#Oman just introduced 𝐌𝐚𝐚𝐥, the Sultanate’s first national payment card. It is a major step in building a self-reliant domestic payment system that reduces dependence on international networks for local transactions.

𝐌𝐚𝐚𝐥 is issued by local banks and runs on OmanNet, which means it works across ATMs, CDMs, POS terminals, e-commerce, and even government digital services.

This launch is guided by the Central Bank of Oman as part of the country’s digital transformation goals under Vision 2040. The focus is clear: lower costs, local control, data localization, stronger security, and wider access to digital payments across the country, especially in remote regions.

What makes 𝐌𝐚𝐚𝐥 important is not just the card. It is the model.

🚨 PayPal Becomes Liverpool Football Club’s Digital Payment Partner


PayPal has signed a global multi-year deal to become Liverpool Football Club’s official digital payment partner. It is #PayPal’s first partnership with a Premier League club and brings its 400 million+ users into the matchday and fan-commerce flow. 

Fans will now be able to use #PayPal across LFC’s digital platforms, with faster, more secure checkout and the launch of #PayPal+, a loyalty programme where supporters earn points and unlock tiers like Gold and Black with exclusive rewards. 

Beyond #payments, the partnership includes initiatives to support LFC Women and grassroots #football through the LFC Foundation.

Across the major public players, digital channels are the only direction showing consistent growth. Remitly, Wise and Euronet all reported higher revenues this quarter, while Western Union was the only one that declined even though it still holds the largest C2C revenue base.

Here is what stands out this quarter:

1. Remitly 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤
Revenue grew 25 percent to 420 million dollars. Strong customer growth and higher send amounts continue to push the company ahead.

2. Wise 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭
The Personal segment rose 10 percent to 261 million pounds. Wise is leaning more into the Wise Account, business usage and its real time network to drive future scale.

3. Euronet 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
Overall growth was 3 percent, but digital transactions jumped 32 percent. Leadership expects digital to reach up to 35 percent of all transfers while maintaining an omnichannel approach for markets that still rely on cash.

4. Western Union 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞
CMT revenue declined 6 percent to 878 million dollars. Yet branded digital still grew 7 percent and now accounts for 29 percent of CMT. It is the clearest sign of where the company’s future sits.

Growth is slower across all players compared with last year. A cooling in migration flows especially tied to recent US policy changes has reduced activity on key corridors.

Even with these headwinds, the direction is clear. Providers pushing digital rails are moving forward. Providers holding on to legacy corridors are slowing down.

Q3 2025 shows that the future of money transfers is not shifting toward digital someday. It is already unfolding.

The pricing looks close, which is why most people start the debate in the wrong place. Both platforms offer a free plan, similar online rates, and Tap to Pay. On paper, the gap is small. In practice, the difference is obvious once you look at how each product is designed.

Square starts from the physical moment of payment. It suits restaurants, retail counters, coffee shops, food trucks, and appointment services. The hardware lineup is broad, the loyalty features are built in, and the inventory tools work out of the box. Stripe begins at the checkout layer. It is built for online flows, cross-border payments, and flexibility. It supports more than one hundred currencies and payment methods like PayPal, Venmo, and Amazon Pay. Agentic payments promise convenience, but automation amplifies failure modes.

A human makes a mistake once. An agent repeats it thousands of times.
A misconfigured rule or routing path can create systemic issues long before anyone notices.

𝟮. 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱
If an agent is compromised, fraud doesn’t happen one transaction at a time.
It happens at machine speed. Existing fraud models are not built for adversaries that move this fast.

𝟯. 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆
When an AI triggers a transaction, who is responsible for a refund, dispute or chargeback?
Merchant? Issuer? User? Platform?
Without clear rules, the system becomes fragile.

𝟰. 𝗔𝗜 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀
Agents adapt over time. If their behaviour drifts into non-compliant or inefficient patterns, the damage happens quietly.
The audit trail becomes harder to interpret.

𝟱. 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸
Attackers already automate most of their behaviour.
Giving them a payment layer that is also automated increases the attack surface dramatically.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀?

This is the part most industry posts skip.
Consumers worry about one thing: 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹.
Will the AI send money without asking me?
Can it be tricked?

Agentic systems do not override intent, but they act faster than users can react.
Trust will collapse instantly if even one unexpected payment slips through.
