Early in my career, I thought I had everything figured out.

I believed the path I was on was the one I would follow forever.

Life has a way of giving you moments of clarity when you least expect them.

One of those moments happened when I took a year off college and worked as an EMT.

I remember getting back from an emergency run one day and realizing, very clearly, that this wasn’t what I was meant to do forever. That realization pushed me to go back to school.

Years later, I had a very similar moment.

At the time, I was working at a large insurance company. On paper, everything looked right. The career path was there. The opportunity was there.

Something still felt off.

The feeling was almost identical to the one I had years earlier.

This wasn’t it.

Moments like that come with uncertainty and a lot of questions about what comes next.

Eventually, I found my own way. Truth be told, I’m happier than I’ve ever been.

One thing I’ve learned along the way is to stay appreciative of the experiences you’ve had—even the ones that take you somewhere different than you expected or that you might look back on a little differently now. Every chapter teaches you something and shapes who you become.

Over time, I have had the chance to talk with many people—especially financial planners—who have experienced something similar. Many of them felt stuck or unfulfilled in one chapter of their careers before eventually finding something that aligned much better with who they are.

Every once in a while, I like to share a small PSA.
