In conjunction with our clients, we will manage, maintain and control the internal accounts function of a business.

We are responsible for:

- keeping accurate records for tax purposes
- creating invoices to send to customers and automate bills processing
- controlling accounts receivable and payable 
- managing payroll, lodging Activity Statements (BAS & IAS) and 
- assisting with management of budgets and cash flow projections

We aim to provide a full service internal accounts function that is normally only provided to large business.

My business journey started when I was in my mid 20's. I was attempting to make a cricket career take off and while I was doing so, I started working with small businesses who needed help with their bookkeeping.

Fast forward a decade, and, through my business Stream Accounting, I have been able to work 100s of small business owners with their bookkeeping and accounts needs. Growing our team has meant that I am focusing my time with helping the business succeed, while spending quality time with my young family.

In my role as a Guest Lecturer in Positive Psychology at Bond University, I partner with Dr Megan Lee to provide students in the Positive Wellbeing program with a range of evidence based tools, concepts, and strategies.

These tools, concepts, and strategies are selected for the dual purpose of strengthening personal wellbeing amongst the students, as well as enhancing their understanding of Positive Psychology principles.

During my 6-month contract with the Learning, Leadership, and Culture (LLC) team, I delivered key outcomes that advanced organisational learning and culture:

1. Future of Banking Research: Conducted a comprehensive study identifying predicted skills gaps and people challenges within the banking sector over the next 5–10 years.

2. Curriculum Development: Designed a company-wide learning initiative to elevate decision-making through both data- and culture-driven approaches.

3. Evaluation Framework: Created a signature learning evaluation framework to assess the effectiveness, engagement, and enjoyability of development programs, helping the LLC team refine or retire initiatives based on data.

I also contributed to several impactful working groups, including:

1. Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity: Supported the development of the organisation's 'Belonging Roadmap and Strategy.'

2. Meaningful People Data: Helped establish improved processes for capturing and utilising employee data on cultural backgrounds, identities, and experiences.

3. Employee Value Proposition (EVP): Collaborated with the talent team to design and deliver focus groups gathering feedback on the EVP, enhancing the organisation’s positioning as an employer of choice.

4. Learning Activation: Developed strategies to boost employee engagement and utilisation of available learning programs.

These projects collectively strengthened the organisation’s culture, learning capabilities, and employee experience.

I have spent my career studying how people and workplaces can be happier.

If I could summarise everything I've learned into only 2 statements it would be these:

1. Happiness matters
2. Happiness is a skill

Allow me to explain:

Too often, people and workplaces, focus on success - often at the expense of their happiness.

They fall into the trap of believing that they will be happy when they achieve (insert any goal here) but all this leads to is chronic mental health challenges, high levels of burnout, decreasing job satisfaction, and (ironically) a reduced sense of success.

When we flip the script and start prioritising happiness then a positive ripple effect spreads:

We become better partners, better leaders, better colleagues, better friends, and better people when we're happy and well compared to when we're stressed, burnt out, and overwhelmed. 

And workplaces benefit too with outcomes including higher engagement, improved customer service, increased revenue and profits, and the ability to be positioned as an employer of choice.

Now onto the second statement, and the good news:

Happiness is a skill.

That means with the right training, resources, and support it can be grown.

Since 2017 this is what myself and my team at BU Happiness College have been doing - growing global happiness by helping individuals and organisations better measure, understand, and improve their mental and emotional wellbeing.

Over that time we have won numerous awards including:
- Social Enterprise of the Year 2020
- United Nations SDG Champion of 2022

I've also been included in publications such as Psychology Today, the Harvard Business Review, and Thrive Global.

Most importantly, I'm grateful to have created a movement that delivers results such as:
- Increasing our members happiness by an average of 57% within their first 12 months at BU Happiness College
- Helping workplaces to stand out in their field as an employer of choice by becoming an Accredited Happy Workplace.
