I develop an effective content strategy for Startups.be and gather insights about the Belgian tech ecosystem from our growing dataset. I also focus on community building and on international relations for the non-profit, and I am in charge of our ‘Go Global’ economic startup missions to the Anglo-Saxon, Asian and African markets.

As 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵, I assist Belgian startups and scale-ups in their development by offering practical tools and expertise, with an emphasis on internationalization. I collect data on the Belgian tech ecosystem to better understand and support its dynamics and growth.

I manage several key projects at 𝗔𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮, including:

• 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗽 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: A comprehensive guidance program for scale-ups, organized by Agoria, Vlerick Business School and Sirris, supported by the Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship Agency (VLAIO).
• 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘂𝗽 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹: An EFRO project designed to help scale-ups develop global strategies.
• 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀: A program focused on the internationalization of Brussels-based scale-ups, in close collaboration with hub.brussels. 
• 𝗙𝗜𝗧 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: An international CV program in partnership with Startup Flanders (FIT) and Plug & Play, that involves corporates launching biannual open calls for specific challenges. 

I spearhead open innovation and business development initiatives, recognizing the growing importance of collaborations between established and young companies. I also organize international inspiration missions for Agoria and advocate for positioning Belgium as a tech hotspot.
 
Before joining Agoria, I served as the Director of International Relations at 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀.𝗯𝗲 and 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲-𝗨𝗽𝘀.𝗲𝘂. In these roles, I focused on creating global connections for Belgian startups and promoting the #betech message internationally. I led Go Global economic missions to various markets (USA, UK, China, Singapore, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Portugal, France, Sweden, Estonia, Rwanda, etc.) and managed European Horizon 2020 projects, including MyGateway and Speed/Interreg.
 
As Content Director, I developed a content strategy for Startups.be, gathered insights about the #betech ecosystem, and built a strong brand for the non-profit both in Belgium and abroad.

My career began as a journalist for the Belgian financial daily 𝗗𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝗷𝗱, where I covered the media sector and later tech, marketing, and management. Concurrently, I wrote for 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, a local HR-oriented weekly. 

From 2007 to 2016, I worked as an editor and later as the coordinating editor for 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀, Belgium’s leading ICT mag, focusing on business topics, start-ups, domain name news, IoT, mobile, AI, and data. I also contributed tech-related articles to Knack and Trends, Belgium's foremost news magazines.

A week ago, Julie and I took 60 Belgian business leaders and entrepreneurs to Shenzhen and Taipei on behalf of Agoria. Two very different worlds, yet both global powerhouses in hardware, the low-altitude economy, (humanoid) robotics, EVs, AI and semiconductors.

China now leads in almost 60 of the 65 key tech domains. Give it a bit more time and they won’t be following anyone anymore. That’s what happens when long-term vision meets fast execution and a fully integrated ecosystem with the entire supply chain in one place.

What I enjoyed most was watching perspectives shift throughout the week. Seeing participants realise that technologies we still discuss in theory are already fully operational there, and noticing how their entire view of China changed as abstract ideas made way for lived reality:

☕️ A coffee delivered by drone ten minutes after ordering.
🤖 Humanoid robots, often dismissed in Europe, being deployed as we speak to counter a shrinking workforce.
⚙️ AI embedded everywhere: in production lines, edge devices and real-time decision-making.
🚗 A radically different automotive logic: batteries and software at the core, everything else essentially a marketing layer. If you want to, you can have your 'own' car designed and built within months.

Taiwan impressed just as much. Companies like TSMC quietly produce over 90% of the world’s most advanced chips. And then there’s Foxconn, responsible for assembling a staggering 40% of all consumer tech devices globally. Taiwanese companies don’t shout the loudest, yet they build firms that dominate entire sectors. Admirable, and a reminder not to underestimate them for a second.

Another clear message: neither Mainland China nor Taiwan want to shut Europe out. They reach out, want to collaborate, build bridges and secure a foothold here. Global expansion has become part of their DNA. They’ll keep trying, and we should engage where it makes sense.

All of this made the speed, scale and ambition incredibly tangible. Yes, there are some important - at times even daunting - considerations. But looking away won’t help us. Learning, adapting and collaborating where possible will.

If this mission helped shift perspectives even a little, it was absolutely worth it. Because if we keep our blinders on, we risk walking into a few new Nokia-scenarios in Europe. It’s not too late, but it is time to move.

Asia isn’t waiting for Europe. The question is if we’re ready to keep up. 🗯️
