A True Leader Protects You

When I led my first real project, half the team didn't really do anything...

A few people even disappeared when deadlines hit.

And two people – just two – kept the whole thing alive.

They stayed late.
They fixed what others broke.
They refused to let it fail.

We love to say “teamwork makes the dream work.”

It sounds nice.
It even rhymes.
But often it’s not true.

Here are the 3 types of people in a team:

1/ A few people carry the mission.

These are your DRIVERS.
They don’t wait for direction.
They just make it happen.
They treat every project like it has their name on it.

2. Most people just follow along

These are your PASSENGERS.
They get going once things are already moving.
They’re good people, just not self-starters.
They ride the momentum, but they rarely create it.

3. Some people pull it backwards.

These are your DRAINERS.
All talk. No output. Lots of excuses.
They slow progress in the name of “better alignment.”

What should you do with each of these?

Give your Drivers power and pay them very well.

Give your Passengers tasks that stretch them a bit.

And give your Drainers a mirror and a moment to decide whether they want to be on the team at all.

“Do we still REALLY need wireframes?”
I get this question from junior designers most of the time.

My answer?
Absolutely...

Here’s why wireframing is non-negotiable:

✔️ It defines hierarchy and core functionality
✔️ It helps you visualize the full picture before designing
✔️ It saves you from expensive mistakes later

Wireframes aren’t “optional.”
They’re the foundation of every great design project.

Here are my top tips for wireframing like a pro:

▶ Content

— Focus on user tasks, not paragraphs
 — Label sections clearly instead of writing copy
 — Keep content blocks short to avoid visual noise

▶ Colour

— Skip the colours; they pull attention in the wrong direction
— Focus on hierarchy, not branding
— Stick to clean greyscale

▶ Annotations

— Add notes where visuals may confuse
— Clarify your decisions
— Never assume people understand your thinking

▶ Accessibility

— Ensure all components scale well
— Think about keyboard and screen reader paths
— Prioritize simplicity to reduce cognitive load

Remote jobs are boring? Really? 🤔

People say remote work feels dull.
Same chair. Same desk. Same view.
But is that really true?

After 10 years in this industry -
5 years in office, 5 years remote -
I can confidently say, it’s what you make of it.

“Designers take the easy path.”
Let’s clear that up once and for all.

Software development is right behind - both rising nearly 20% every year.

Yet people still ask me:

“which career is better? Design or development?”

Here’s the truth -
Both are powerful.
Both are in demand.
Both require deep thinking.

Myth 1: “Design is easy.”

No.
Good design is psychology, systems, clarity, emotion, and behavior - blended into one experience.

Myth 2: “Development pays more.”

Not anymore.
AI + no-code are shrinking that gap fast.
Tools like Bolt now turn Figma files into fully functional apps.
Designers no longer “hand off.”
They ship.

So which path should you choose?

Figma just dropped some huge updates at Schema 2025 👀
And honestly...

1. Extended Collections
No more forcing “modes” for every brand variation.
You can now create extended collections inside a main collection - keeping modes only for essentials like light/dark.
(Enterprise-only for now.)

2. Slot Components
Define containers as slots and build modals, cards, charts, or layouts way faster.
Component-based design just leveled up.

3. Check Designs
Figma will now auto-check your design consistency - spotting style/variable mismatches and suggesting quick fixes.
It’s like having a built-in design reviewer.

4. Import & Export Variables (JSON)
Import and export variables as JSON without plugins.
Perfect for system teams and multi-platform workflows.

5. Performance Boosts
Expect everything to feel smoother:
• Faster file loading
• Better image rendering
• Zero prototype lag

6. Make Kit
Import design kits into Make, edit components, and even use prompts to add interactivity in seconds.

7. NPM Package Import
Developers can now pull React components directly from NPM into Figma Make.
Design–dev collaboration? Much tighter now.

Bonus:
Modes, Code Connect, and MCP Server also got solid updates - especially for dev-heavy workflows.
