26 things you MUST delete to make 2026 the best year of your life. 

Adding more is the old way.
Deleting more is the modern way. 

Most of what’s slowing you down isn’t a lack of effort — it’s tolerating things that no longer match who you’re becoming.

Instead of asking what you need to build, here’s a better question:  
What needs to go?

1. People who doubt you consistently and subtly  
2. Procrastinating on the few important things that bring relief once done  
3. Cheap dopamine: constant reacting, scrolling, binging  
4. Decisions driven by ego instead of direction  
5. Relationships anchored to an old version of you  
6. Doing things for others that conflict with who you’re becoming  
7. Waiting for external wins to justify feeling happy  
8. Explaining yourself when no explanation is required  
9. Re-explaining boundaries you’ve already made clear  
10. Drinking alcohol when you don’t even want to  
11. Being available all day and wondering why nothing meaningful moves  
12. Constantly chasing the next thing  
13. Consuming information instead of acting on what you already know

Being a founder isn’t what you do, it’s who you are.
That's why 'work-life balance' never resonated with me.

I hated the fact you had to split the 2, as though your work is separate to life?

Work is life.
Love is life.
Socialising is life.
Health is life.

It's all life because without one, you don't have a fulfilling life.

What I started to understand when coaching other founders is that they don’t experience work as a job.

They experience it as an expression of creativity, identity & purpose.

It’s not “I run a company.”
It’s “I am a founder.”

That difference is big.

Because most mindset & life coaches advise founders to have more ‘balance’.
But that assumes ‘separation’.

Most founders don’t want separation.
They want alignment, coherence.
They’re ALL in on what they’re building.

This is something I call: “identity-driven work” and it has a cost.

When everything runs through one identity: the pressure to be successful ccummulates whilst deep relationships way whisper away, and health & fitness becomes excused due to workload.

Yes, many founders have high meaning & purpose, but they also inevitably accept massive pressure & stress.

And this isn’t conducive to a life of freedom until you’ve figured your sh** out.

The issue isn’t working too much:

The issue is a lack of t health / relationship / mental / personal systems.

Sustainable founders don’t spend less time building, they spend less time in anxious, guilty states because their health, life & relationships are in control.

If your work is the centre of your life, other systems become stabilisers.

Most people explain habits in one of two ways:

When they are consistent, they call it discipline.
When they are not, they assume they lack it.

That's the standard explanation for failing habits. 
It’s convenient, and it’s usually wrong.

You don't have a discipline problem.
You have an identity problem.

You can force behaviour for a while. Everyone can.
But behaviour always defaults back to whatever feels normal [and comfortable] for you.

That is why this sounds familiar:
“I know exactly what to do, I just don’t do it consistently.”

It looks like discipline.
It is usually identity.

Lasting habits are not maintained through effort.

They are expressed because they fit who you believe yourself to be.

You do not motivate yourself to brush your teeth.
You do not negotiate with yourself.

Not because it is easy.
Because it is settled.

Over time, the resistance to habit implementation reinforces the wrong story.

→ I am someone who needs to push myself
→ I am inconsistent by default
→ Consistency requires effort and pressure

The question is not how to become more disciplined.

It is what kind of person this behaviour would feel normal for.

When you can believe and become that person, the habit will feel effortless.

11 things in business that feel productive but aren't
Busyness is a very convincing distraction.
It's fooled me many times.

A lot of what we call productivity is just movement.
Activity creates a false sense of progress, which is why it feels satisfying.

Most high performers are not lazy.
They are overactive, doing too many of the wrong things.

Peter Drucker said: 
"Efficiency is doing things right.
Effectiveness is doing the right thing."

Cal Newport’s work discusses how shallow work creates visible effort.
Deep work creates disproportionate results, but demands discomfort before flow appears.

But too many of us are measuring against effort rather than results.

11 behavioural patterns that feel productive but block progress: 

1. Planning instead of deciding
2. Consuming content instead of executing
3. Trying new systems instead of committing to one
4. Replying quickly instead of acting deliberately
5. Optimising small tasks to avoid important ones
6. Starting new projects instead of finishing old ones
7. Over-preparing to avoid possible failure
8. Measuring time spent instead of outcomes created
9. Improving tools instead of improving focus
10. Saying “I’m busy” instead of setting boundaries
11. Researching instead of choosing

None of these are mistakes.
They are coping strategies when you have no clarity.

Progress accelerates when you stop avoiding decisions, commitment & clarity.

13 Mental Patterns of a Psychologically Mature Individual
[That make you more successful & resilient]

1. They don’t personalise everything that happens around them 
↳ Their mentality: "Life happens through you not to you."

2. They pause before reacting, even when emotions are strong 
↳ "Your first reaction should be a breath."

3. They don’t confuse discomfort with danger 
↳ They become comfortable with discomfort & don't avoid it.

4. They take responsibility without carrying unnecessary guilt 
↳ They lead through difficult times, even if they've made a mistake.

5. They can hold 2 conflicting ideas without rushing to resolve them 
↳ They're mentally present with different perspectives.

6. They stop explaining themselves to people who aren’t engaged 
↳ They don't need the reassurance of others who aren't going to understand.

7. They make and own decisions quickly
↳ Whatever path they choose, they own it without hesitation.

8. They tolerate uncertainty without constant reassurance 
↳ In turbulent periods, they maintain self-belief.

9. They don’t outsource self-worth to outcomes or approval 
↳ They're sense of self is robust and not determined by good or bad days.

10. They allow others to feel discomfort without needing to fix it 
↳ They lead others by not giving them an easy way out.

11. They recognise when effort is avoidance 
↳ They're self-aware and can identify differences on a deeper level.

12. They separate who they are from what they do 
↳ They're not attached to labels, they allow themselves freedom.

13. They don’t purely seek validation from external sources
↳ They rely only on themselves for validation.

Look at the list and reflect on your behaviour.
Are you who you say you are?

This list is what I've learnt from some of the most resilient and mature minds I've studied and worked 1-to-1 with.

If you can practice& & improve just 20% of this list, you'll do pretty well.

I’ve coached 100s of founders
And found 1 devastating pattern for performance. 

Self-monitoring. 

Complete exhaustion from self-monitoring.

What I mean by that is the constant self-talk going on in the background:

Am I doing enough?
Am I showing up how I should be?
Am I supposed to be here?

AM I ENOUGH…?

If we can all agree that founders must be the best executers in the world.

The most successful founders are likely the ones who are able to take idea to execution in the shortest period of time [along with other factors]

So when i came across the neuroscience research on this I found that the brain burns more energy on self-referential processing than on execution.

When identity lags behind reality, the mind stays switched on.

Not solving problems & putting in the work but scanning for danger.

That’s exhausting…and i know this because I have been there as a founder.

What usually helps isn’t another recovery protocol.

It’s letting go of the constant spiral of self-destruction.

Understand that a question without too much emotion will keep you grounded, eg: 

“Are you focusing on the right things, Harri?”

vs.

“Are you good enough to be coaching CEOs, Harri?” 

“Are you experienced enough to handle those problems, Harri?”

My process is simple; 
ask yourself the question, answer it, make changes if necessary, move on.

A question that is answered with another question, and another one, is a dangerous mental spiral that must be met with action at some point.

I’ve watched intelligent, experienced leaders make very bad decisions.
Here's why:

Stress. 

To be more specific, their internal state, their nervous system was under stress & pressure. 

When in fight, flight or freeze, the brain drops long term thinking and focuses on survival, NOW.

In that state, decisions reside in reactivity & insustainability.
The vision is lost in that moment.

As you can see from my example, it’s not a mindset issue, it’s a physiological issue.

Most leadership advice is great when you’re calm but breaks the moment pressure mounts.

What consistently improves judgement isn’t a better framework.
It’s lowering physiological load before making decisions.

Small changes matter more than big insights.

If your thinking feels more reactive than usual, maybe your body is feeling the stress & pressure.

It’s worth taking time to diagnose the system, not your intelligence.
