Fast forward a decade, and, through my business Stream Accounting, I have been able to work 100s of small business owners with their bookkeeping and accounts needs. Growing our team has meant that I am focusing my time with helping the business succeed, while spending quality time with my young family.

Growing up, my dad was always working.

He consulted for others and ran his own tax practice here in the UK and didn’t officially retire until he was 76 years old! But long before that, I saw the toll it took - not just on him, but on all of our family.

We’d go on holiday, and it would take him four days to wind down. Then a day later, he’d start winding back up knowing he had to go back to work. I remember Christmases filled with tension, not because we didn’t love each other, but because tax season was looming and dad had to go to the office asap. 

He worked hard. He was brilliant. And his clients adored him.

But his work was relentless.

What is worse is he never got paid the true value he brought to the table. 

That experience stayed with me. And it sparked something bigger.

I started to notice that my dad’s story wasn’t unique - it was the story of thousands of accountants and bookkeepers. Smart, capable people drowning in client work, stuck in a time-for-money trap, and quietly burning out behind the scenes.

And the more I worked with the profession, the more I saw another painful truth: while accountants were stuck in the weeds, business owners were going under (half of all businesses were going out of business within 5 years). 

Not because they were lazy. Not because they didn’t care.
But because they never got the strategic financial advice they needed to survive.

Make it a 45-minute call.

Come on folks - this isn’t rocket science.

I used to be envious of the people who wrote LinkedIn posts that hit 100,000 impressions or more with every post they did. 

You probably follow these folks and watch from the sidelines as they effortlessly snap selfies in their favourite coffee shops, walk their dogs without their hair going super frizzy in the UK rain...  or share deep thoughts from the gym looking like Gods and Goddesses.

Meanwhile, I’ve always found it really hard to share my personal life online. So instead, for the past 13 years, I’ve simply shown up every week to give value and teach my learnings, share my insights and stay in my lane. 
Always talking about what I know best.

For a while, LinkedIn didn’t love that approach. In fact, it penalised me for being so "boring". But lately, things have shifted.

While the “LinkedIn gurus” are saying reach is down and it's harder than ever to get traction, I’m seeing the opposite.

I haven’t changed a thing. No algorithm hacks. No trending audio. No dancing on reels becuase Linkedin likes short vertical videos (Gosh I hate reels sooooo much). 

Just consistent posts around the same message, year in, year out. Live videos that last 15-20 mins and long form articles and posts that educate around becoming a world-class business advisor and getting premium clients. 

You see, marketing gimmicks come and go. However, to attract business owners who are willing to pay well for your advice, you must consistently demonstrate your expertise and educate people on why they should trust you.

So even though I didn't play the algorithm game, the right people saw my posts. I think almost every client I have has said to me they have been following me on LinkedIn for years (but they have never commented or liked my posts, just read them). 

So if you’ve ever thought LinkedIn “just isn’t for you”…
Forget the trends. Forget the noise.
Your expertise is enough.

Keep showing up, keep teaching, and your audience will find you, especially now, as LinkedIn starts rewarding depth of knowledge over drama lamas.  

The long game is finally paying off. Yippeee! And thank you LinkedIn for focusing on what is important.

The most exciting advisory firms of the next decade won’t be built inside large, traditional practices.

AI has smashed it apart completely.

The new model looks more like this:

1️⃣ What outcome does the client actually need?
2️⃣ Can AI automate or accelerate the grunt work?
3️⃣ If not, how do we deliver advice in a way that maximises our expertise, not our exhaustion?

This isn’t about replacing accountants.

It’s about finally getting honest about what truly requires your judgment, your experience, your thinking - and what doesn’t.

Yes, AI can categorise transactions, draft a management report, prepare cash flow visuals, or build a proposal.

But only you can interpret the numbers in a way that makes a business owner breathe again.

Yes, AI can summarise data, highlight anomalies, and prepare insights.

But only you can turn those insights into clarity, confidence, and action.

And that is where the real value of advisory lives.

The firms that lean into this mindset will build leaner, stronger, more profitable practices.

Not because they are cutting corners, but because they are cutting waste.

Cutting chaos.

Cutting the 9pm guilt, the scope creep suffocation, the constant firefighting, the panic of “how do I get ahead when I’m barely keeping up?”

They’ll use AI to eliminate the tasks that drain them, while focusing their human energy on the parts clients actually pay for - clarity, leadership, perspective, and peace of mind.

Legacy firms will struggle.

They’re anchored to old norms, old workflows, old pricing, old expectations.

They still believe more staff fixes everything.

They’re still trapped in compliance cycles that swallow their days and their souls.

But you?

You can rewrite the rulebook in real time.

You can design a practice where AI handles the heavy lifting so you can reclaim your evenings.
