I'm a firm believer that personalized outbound SDRs will become obsolete in the next 6–12 months. People are starting to realize it's all automated — and once they do, the perceived value disappears. 

The whole point of personalization was signaling effort. When everyone knows a machine wrote it, that signal means nothing.

And their message doesn't say they were "impressed by my accomplishments as a technologists" and doesn't say they think we have "synergies in innoavtion"

Building software is easier than ever.

Distribution is harder than ever.

If I were you, and I am not, I am me...

I would focus my time and efforts become a master at distribution.

This is where your leg up will be in the next 3-5 years.

While everyone is busy building, most folks still won't know how to effectively bring these products to market.

If you're a founder building in the AI space, the smartest place to double down is on your prorietary data layer.

Some call it the data moat, I call it the data GOAT. Ha.

LLMs like Claude are making it trivially easy to connect to external data sources through protocols like MCP.

Any tech literate person can now wire up an AI to pull from Slack, Salesforce, Google Drive, databases — whatever. In minutes.

That means every AI startup whose value proposition is "we connect AI to your tools" is watching their differentiation evaporate in real time.

If you're sitting on proprietary data that nobody else has — data you've collected, enriched, structured, and curated you're in a fundamentally different position.

The AI infrastructure is actually working in your favor. 

Better models and easier integrations mean your unique data becomes MORE valuable and more accessible, not less.

The easier these LLMs make it to access external data, the more valuable your data, and your company becomes.

You can now sell access to your data regardless of how the end user accesses it.

The reasoning layer is getting commoditized.

The data layer isn't.

Nate take: Most AI agency margins are a mirage.

The play right now is straightforward... automate with AI, charge like you didn't. 

And it works. For now...

Even Y Combinator is heavily investing in these AI agency service model.

But there's a concept in behavioral science called the Labor Illusion Effect: people pay more when the perceived effort that went into the work is also high.

That's the entire pricing foundation for most AI agencies today. 

Perceived effort. Automate behind the scenes but present as if it's service based.

But as the market catches up, the perceived effort diminishes.

Perceived effort drops and prices will follow.

And these tech companies that are pricing as if they were service companies... will fall right with it.
