Made sure company, which was working under a Business Associate agreement with hospitals all over the US & Puerto Rico, was compliant with Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and HIPAA. Researched why health insurer (public, ie Medicare, Medicaid, or private such as BC/BS or Humana, etc) did not pay facility medical claim and fixed whatever the issue was so that the claim would pay. Researched legal issues for corporate manager and/or attorney. Worked with patients' estate attorneys to obtain patient share of payments. Worked with public entities such as DSS, Dept. of Labor, IRS, State Depts of Insurance, State Attorney Generals to resolve compliance issues with insurance companies refusing to pay claims that the law says they should have paid. Interfaced with insurance company compliance departments to ensure regulations and laws were being complied with pertaining to our cases. Researched medical coding (ICD-9, CPT & HCPCS) issues to make sure hospital has coded claim correctly to gain reimbursement. Billed both private and public insurance payors using UB04 form and electronic billing. Completed insurance appeals and Fair Hearings. Did (and won) RAC appeals.
