Neither my husband nor myself have a farming background, we didn’t grow up around livestock and we both had very small vegetable gardens as kids.

We wanted to get involved in small-scale farming because we believe that big agriculture is not sustainable.

I first learned about permaculture design when I started planting trees in my suburban backyard outside Dallas, Texas and they kept dying.

I learned more about the interconnected world of soil life. I got to appreciate how important water flow is, and how planting more than one thing together can help the whole do better.

After successfully planting some fruit trees, I wanted to bring animals into the picture to help increase our fertility and add diversity. 

So we made the plunge and bought a 17-acre farm. We kept a few of the original horses as boarders, and we’re grateful because we learned so much about farm life from these longtime horse owners who have seen it all.

After moving we jumped in with both feet and welcomed chickens, geese, ducks, and dairy sheep to our farm. Not to mention a few barn cats, and all of the amazing birds, butterflies, and bees.

We’ve been called “software nerds who pick up sheep turds” and that feels like a great way to put it.

The farm is an ever-evolving project, where we continue to plant more trees, and practice rotational grazing in an effort to regenerate the land and sequester carbon.

-Leveraged C# serialization and SOAP request/response messages to communicate with the Linux-run server side code while tracing the messages through from C# to Java in Eclipse.

-Wrote unmarshalling code to take XML and dynamically create columns and rows in a grid and display SOAP response data to traders.

-Incoporated my modules into the existing pricing form to recalculate prices based on the changing data retrieved from the feeds.

-Became the sole developer for the C#-based test automation project (both build and test managers), implementing over 30 new features while increasing the level of stability and performance of the program.

-Leveraged C/C++ and OpenGL to create visual test cases to verify a safety critical Aerospace graphics driver.

-Traced through the graphics driver code and helped driver developers to pinpoint bugs, while acquiring a deeper understanding of graphics and low level programming.

It’s a  question I ask many of my clients.

Many have poured huge amounts of time, money and energy into building guides, courses, books etc.

These are great assets to have for sure.

But 2026 is here, and the last thing the world needs is more information.

People crave transformation.

They don’t need another framework.
They need help turning what they know into what they do.

That’s where real value lies, in the human-to-human element.

As the AI noise gets louder it’s the human guidance,  the support, the accountability, the care - that is becoming priceless.

I tell many clients the same thing: imagine your service as a product you’ve invented

Be obsessed, be thorough, refine every step, polish every interaction. Know the mechanics inside out.

Then explain it simply, so people can understand it in seconds.

A  paradox yes

But when you explain it, make it simple, fast and tangible, something prospects can picture, touch, and feel. 

Describe it like you’re speaking to an 11-year-old.


Too much detail creates confusion. Clarity creates trust.

We all have competitors,  every single one of us...  

 

Your potential clients always have choices: A, B, C, or D at the very least.

So when I work with clients, the first thing we get clear on is why someone would pay attention to them in the first place.

What sparks interest? What makes someone stop scrolling, lean in, and think, “Tell me more”?

Once we identify that, the next step is turning attention into revenue. That’s where most people get stuck — not because they lack skill, but because they lack a structure that moves someone from curious… to convinced… to client.

So I help them build that framework.

The messaging, the positioning, the offer structure, the simple steps that guide a prospect from first contact to paid engagement.

When this is in place, competition matters a lot less. Now you’re the option that makes the most sense.

 

Why should your target client pay attention to you, let alone give you their money?

Are you a knowledge-based business?


Do you sell your insight, expertise, and experience?

Early in the journey, when inbound is slow and referrals aren’t consistent, one thing matters more than anything:

Positioning.

You might be able to help people in 20 different ways…

…but what are you going to lead with?

Think about it:

If you had a problem with your foot, would you rather see a GP,

or the foot specialist?

Exactly.

People want certainty.

They buy from the person who clearly knows this problem better than anyone else.

It may feel counterintuitive, but in a noisy market, the specialist always wins.

 

Who do you help the most? What problem do you solve best? And how will you position yourself as the specialist they trust?

Everyone around you says, “This is fantastic, it will work!”.....



A great idea, a clever angle, a solid product or service.


Your partner thinks it’s great. Your friends think it’s great. You think it’s great.

But these are all assumptions.

We all make them.

The only real judge is the market.

 The market is the final arbiter.

And this is why I push my clients to test, measure, and gather real feedback. Not the polite feedback you get from people who care about you — the honest, sometimes brutal truth that only paying customers will give you.

That truth gives you the clarity to refine, iterate, and improve. It shows you what actually creates value, not what you hoped would create value. It helps you build something customers genuinely want and need.

So yes, we can all make assumptions — you, me, everyone.


But the market decides. 

And that’s exactly why understanding your customer inside out is everything.

It’s like a silent momentum that builds and builds until—boom—it all comes flooding in.

 And yes, it can feel overwhelming. New problems, new challenges, new decisions.
But these are the best problems to have.

What is the real problem you solve, how important it is in your customer’s life and what would people actually do if your product or service didn’t exist?

I help my clients see where the real opportunity is in their market. Make the solution so clear and so necessary that it cuts straight through the noise.

And for smaller businesses or startups, I guide them to the spaces the big players avoid. The niches, the flexible models, the things the giants can’t or won’t do. That’s where their competitive edge usually sits.

If your fridge breaks down, would you call a general electronics expert or someone who specialises in fridges? Who inspires more confidence? Who do you trust more?

It’s exactly the same for your business. 

You might be able to do many things, but clients place their trust in specialists; people  solve a specific problem exceptionally well.


Explore three things to define your specialist area: experience, track record, and what you  enjoy doing. Then position. Always from the perspective of what your customers truly want and need.

 Clients stop guessing, prospects feel confident and business grows in a way that’s predictable, scalable and rewarding.
