I used to say yes to everything because it was easier in the moment. But it was expensive later on.

I learned that I’d be much better off setting boundaries than feeling
resentful that I’d agreed to do something I didn’t have time to do.
 
Here are the top scripts I still use.
Steal them.
Tweak them.
Use them today.
 
A meeting I do not need:

“Thank you for thinking of me. I am heads down on a few other priorities right now and so I won’t be able to attend this. If you send a short note with the goal and one question you need answered, I will reply by Friday.”
 
Pick my brain:

“I appreciate the invite but I’m currently limiting such things so I can focus on something I need to get built over the next couple of months. If you’ve got a specific question, reply here and I will share a quick answer when I can.”
 
Quick favour that is not quick:

“Thanks for asking. I don’t have the capacity to do this well right now, so I am going to pass. Here are two resources that should be able to help you.”
 
Project that I don’t want to be involved with:

“This does look interesting and thanks for thinking of me. However, it doesn’t align with my current focus, so I will decline for now. If that changes, I will reach out.”
 
Time ask during focus hours:

“I’ll be offline for deep work until 2 pm. If it can wait, I can come back to you after that. If it is time sensitive, please proceed without me.”
 
Intro request I cannot make:

“I avoid surprising people with intros. If you send a three sentence blurb I can forward, I am happy to send it on to them and they can reach out if they’re interested.”
 
Scope creep:

“I really like the sound of these additions, however, what you are asking for is outside the scope of our original agreement. Would you like me to price it up as an additional piece of work?”
 
Job offer or opportunity that is not a fit:

“I am grateful for the offer. I am optimising for a different direction right now, so I am going to decline. I wish you the best finding the right person.”
 
Friend or family invitation I cannot accept:

“Thank you for thinking of me. I can’t make it this time but I am sure you’ll all have a great time, and I’ll look forward to hearing all about it!”
 
There are a few principles that make saying no easier:
 
Say no quickly.
Because silence creates false hope.
 
Be brief.
Because explanations invite debate.
 
Offer an option that works for you.
A later date. A different scope. An async option.
 
“No” protects your energy.
Yes should earn its place.

How to Say no without guilt

Most career decisions aren’t made strategically.

They’re made emotionally.

A layoff.
A shiny title.
A spike of fear dressed up as “opportunity”.

So people chase movement, but not always the right direction.

The result is the same doubts, just at a higher pay band.

A few years ago, I realised I needed a better way to decide.
Not more thinking.
Better filters.

So I built a simple framework I now use for every big decision.

I call it The Decision Grid.

It asks just two questions:

1. Does this increase my freedom or reduce it?
2. Does this expand my impact or shrink it?

If it doesn’t do both, it’s a no.

Not a “maybe”.
Not a “for now”.
A no.

Because every meaningful career is built on the same trade-offs:

Freedom over fear.
Impact over image.
Long-term leverage over short-term relief.

That’s how people stop being busy and start being significant.

You don’t need more clarity.
You need a framework that removes bad options fast.

Use this grid the next time you’re at a crossroads.

If it grows your freedom and your impact, it’s a smart move.
Everything else is noise.

A simple test for better career decisions

There’s something I’ve seen again and again with senior professionals, especially those who’ve outperformed quietly for years.

They become the foundation.

The person others lean on.

The one who makes it all work behind the scenes.

And for a while, that feels like recognition.

But eventually, the appreciation starts to sound the same.

– “Thanks for holding the fort”

– “You’re so dependable”

– “We can always count on you”

There’s nothing wrong with being the safe pair of hands.

But it becomes a problem when that’s all they see.

And if your value has become expected, you’ll wait forever for promotion.

I don’t think most people get stuck because they stop performing.

I think they get stuck because their environment stops imagining them any differently.

And unless you actively reframe how you’re seen, you’ll be respected, thanked… and left right where you are.

That’s not a reflection of your ability.

It’s a reflection of the system you’re operating in.

"Just work harder" is the most damaging lie told to good people in broken workplaces.
 
And the best workers always hear it most.
 
When companies are a complete mess, have no money, or rubbish bosses, they praise staying late over actually getting things done.
 
So the message becomes:

Try harder.
Stay later.
Push through.
 
But here's what nobody dares say out loud:
 
Working harder in a broken system doesn't fix the system.

It just destroys the people trapped inside it.
 
Top performers react to broken systems by:

- Doing way more than their fair share

- Fixing stuff that isn't their job

- Bottling up all the pressure

- Confusing being a hero with making a real difference
 
They don't whinge.

They just cover for everyone else.
 
And that's exactly why this lie keeps working.
 
"Just work harder" sounds noble.
It sounds fair.
It sounds like you've got control.
 
But it sneakily shifts all the blame away from useless management, terrible planning, and backwards priorities - straight onto the person already giving everything.
 
The real move isn't working more.
 
It's asking the brutal questions:

- What's properly broken here?

- What am I propping up that deserves to collapse?

- Where am I losing my energy?

- What would actual progress look like, not just barely surviving?
 
Being brilliant at your job isn't about grinding yourself to bits.
 
It's about choosing where your effort actually makes a difference.

Just work harder is toxic advice in broken companies

The biggest threat to senior careers isn’t burnout

In 2018, every day felt like a fight against my brain while everyone else seemed *fine*. 

I felt weird, alone and so nervous. 

All the time. 

I had trouble sleeping, my heart racing so fast, it felt like I was drowning. 

I also had panic attacks and couldn’t leave my house. 

I tried to numb the pain with

→ partying

→ emotional eating

→ hours of mindless scrolling

But that only made things worse. 

At one point, I was so sick of all of it. 

‘’I don’t want to live like this. There must be a way out’’

Truth is: There was a way out. But it was SO hard. 

During many years of painful research, spending thousands of $$$ and applying endless amounts of tools, I fell flat on my face many times.

I almost gave up. 

I’m glad I never did. 

Because once I started to see results?

My life started to feel lighter. 

My mind finally relaxed. 

And so did my body. 

For the first time in my life, I finally felt safe.

Once upon a time not long ago, my heart got broken.

→ “maybe this is my husband”

And if I’m honest…

The problem wasn’t him.

It was me.

As women, we’re told to have standards.

Yes a little chase is fun.

But that was not what this was.

This was emotional.

The problem?

A big fat wall around my heart.

It felt safe.

But that safety came at a cost.

It kept love out.

For years, I didn’t see it.

How often I sabotaged my dating life.

But my eyes just opened.

Finally.

Here’s what I know now ↓

Control doesn’t create connection.

It stops the right man from entering your life.

So I’m learning to:
→ soften 
→ lower my wall 
→ let someone in

With someone who sees RIGHT through me.

It feels uncomfortable at times.

But I also know ↓

Once you see your pattern,
things can shift fast.

Hella fast.

I’ve seen it with my clients.

I’ve lived it myself.

Remember this:

Real growth starts when you admit you f*cked up.

And you:
→ open your mind
→ kick your ego out the door
→ listen to someone who walked the road

Why?

Because they create rigid rules

→ Married by 30
→ Millionaire by 40
→ Getting retired by 50

And once you believe them,

you start fighting yourself.

How to break down the illusion:

You don’t know what’s going to happen.

And you need to find peace in that.

Whatever it is that you want
→ more love
→ more money
→ more happiness

Maybe you’re dealing with pain in your
→ mind
→ body
→ soul

There are 2 ways to deal with it:

1. You can keep going.

Ignore the signals.

Push through.

Fight change.

Burn out.

Or..

2. You can choose trust.

That whenever sh*t hits the fan, it’s not random.

You may need to
→ slow down
→ learn a lesson
→ work on your mind

Just to be clear:

I have nothing against goals. 

You need direction in life.

I’m talking about the exact how + when.

That was never ours to decide.

I’m done fighting.

Now?

My energy is open again.

Because you deserve a life that feels

And even when it gets hard,

NOT by fixing yourself.

But by stopping the inner war ↓


1. Sit with your feelings

Let yourself feel without judging.

Feelings don’t disappear when you say:

‘’I’m busy’’

and you move on.

They just get more intense.

Hitting you at the exact moment when life’s already a mess.

2. Reconnect with your inner voice

Not with your bully brain.

Your intuition.

The one that is buried

underneath all your fears + anxieties.

3. Put a full stop on self-rejection

That is no way to build a relationship with yourself.

Nothing is wrong with you.

Stop lying.

The fastest way to heal from all of this?

Work on your self-image.

You need to look at the world as 1 big adventure.

Where you learn every day.

About you.

Your
→ goals
→ dreams

And also…

Your patterns that keep you from reaching them.

As you walk into the weekend,
remember this:

Never accept the voice
telling you you’re bad.

You’re already good enough

I paid €5K for a mentor and instantly regretted my whole life.


I hit “send payment” and felt…

annoyed.

Not because of the money.

I was annoyed with her.

Did she do anything wrong?

No. 
I paid her. 
I chose her.

And yet there I was, jumping around my living room, frustrated and irritated.

So I: 
→ paused 
→ closed my eyes 
→ stepped into my inner world

And that’s when it clicked.

I was stopping myself.

To grow.

We talk about comfort zones like they only show up as fear.

That “oh my god, this is scary” feeling.

but you can also just get…

MAD

Not because something is wrong

but because your system is trying to pull you back into what’s familiar.

The €5K wasn’t the problem.

My next level was.

And my old identity was screaming STOP,

using emotions as the perfect excuse.

So why am I sharing this?

Because you’re doing this somewhere too.

You’re calling it: 
→ intuition 
→ a bad feeling 
→ it’s not aligned

But if you’re honest ↓

it’s your nervous system protecting an outdated version of you.

So I’ll ask you this:

I cut my stress in half in 30 seconds. Here’s the secret:

(it changed my life)

When I feel stressed or anxious, I don't
→ “fix” my thoughts
→ overthink it

All I do?

Drop back in my body.

I remind my nervous system that I’m safe.

“Hey, no lion is chasing you.

You’re okay.”

Here’s how I do it:

1. I breathe in
2. I breathe out slowly
3. I look around the room I’m in
4. I ask myself:
“Does my stress match what’s happening right now?”
5. My shoulders drop
6. My body relaxes
7. Done

Do this anytime you feel anxious.

Your body knows what to do.

Just give it 30 seconds.
