Understanding that context can help, but awareness doesn’t resolve the problem on its own. We have to adapt.

The core of this work is reclaiming capacity through deliberate attention to our time, energy, and attention. Not as another productivity hack, but as a way to interrupt deep patterns of self-betrayal and distraction, and regain agency over how we live and work.

I spent 13 years in big tech and more than a decade as an entrepreneur, thriving through reorgs, layoffs, pivots, bubbles, crashes and volatility inside and out. 

I've learned the real risk isn’t falling behind...

It’s staying "busy" on autopilot while slowly losing contact with who you are.

One of the most important things I've done for my business and wellbeing in the last few years is setting up my routines and schedule to allow for more spaciousness and connection with myself first, before I take in input from the outside world. 

For me that looks like slow ramp into my days and weeks where possible.
 - No meetings before 9am PT. 
- No touching my phone first thing in the morning.
- No touching my phone the last thing before I go to bed. 
- No meeting Mondays and Fridays
- No meetings after 5pm PT.

That gives me an opportunity to fill my cup, ground myself and get clear about what's more important during the week that needs my attention. 
 
This also requires me to be ruthlessly and compassionately efficient with the rest of my week. 

Tuesday to Thursday are full of coaching calls, sales calls, partnership calls. 

That leaves Monday and Friday (and some weekends) for heads down creative, strategic or business development work. 

Those constraints don't leave a lot of room for distraction. 
It makes it easier to say no to things that aren't urgent and important. 
It makes it easier to bring my attention back on track when i notice myself getting distracted. 

I know not everyone has the luxury of adjusting their schedules in these ways, but we all have minutes and usually hours in our day that is frittered away by distraction, inputs and demands on our energy that aren't urgent or important. 

Curiosity around those moments is the first step. 

Notice how it feels to be immediately pulled into an algorithmic feed, the news, social media, or your inbox first thing in the morning.

Take 5 minutes today without that. Notice what it feels like to be present with you own experience instead. 

You could start and end your day like this for a few days this week and notice is anything shifts for you.

1️⃣𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘀 (𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗦𝗼 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁?" 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱): Most people list tasks. Leaders list results.

🔹𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸: "I reorganized the shared drive."
🔸𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: "Reduced team search time by 20%."

2️⃣The Roadblocks (The "Ask")

🔹"I need a decision on X to move forward with Y."

This shifts the dynamic immediately.

(🚩𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀) You go from "needing attention" to "providing data." You create a paper trail that makes saying "no" to your promotion incredibly difficult.

Reliability gets you a paycheck. Visibility gets you a promotion.

They think this adds value. But in 2026, it just adds clutter, and your boss is already 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 in clutter.

If you want to demonstrate that you're 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, you don't add complexity. You manufacture clarity.

🚩(𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆) → You must become a "𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿."

𝗧𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀: Find a conversation today (Slack, Teams, or Email) that is spiraling. 5+ messages. Conflicting opinions. No clear next step.

Don't add another opinion. Step in and end the chaos.

𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝟯-𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸:

1️⃣ 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 
↳ "Great context here everyone." 

2️⃣ 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 
↳ "It looks like we agree on [A], but we are stuck on [B]."

↳ "To move forward, I propose we do [C]. Any objections?"

That’s it.

The amateur tries to win the argument. 
The leader tries to move the business forward.

Be the clarity, not the clutter.
