So every gram, watt, and degree of efficiency matters.

🧠 Let’s understand a breakthrough that’s reshaping motor design —

 The Axial-Flux Motor with a PCB Stator.

🔍 What’s inside a motor?

Every motor has two key parts:

Rotor: the part that spins.

Stator: the fixed part that produces the magnetic field.

Traditional stators are made of iron, which is heavy and limits efficiency.

In fact, iron makes up about two-thirds of motor weight!

Now imagine replacing that iron with a Printed Circuit Board (PCB).

A PCB is a thin, layered board with copper traces — commonly used in electronics.

Here, it replaces the iron stator with a lightweight, efficient, and compact alternative.

🌀 Axial-Flux Motor — A smarter design

In an axial-flux motor, the rotor and stator are flat and parallel —
like two disks facing each other.

This design allows higher torque density (more torque per volume)
and better cooling due to its thin profile.

Add a PCB stator, and you get:
 ✅ 50–65% lighter weight
 ✅ 25% lower carbon emissions
 ✅ Half the size and noise of conventional motors

💡 Why it matters

The air-core design (no iron core) reduces energy losses.

In a normal motor, iron causes eddy current losses — unwanted heating and vibration.

The PCB motor avoids this, giving smoother torque and less noise (about 5 dB lower).

It also allows two rotors on each side of the stator, creating a strong and consistent magnetic flux — the invisible field that actually spins the motor.

🧩 Smarter electronics inside

Each PCB layer carries one electrical phase. (A phase is a timed sinusoidal current wave used to create rotation.)

This prevents short circuits and improves reliability.

A Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) — made with high-efficiency silicon carbide MOSFETs — controls motor speed and torque precisely.

It even allows cloud monitoring and software updates 🌐.

🌍 Real-world applications

Infinitum Electric’s PCB axial-flux motors are now used in:
HVAC and ventilation systems 🏢

I expected an event.
 I experienced a way of life.
 It was an amazing learning experience.

This event showed me how people live there.
 Their food.
 Their culture.
 Their lifestyle.
 And why it must be preserved.

What stood out to me 🌱

 While overseeing a materials stall, I learned this.
 Every region has its own strength.

 Local Clothing. 
 Local materials.

 Regulation followed. Excuses didn’t. 🎯 👇

🚨 China reported rising EV fires recently. 🔥
 According to a study, approximately seven EV fires occur daily.
 This raised public concern about EV adoption. ⚡

China has taken a hard stand.
 Zero tolerance for EV fires.

They introduced “No fire. No explosion.”
 This is now mandatory.

Let’s break this technically. 👇

Battery safety standards are legal rules.
 They are not optional anymore.

China upgraded rules across 13 sectors.
 EV power batteries are included. 🔋

Seven ministries released this framework.
 It is approved and enforceable.

Key focus areas are clear.
 🔹 Energy efficiency improvement
 🔹 Product safety and quality
 🔹 Recycling and circular usage ♻️

Energy efficiency means reduced energy waste.
 Old factories must shut down. 🏭

113 national standards were updated.
 Motors, boilers, and transformers face limits.

Thermal management controls battery heat. 🌡️
 Better design prevents fire propagation.

EV batteries must never ignite.
 Explosions are strictly forbidden. ❌

The new rule is GB 38031-2025.
 Effective from July 1, 2026.
 Older models get limited transition time.

China also mandates battery recycling.
 From collection to regeneration. ♻️

The Urban Cruiser Ebella EV 543 km range⚡
Is this enough for India?

The Ebella is a mid-size electric SUV.

✅ It uses an LFP battery 🔋
 LFP means Lithium Iron Phosphate.
 It offers better thermal safety.
 Two packs exist.
 49 kWh and 61 kWh.

✅ Range is claimed at 543 km.
 Range means distance per full charge.

✅  The motor is front-wheel drive.
 FWD sends power to front wheels.
 Output is 108–128 kW.
 Torque is 189 Nm.
 Torque means rotational pulling force.

✅  DC fast charging is supported ⚡
 10 to 80% in 45 minutes.

✅  BaaS is offered.
 BaaS means Battery as a Service.
 It lowers upfront cost.

My thoughts on this are below 👇

1️⃣ Yes, the 543 km range matters.
 India’s highways now support long EV drives.
 But charging ecosystem growth is critical.

2️⃣ BaaS is primarily a financing tool.
 It lowers upfront EV purchase costs.
 It aids adoption while EVs cost more than ICE.

3️⃣ Platform originality should lead strategy.
 A strong EV identity builds lasting trust

⚡🤔 What if one insight from Michael Steenburg’s interview could change how we design and build electric motors? 🔧📘 Let’s explore the Transverse-Flux Architecture (TFA).

 🔍 A learning summary from the Modal Motors interview with CEO Michael Steenburg

Modal Motors is building next-gen motors using a Transverse-Flux Architecture (TFA). 

This design is very different from the Radial-Flux Motors (RFM) used in most EVs today.

Let us break down the core ideas in simple words 👇

🔧 What is Transverse-Flux Architecture?
TFA sends magnetic flux sideways, not radially.
 Flux means the magnetic field flow in a motor.
 This sideways flow allows more copper, more torque, and less winding complexity.

⚙️ Why does this matter?
Torque Density = torque produced per unit volume.
 Higher torque density gives:
 • Smaller motors 🚗
 • More cabin space
 • Lower vehicle mass
 • Better range

Modal Motors improves torque density by using:
 • Fewer parts
 • Wider copper paths
 • Better cooling

🧵 Why simplify motor assembly?
Traditional motors require dozens of precisely wound windings.
 Each winding adds a tolerance stack-up.
 Tolerance = allowed deviation in dimensions.
 Too much deviation affects the air gap between rotor and stator.
 A tight air gap improves efficiency but increases manufacturing cost.

TFA reduces winding count and parts.
 This cuts costs, time, and reliance on rare-earth magnets.

🧊 Why is cooling critical?
Magnets lose strength when hot.
 Better cooling = stable performance.
 TFA supports easier heat removal.

🌱 Why is this architecture more sustainable?
Modal Motors uses net-shape molding.
 This means near-zero scrap during production.
 Stamped laminations create 40–60% scrap.
 Less scrap = lower emissions + lower cost.

🚀 Where will this tech be used first?
• Drones
 • Off-highway vehicles
 • Low-speed EVs
 • Defense propulsion

These sectors adopt new architectures faster than mainstream automakers.

🧭 Final Takeaway
TFA is not magic.
 It is smart engineering.
 It blends simpler manufacturing, higher torque density, better cooling, and lower material waste.
 It may help bring motor manufacturing back to the U.S. 🏭
