OpenAI is launching ads in ChatGPT.

Last year, Sam Altman called this a "last resort" and said the idea was "uniquely unsettling."

Now it's official.

Here's what we know 👇

The rollout starts in the coming weeks for US users on the free tier and the new ChatGPT Go plan (Plus and Pro users won't see ads)

Ads will appear at the bottom of ChatGPT's answers, clearly labeled and separated from the response.

OpenAI says:

>they won't sell user data to advertisers
>no ads on sensitive topics (health, mental health, politics)

Why now?

ChatGPT has close to 1b weekly active users. Only 5% pay.

They need new revenue streams to make the numbers add up.

But here's what most marketers are overlooking: This isn't just another ad platform. It's the "dawn of AI Advertising", and it will evolve rapidly.

The Information reports OpenAI is already testing:
•sponsored content inside answers (e.g., product recommendations)
•sponsored modules beside the main reply
•interactive ads where users can ask questions about products directly

Instead of clicking a static ad, imagine having a conversation with it.

Brands now have two ways to achieve AI visibility:
