15 years in the speaking industry taught me one thing…

Your voice is more powerful than your fears.

Here’s the best public speaking advice I can give anyone who wants to step on stage:

1. Clarity beats charisma - You don’t need to be the loudest or the funniest, you just need to be understood. Speak with intention, not performance.

2. Stories win hearts; structure wins minds - A great story makes them feel you. A clear structure makes them follow you. Combine both methods.

3. Reps > confidence - Confidence doesn’t come before you speak. It comes because you speak.
The more you speak, the better you become.

4. Purpose kills fear - When your message becomes bigger than your nerves, the nerves lose their power.

5. Don’t chase perfection, chase connection - Perfect speakers are forgettable. Authentic speakers are undeniable.

If you want to become a speaker… start today. Not when you “feel ready.”

Ready is a result of doing….not waiting.

Some of the content I see online lately…
WOW.

People are doing everything except being themselves.

Meanwhile me?

Not jumping off rooftops.
Not pretending to cry for “motivation”.
Not renting a Lamborghini for story time.
Not filming with a ring light at 3am whispering “rise and grind”.

I’m not built for that.
And honestly… neither is my integrity.

Here’s the truth:

Real content hits harder than staged confidence.

People don’t want a performance, they want a person.

Someone relatable, someone genuine.

Someone whose message still lands when the camera’s off.

So if you ever see me doing some wild, out of character nonsense online…

Just know:

My account’s been hacked.
Call the police.
Ring my mum.
Do something. 😂

I was a guest on a podcast last week.

Super kind guy from the US who was genuinely excited to have me on.

But something felt a little weird.

I'd open the loop, answer a question, share a story, drop a framework.

And he'd go: "yeah, okay... so what about xyz?"

Every. Single. Time.

"yeah, okay"

He wanted to just go straight to the next question on his list.

I could see Antonia in the corner of my studio 

(she sits in on most of my remote recordings)

Her face said it all: "Is he even listening?"

At first, I thought: Maybe I'm just a terrible guest?

But then it hit me.

He wasn't having a conversation. He was completing a checklist.

✅ Question 1
✅ Question 2
✅ Question 3

The irony? Before the interview, he was so excited. 

After? He messaged saying how great it went.

And honestly, the content was great, but the energy was super one way.

Here's what I learned:

A great podcast isn't about asking great questions.

It's about creating great moments.

And great moments only happen when you actually listen.

When I interview someone, I tend to forget my question list halfway through.

Because I'm too busy following the interesting threads they're opening up.

That's where the gold is: in the space between the questions.

Your guest is handing you diamonds. Are you stopping to pick them up?

Or are you too busy checking off boxes?

So if you're running a podcast and wondering why your episodes feel flat:

Stop reading your questions like a robot & start listening like a human.

Your guests will feel it. 

Your audience will hear it. 

And your podcast will actually stand out.

I HATE when people call themselves an expert.

What does that even mean?

How can you define yourself as an expert??

Here’s what you can do instead:

Firstly, stop talking about your credentials. 

For example, no one cares if I have a business degree or a masters degree.

Secondly, solve a real specific massive pain problem for them.

Be useful and solve it better than ANYONE else.

But difficult to execute on your own.

But when our clients come into our network and realise how much we can offer them…

Then implement everything we say…

They hit record months.

So PLEASE stop calling yourself an expert and instead help solve one problem for one ICP.

When you meet someone new, what’s your default setting?

Let me explain.

Mine is usually: you’re a nice person, prove me right.

Where as, Antonia’s (my fiance’s) is: you’re a jerk, prove me wrong.

Two very different operating systems. 

One born out of optimistically giving people a chance. 

The other born out of skepticism and perhaps life experience, to not give people a chance until they’ve proven trust.

My podcast guest a few months ago (for the second time) was Jodie Cook. 

Jodie sold her agency for 7 figures a few years back. 
She’s a champion power lifter.
She writes daily for Forbes.
She and her husband Ben en now travel the world whilst working on their industry leading AI company, Coach Vox.

Jodie and I are similar and we discovered this whilst having dinner with our partners after our first podcast together in early April 2025 in Dubai. 

We both work off the first operating system: 

You’re a nice person, prove me right. 

However, both of our partners work off the opposing system.

It got us talking about being intentional and using these systems to get whatever it is you want from your business.

Some people you meet and they change how you think.

At school and throughout my teens I couldn’t speak in front of groups of more than about 3 without going bright red and tripping over my words.

Now, I’ve interviewed over 130 of the best founders in the world on my podcast: The Healthy Entrepreneur Podcast.

And my team and I have coached more than 200+ founders. 

It’s fair to say I now live my life the way I do because of speaking… 

But it wasn’t by being forced to speak publicly at university or leading teams in my corporate jobs that helped me.

It was the self confidence I gained from meeting Mike Jones and Stefan Husanu in 2023 and something Ollie Wickham said in 2019. 

Mike taught me to dive deeply into who I am as a person, to reflect often and understand where my energy comes from. Which it turns out comes from working on something with a purpose and interacting with interesting people.

Stefan taught me to believe in myself and to speak positively about myself (also to keep good company) just like he believed in himself on the way to building Pith & Stem. to the mega success it is today 💪🏼

And Ollie helped me understand what ‘being nervous’ actually means whilst we were stood in a queue to go Go Karting in Northern Italy. He said, if you can comprehend why you are nervous you can combat it. Is it because you’re scared of being hurt? Scared of embarrassing yourself or even the fear of failure? Once you understand that you can rationalise it and overcome it.

Speaking isn’t scary. The thought of what others might think about you when you’re being recognized might be what’s holding you back.

Side note: listen to the people around you because they’re teaching you to be better every day, whether you realise it or not.
