support enriched BI and reporting.
- The integration of a trust integration engine (TIE) to handle Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) 999 calls moving EEAST away on the reliance of existing third party CAD interfaces.
- The implementation of patient inbound dashboard across the regional acute hospitals followed by out of area acute sites which EEAST served. 
• As a programme team implemented to initial project timescales with budget underspend of 25% during Covid pandemic.

The programme team concluded their time at East of England Ambulance Service 30th June which followed with a 2-month planned break with my family.

Senior Project Manager / Delivery Consultant - ePCR Digital Transformation (Contract)

Channel 3 Consulting

• Programme Manager for a multimillion pound Electronic Patient Record (EPR)  partnership between Chanel 3 Consulting and Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (DHCFT). The EPR partnership supported the mental health setting for the whole of county Derbyshire, utiliising Channel 3’s expert knowledge and experience in implementing TPP’s SystmOne product.

• Responsible for driving through the mobilisation phase for sign off and then setting up an agile implementation phase of a four phased EPR delivery covering all DHCFT mental health services plus TPP’s SystmOne electronic prescribing solution (EPMA).

• Established and overlooked blended project workstream structures and project reporting / delivery rigors for all project workstream leads and their teams. The workstreams covered clinical and operational business change, system configuration, data migration, data warehousing, financial reporting, training and communication. 

Successfully took delivery through mobilisation, sign off and into implementation phase readiness.

Programme Manager - EPR Digital Transformation (Contract)

Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

• Programme Manager for the EPR implementation of Intersystem's TrackCare covering a three NHS trust partnership which will serve over half the patient geography of the city of Liverpool.

• Aintree University Hospital, Royal Liverpool and 
Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust (GDE - Global Digital Exemplar) and Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust make up the partnership and will be implementing Intersystems’ TrackCare EPR across a phased timeline.

Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust

• Programme Manager for the implementation of Rio, a cloud based mental health clinical system replacement that will support the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) programme partnership of Dudley and Walsall and Black Country Mental Health and Community NHS trusts. 

• A politically heavy and challenging multi million pound programme taking in the vested interests and agendas of two sets of partnering trust executives covering a vast patient demographic of the West Midlands while remaining focused on a duty of care to DWMH my employing NHS trust. DWMH are the capital holder of the EPR programme implementation budget.

• Working through a tender process, procurement contract and the legal protections required in acquiring a service provider clinical system across two NHS organistions. 

• Building effective service provider relationships from director levels down to project manager down to implementation specialists and SMEs.

• Building a clearly defined governance structure reporting into SROs for both NHS partnering trusts. Assembling a robust and skilled programme implementation team. Establishing and planning programme delivery workstreams and strategies covering - business transformation, data migration, business intelligence, information governance, testing and training.
