Ever wondered where the term for "blog" came from?

1994: The First "online diary"

1997: Term Web Log coined. "weblog"

1999: Term "blog" first emerges as "weblog" split to "we blog"

Fun facts for Friday.

If CMOs are so keen on "out of the box" thinking, why are most job posts so "in the box"?

Most job posts go like this (example):

Company = B2B SaaS in [insert vertical]

Job post = "Looking for a Marketer with X years of experience in B2B SaaS. Ideally, with this experience in [insert vertical here]. Major bonus if experience is within the [insert sub-vertical here]. 

You're hiring inside the box... inside the box!

Of course, experience in related niches is not to be dismissed and is valuable. 

But some of the best people I've hired and/or worked with come from unconventional backgrounds. 

So for sure, get the experience.

But why not sometimes do the wildcard thing:

B2B SaaS looking for B2C marketer with experience in FMCG or Fashion etc.

Perhaps that's the "out of the box" thinking you need?

I think most of us in the B2B marketing community agree the "B2B is boring" discourse has become boring itself.

But the underlying idea is actually more fundamental... "B2B is boring" was always a symptom, not a diagnosis.

B2B has always just been about "people at work." 

For some reason, we assume that people magically and fundamentally change as soon as they step into an office.

It's 2026. Millennials are now the face of day-to-day leadership in most companies. That same "decision maker" who watches TikTok at home doesn't suddenly want a 47-page whitepaper at 9 am.

Most brands (not living under a corporate rock) now know this.

B2B brands have proven they can be interesting and creative. We've had the Gong billboards, Spotify "Spreadbeats", Workday putting Ozzy Osbourne in a Super Bowl ad.

So should the conversation move on? I don't think so.

Saying "how do we make b2b less boring" is the wrong question to be asking. 

You need to go back to first principles!

Why should your target audience care about what you have to offer? How do you get their attention in 2026 and beyond?

Being boring definitely isn't going to help you. But not being boring won't magically solve your problems either.

Loveable's most exciting proposition for 2026.... Animated slides... ? 🤔

I'm seeing more and more people share posts on LinkedIn about using Lovable for use cases like "creating animated sales decks"...

...maybe some value in that but slide animations have existed since 2000. 

My guess is that people tend not to animate slides in business because the value it creates doesn't justify the cost (time)!

Tools like Lovable reduce the time so make the value worth it. Fine. But that's not exactly "the last piece of software you'll ever need" is it?

This isn't an attack on Lovable, Bolt, v0, etc, they obviously create value. They're genuinely impressive. 

But there's this weird gap between what they promise and how people actually use them.

The promise: Build any custom app you can imagine! Revolutionary!

The reality = I made my deck fade in from the left.

Perhaps the tools are powerful enough but most people can't actually imagine what to build with them? We're just reverse-engineer familiar use cases. 

Animated decks. Landing pages. Portfolio sites. Useful! But not exactly transformative either.

Most of us aren't trained to think "what custom software would actually move the needle for me?" We think "what SaaS can I subscribe to?"

So is this a problem for these companies? I'm not sure. 

Maybe they're waiting for the right users to "get it" (indie hackers probably closer than LinkedIn corporate posters). 

Maybe they're one update away from the real breakthrough use case. Or maybe the hype just needs to cool off until reality catches up.

I don't think we've hit a plateau in progress. But we might have hit a plateau in utilisation.

Are use cases just not clear yet or is this as good as it gets?

dear Devs, please get off your high horse. Vibe coder ≠ idiot.

all the "vibe coders" I know in business are incredibly smart, ahead of the curve, top 1% type of people...

and they are not oblivious to the real concerns around security, handoffs. ownership etc. 

so why all the smugness? the "world's best developer" memes? the "Kevin can't even find his database" posts?

seems like there is some ego protection going on.

you know what vibe coders DO know?

the actual problem. the user. the business context. what needs to exist and why.

ops, marketing, hr, sales.... all these business folks can now prototype tools in a matter of days or hours. 

no, it's not "production-grade". But it proves a concept and is often extremely valuable. 

the way things get built is changing. fast. people with zero coding background are shipping functional tools in days. not perfect tools. but real ones that solve real problems.

you can either mock them or figure out how to work with them

vibe-coders aren't going away. the tools are only getting better. the barrier is only getting lower.

the smartest devs I know are figuring out how to partner with vibe-coders. Not mock them.

stop gatekeeping a skill that's being democratised. 

stop assuming vibe-coders are stupid.  or you'll quickly find yourself left behind by devs who embrace these changes, not resist them.
