Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

We're still doing the male mental health crisis all wrong. 

This weekend I listened to Maud Le Rest debate the state of male mental health and I kept hearing the same patterns I see every single week:

→ Men struggle to name their emotions.
→ Male friendships stay surface-level. They just don’t talk to each other.
→ Therapy and therapeutic tools are still coded as “feminine”.
→ Pop culture still celebrates the strong, silent, self-contained man.

The scale of the problem, and the urgency of building solutions that actually work for men has never been more important.

Men rarely seek help early. They wait until something breaks. And most of the time, the “breaking point” is their sexual function. And that, for me, is where the real urgency sits. 

Because while men are avoiding or postponing help:
→ loneliness is rising
→ adolescent distress is exploding. Boys are growing up with even fewer emotionally safe models than we’d like to believe.
→ the vacuum is being filled by masculinist content
→ and western mental health systems are failing : telling men to “talk” isn’t a solution when they don’t have options that they identify with.

Boys and men have never been given the tools or the spaces to actually help themselves. We keep offering support in formats they reject:
😬 too therapeutic
😬 too spiritual
😬 too soft
😬 too jargon-heavy

Even mental health products “for men” still look, sound, and feel like they were designed for women.

So yes, we need to act now. Because by the time they finally walk into a therapist’s office, they’re already in crisis (I’m repeating myself, but it’s important!).

We don’t need :
- more mental-health-washing.
- more pastel-coloured self-care slogans.
- more therapy repackaged as innovation.

We need tools men can actually swallow, tolerate, and pay attention to.
Tools that don’t shame them for how they’ve been socialised.
Spaces that feel natural, not clinical.
Solutions that meet men where they are. Not where we wish they were.

If we want healthier men and a healthier society, we have to redesign how support is offered.

And this is exactly how EDGE approaches the male mental health crisis:

→ sexuality is the first place where emotional disconnection becomes impossible to ignore.
→ the body speaks up long before the mind does.
→ men pay attention when their desire, their sexual function, or their relationship is affected.
→  if we want early intervention, we need to meet men at the doorway they actually walk through.

Sexual struggle isn’t the problem — it’s the signal.
Using that doorway is not a gimmick.
It’s the only way many men will ever enter the conversation.
