Most CQV delays aren’t technical failures.
They’re scheduling failures.

I’ve seen $2M+ projects sit idle because no one planned for CQV upfront.

Here’s what gets missed…

→ Document generation and review cycles
→ Execution windows and resource availability
→ Final report approvals

The 3 mistakes that kill timelines:

1. Late involvement

▪️Validation gets looped in after equipment is ordered.
▪️Now you’re retrofitting requirements instead of building them in.

2. No clear definition of “done”

▪️When is equipment qualified? When is the area validated? When can production start?
▪️Without defined acceptance criteria, you’ll debate this at the finish line.

3. Incomplete turnover packages

▪️Engineering hands off equipment without:
→ Calibration records
→ As-built drawings
→ Vendor documentation
▪️Now validation is chasing paperwork instead of executing.

The fix: CQV isn’t a phase at the end.

It’s a workstream that runs parallel to your entire project.

→ Budget for it. 
→ Schedule for it. 
→ Staff for it.

If you’re making these mistakes right now, you’ve got two choices:

1️⃣ Keep hoping the next project goes better (it won’t).
2️⃣ Or bring in someone who’s done this 1,000+ times.

Quality isn’t supposed to clean up everyone else’s problems.

Yet that’s exactly what happens.

If QA is discovering the issues, the process already failed.

Quality shouldn’t be the first to find the problem.

They should be the last.

Good systems make QA a confirmation step — not a rescue operation.

When QA is constantly firefighting, you don’t have a quality problem.

You have a process problem.

•Proposing new Classifications and Intervals for instruments using a Risk-Based Approach, Subject Matter Expertise and Statistical Methods.
•Streamlining and optimizing the business processes and calibration practices.
•Carrying out all technical data reviews and entry on the system. 
•Chair meetings with Engineering, Asset Owners and Quality to obtain agreement on all newly assigned classifications & intervals. 
•Performing continuous stress-testing of the CCMS and calibration data in accordance with the divisional methodologies.
•Implementing a paperless calibration solution.
•Writing, leading, and executing all required site change control initiatives.

Project Manager

Contractor at Global Foundries (LotusWorks USA)

•Performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of process equipment on Ultra-Pure Water and Waste Water Treatment Systems.
•Calibration and verification of instrumentation such as pH, conductivity, fluoride monitors, temperature, pressure. 
•Performing rounds and taking readings to maintain, update, and validate all data base systems
used to collect data and operate UPW and WWT systems.
•Operating the distributive control system (DCS) to interpret and respond to a wide variety of situations and alarm conditions.
•RCRA trained to oversee and monitor chemical offloads for chemicals such as Sodium Hydroxide, Hydrochloric Acid and Calcium Chloride, as well as assisting in the removal of bins containing hazardous waste.

UPW/WWT Facilities Technician

Contractor at Vistakon (Hanley Calibration)

• Scheduling and performing instrument calibration.
• Management of all 3rd party calibrations (on & off site) - Sourcing vendors, review and management of calibration documentation submitted by vendors for approval.
• Maintaining database of all calibrated instruments on site.
• Determining instrument requirements, developing and maintaining calibration procedures and ensuring that appropriate calibration standards and supplies are maintained.
• Developing and maintaining accurate database, documentation and history files on all calibrated
instruments.
• Supporting 7 day, 24 hr manufacturing operations.
• Supporting Internal and external audits carried out in area.
• Ensuring effective closure on Quality System documents (Audit Actions, Cal NCR’s, CAPA’s etc) on calibration system.
• Actively participating in cross-functional teams to provide instrument calibration support on New
Product Introduction/Research and Development projects.

Instrumentation Technician

Contractor at Stryker Orthopaedics (Lotus Technical Services)

• Calibrations performed as per monthly schedule on ‘Inspection / Gauging equipment’ (micrometers, calipers, co-ordinate measuring machines, surface roughness testers, air gauging etc.) & ‘Process / Facilities’ calibrations (temperature, pressure, speed, pH, conductivity, weighing scales, humidity, timers etc.)
• Management of all 3rd party calibrations (on & off site) - Sourcing vendors, review and management of calibration documentation submitted by vendors for approval.
• Adhering to GMP and all other regulations of the FDA i.e. implementing a strong quality management system, completion of documentation, establishing robust SOPs, investigating calibration non conformances.
• Aligning scheduled calibration with maintenance work, reducing overall impact on production.
• Purchasing spare parts and ensuring stock levels of all spare parts are kept to specified quantities.
• Audit Preparation - successfully assisting Stryker Orthopaedics through multiple F.D.A. & B.S.I. audits.

Calibration Technician / Metrologist

• Liasing with calibration vendors to organise on-site and off-site calibrations.
• Obtaining quotes and arranging P.O.’s for all instruments that were required to be sent offsite for calibration.
• Attended a “Dimensional Training Course” in the National Metrology Laboratory.
• Conducting dimensional calibrations e.g. Plug gauges, thread gauges, ring gauges.
