🧠 The Main Objective of this research is to identify key design and manufacturing trends in electric vehicle motors.

The goal was to understand how EV motors have evolved in efficiency, structure, materials, and production processes.

This was done using macroscopic (system-level) and microscopic (component-level) analysis of 48 motors from 31 electric vehicles.

🔎 Macroscopic View – System Level Trends

🏗️ Integrated Designs Are Winning
Modern EVs now use integrated motor + gearbox + power electronics.
Nearly 50% of the analyzed motors use this setup.

 ✅ Fewer parts, more compact, reduced cost, and weight.
⚡ Power Density is the New Benchmark
Power Density = Power output (kW) / weight (kg)

PMSMs (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) lead in performance.

But Induction Motors (IM) and Externally Excited Synchronous Machines (EESM) are catching up.

 📉 From 2018 to 2023, all topologies show higher power-per-kg trends.

🔬 Microscopic View – Component-Level Insights

🌀 Stator Design Matters

80%+ motors use press/shrink fit for stator-housing attachment.

Welded laminations are common but can cause eddy current losses.

Bonded and interlocked stacks are rising in use for better performance.

🔧 Winding Technologies

Flat wire tech = High fill factor, better cooling, more efficient.

Round wire = Easier to make, but heavier and bigger winding heads.

U-hairpin, I-pin, X-pin and Trim-cut pin designs optimize copper usage.

🧪 Why thinner wires and smaller windings?

High RPMs (now reaching 20,000+) increase eddy currents.

Smaller, segmented conductors reduce these losses.

Also improves copper efficiency — power per kg of copper has doubled.

📦 Material Efficiency is Key

Average stator weight reduced by 20–30% in five years.

Outer stator diameters getting smaller; inner diameters stable (for torque).

Copper usage is down, but performance per kg is way up.

🔚 Conclusion 

Electric motors in EVs are evolving fast and smart.

Modern designs focus on compactness, high power density, and efficient manufacturing.

PMSM motors still lead — but IM and EESM technologies are improving rapidly.

Design is now a balance between electrical performance, thermal control, material cost, and ease of manufacturing.

📉 Copper usage is optimized.

First, what is rare earth?
These are special magnetic materials.
Like neodymium and dysprosium.
They give high magnetic strength.
But prices are volatile.
Supply chains are concentrated globally.

They target a magnet free traction motor.
No rare earth magnets inside.

Rare earth magnets give high torque density.

Torque density means torque per volume.
More torque in less space.

Axial flux motors already achieve this.
They are compact and efficient.

Pros of axial flux motors:
High torque density.
Short axial length packaging.

Cons I see:
Heavy rare earth dependence.
Complex cooling and manufacturing.

Now comes SynRM.
Synchronous Reluctance Machine.

Torque from magnetic reluctance difference.

So what is AF-SynRM?

Axial flux synchronous reluctance motor.
It mixes both advantages.

Axial compactness plus magnet free design.

Radial SynRM avoids magnets.
But needs more installation space.

NAFTech proposes axial SynRM.

Combine compactness with magnet free design.

Material cost may drop 50%. 💡
That changes SME economics.

Less exposure to volatile magnet prices. 🌍

I just came across a motor technology that could completely rethink how motors work.
This M-DAM degravitational motor with magnetic propulsion might truly surprise you.

We know that conventional motors use stator-induced magnetic fields and rotor induction to generate torque, but they suffer from losses due to resistance, eddy currents, and heat.

Now, this new-generation motor introduces a fundamentally different but interesting concept. 
Rather than relying on the traditional stator–rotor configuration, 
The M-DAM motor is built around a magnetic gear system where the toothed wheels never physically touch.

Torque transmission occurs entirely through magnetic attraction and repulsion.

At its center is a main gear (“Sun”), encircled by synchronized satellite gears (“Earth” and “Moon”). These gears embed permanent magnets and rotate in coordinated pairs.

Because the magnetic teeth engage without contact, mechanical friction and phase shifts are minimized.
Field suppressors are incorporated to limit magnetic interference between opposing poles.

Now, let’s walk through the design and core specifications. 
🎯 Magnetic gear train (Sun–Earth–Moon architecture)
🎯 Four Soowil boosters and four magnetic impellers
🎯 24 permanent magnet spheres in a vacuum orbital system
🎯 128 peripheral copper windings
🎯 3,000–3,500 RPM operating speed
🎯 Output: ~32 kVA (prototype stage)
🎯 Managed by a pulse-controlled electronic system

 So, what really makes this technology different? Let us talk about it. 
✅ No physical gear contact → lower mechanical wear
✅ Synchronized magnetic fields → stable rotational speed
✅ Compact magnetic configuration → potential for higher power density
✅ Reduced phase displacement → improved torque consistency
✅ Centrifugal-force-based design → mitigation of eddy current effects

My key takeaway is that, given its underlying technology and claimed advantages, the M-DAM motor has the potential to challenge the century-old stator–rotor paradigm.

However, its true impact will depend entirely on successful industrial validation and scalable real-world performance.
