Big news for those of us working in and around #healthcareAI.  Epic and Oracle Health both submitted formal policy recommendations to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in February, responding to a request on accelerating clinical AI adoption. For the Epic community specifically, this is worth paying attention to.

Epic highlighted that its platform now includes more than 175 generative AI use cases released or actively in development.  The recommendations touched on areas many of us care deeply about, including reducing clinician documentation burden, supporting local validation of AI using real health system data and workflows, and calling for standardized performance metrics across the industry.  There was also a meaningful push for targeted support for smaller and rural providers who may lack the resources for ongoing AI monitoring after deployment.

It is encouraging to see industry leaders continuing to push into the policy conversation proactively, helping shape a framework that balances innovation with patient safety and equity.  For those of us who are healthcare IT professionals, this signals that AI governance, validation workflows, and operational readiness are becoming just as important as the technology itself.
