I did this. 

And I regret it:

Between 23-26, I was broke AF.

Single.

Shredded with 8% body fat.

Had like 2 friends who I only saw at the gym.

Lived in a dumpster box studio apartment that cost $800/mo in Chicago.

Barely dated, and whenever I’d start to build a relationship I’d break it off and say:

“I have to grind.”

Literally.

• Up at 6am to commute an hour to work
• Home at 7pm
• Gym until 9pm
• Worked on my writing (my dream) until midnight

Repeat 5 days per week.

And I also wrote every weekend for 5-8 hours Sat & Sun. 

I never celebrated a holiday.

I went to 1 Halloween party one year, and a music festival one summer for a day. 

And that was pretty much it. 

But then I met my now-wife when I was 26.

And it’s shocking (almost sad) how much more effective I am with her compared to when I was single. 

I became way more disciplined, yet somehow more balanced.

More well-rounded. 

I became more mature, more thoughtful.

Which allowed me to:

• Meet smarter mentors
• Connect with higher-quality people
• Become more successful a lot faster

I became more cultured.

More knowledgeable about the world:

• I traveled
• I tried new foods
• I prioritized new experiences

I became rich in so many more ways than just money (but also including money) by being with her. 

And the same is true for every mega-successful person I know.

They all love their partners because their partners make them better, more capable leaders. 

I don’t have many regrets in life.

But looking back, I do wish I had allowed myself to enjoy my 20s a bit more.

I don’t think 20% more “fun” would have changed my trajectory all that much.

Maybe my ghostwriting agency wouldn't have scaled from $0 to $3,000,000 in less than 18 months.

Maybe if I had more "fun" it would've taken longer.

But I’ll never be that age again.

And one day you won’t either. 

So yes, set big goals and work like an abandoned dog to achieve them. 

AND… soak up being a young adult. 

You’ll blink, and it’ll be over.

When I met my now-wife at 26, I was making $20,000/mo ghostwriting for a handful of clients.

And none of them cared if I only spent 20 hours working per week.

Plenty of money for "fun" and the time to enjoy it.

And here is the secret technique he used to become a legendary writer:

The Iceberg Theory.

At its core, this is a simple "Show, Don't Tell" technique:

1. Avoid excessive backstory

Hint at characters' pasts through brief flashbacks or dialogue.

2. Use sensory details sparingly

A few vivid descriptions can set the scene.

3. Trim the fat

Cut any:

• Word
• Scene
• Or sentence

That doesn't serve the story.

Simple, but super effective.

I'm 35.

Some advice I wish I'd known in my 20s:

Life moves in seasons.

Some seasons are about work.

Other seasons are about:

• Travel
• Or spirituality
• Or family and friends

And I've learned the worst thing you can do is be in 1 season of your life, but wish for/expect the benefits of a different season.

Don't.

It doesn't work that way. 

Whatever season of life you're in, radically accept it.

Lean into it.

Know it won't last forever, and soak up as much about that particular season as you can. 

Because once it's over, you will miss things about it.

Things you're taking for granted, or complaining about, right now.

For example:

My college writing professor told me I'd never make $1M as a writer.

Neil started in journalism:

• He got his start at The Village Voice
• Then landed a column at The New York Times

It was here he wrote a major cover on Marilyn Manson.

This created a new (and overlooked) opportunity for Strauss—ghostwriting books for world-famous celebrities.

Over the years, he co-wrote these bestsellers:

Meanwhile, the journalism industry collapsed.

I'm a pro writer.

Over the last 10 years, I have:

• Written 1 novel
• 10 non-fiction books
• 2,000+ thought-leadership articles

And more.

All this taught me 1 very important lesson:

Great writing doesn't come from "natural-born talent."

It comes from simple, repeatable techniques.

Use these 6 tiny (but powerful) tips to write great sentences:

1. Make the last word the most impactful

Here's an example:

"Do you know who the president is?"

This is a weak sentence because it ends with an insignificant word (is).

A more powerful sentence would be:

"Do you know the name of the president?"

2. Be economical with your words

Here's an example:

"Seven ways you can start to make more money your first year out of college by starting to write online."

This sentence has a lot of inefficiencies.

Multiple words are saying the same thing.

A more economical version would be:

"Seven ways to make money writing online as a new college graduate."

Same message, half the time.

3. Vary repeated words

You can repeat an idea without sounding repetitive by changing the word.

Here's an example:

"We pulled into the parking lot of the ice arena. I said it's been forever since I stepped foot in an ice arena."

You're saying "ice arena" twice.

Which sounds redundant.

A better version would be:

"We pulled into the parking lot of the ice arena. I said it's been forever since I stepped foot in a rink."

Just by changing the word, it immediately sounds stronger.

4. Only use one advanced word per sentence

Most people read at a 4th grade reading level.

So, when you're using a word most people don't know, it feels like a fun challenge.

But if every word is advanced, your writing becomes unreadable.

Here's an example:

"With all those weird clothes on, he looked crazy, like he'd lost his mind."

You can make this more interesting by swapping out one word:

"With all those weird clothes on, he looked preposterous."

Just like that, your writing is more fun & engaging.

(Without being inaccessible.)

5. Two comma max per sentence

Most sentences should only have a maximum of two commas.

The "valley of death" is when a sentence has three to six commas.

Anything above two means you're rambling.

And you (probably) don't know what you're actually trying to say.

6. Cut the adverbs

Hemingway always adverbs "lazy writing."

Now, using an adverb here or there is perfectly fine.

The problem?

Using too many.

Because the function of an adverb is usually saying the same thing you're already saying, just "more" or "a little bit better."

So, your writing would be much cleaner (and more succinct) without them.

It's just hours. 

And I hate to tell you this:

But anything you want in life, unless constrained by biology, is a fixed number of hours away. 

The problem is:

1. The number is unknown

2. And it's usually much higher than you want it to be

But when you start tackling tasks to reach your goal, you face a new set of problems:

The tasks aren't hard, they're just tedious.

The tasks don't take "hours," they take minutes (if not seconds). 

The tasks aren't confusing, they just require you to think for 1 whole minute.

So, stop distracting yourself, focus, and get to work.

By the way, I got PAID to practice my writing for hours on end as a ghostwriter.

In 2025, my 100% remote company hit $8,000,000.

But in 2026, we have a bigger goal:

To hit $1,000,000 for 3 consecutive months.

And I'm always asked how to create a championship-winning culture.

Here are 7 ways:

1. Create custom emojis, each one tied to a different company core value.

We use these emojis in Slack to reinforce positive attributes people exemplify on the team. 

2. Full team all-hands 1x per month.

In these meetings we:

• Share high-level priorities
• Recap past month's performance across all departments
• Leave time for team members to give "shout outs" to other team members

These "shout outs" are for, again, embodying 1 of our core values as a company (public reinforcement).

3. Transparency around numbers.

On our all-hands, we share the total business revenue and revenue by vertical.

We also share overhead costs & ad spend.

This allows us to celebrate new department or company-wide revenue milestones together.

This fosters a culture of realizing "money doesn't grow on trees" and that each person needs to perform for the biz to be healthy.

4. Default no meetings.

Departments can decide how often they want to meet, otherwise:

• First, clear culture of communicating with clearly written Slack text
• Second, Loom video communication
• Third, live calls (as needed)

5. Give team members access to different department's Slack channels.

So even if they're not involved, they can follow along and see what other people are working on.

6. In-person event once per year.

This was easier when the team was smaller (<10 people).

Harder now with 30+ people, but 1x per year we try to get everyone together in-person for a 2-3 day event.

We don't do any "digital happy hours" or have a "memes channel" in Slack.

Not that these things are bad or anything, I've just found these types of things don't actually make people fulfilled.

7. Flexible working

• We give people unlimited vacation/sick days (within reason)
• We're understanding if someone with kids needs to log off early for the day

The only metric we care about is that people get their work done, and do it at a world-class level.

📌 People just care about 3 things:

• Doing great work
• Acquiring new skills & self-improvement
• Having the freedom to live their own lives

And the easiest way to unlock these for yourself?

Start ghostwriting.

As a ghostwriter, I hit $20,000/mo while only working for a handful of clients. None of them cared if I only spent 20 hours working per week.

And right now, ghostwriting is the easiest way to make money on LinkedIn.

I don't believe I was born a talented writer.

But that didn't stop me from writing:

• 11 non-fiction books
• My 1st fiction novel

Instead, my superpower is my work ethic.

It's a collection of different skills.

Some that come to mind are:

• Story Seed: The “elevator pitch” and premise of the story
• Outlining: The beat-by-beat arc of the story
• Worldbuilding: The world in which the story is set
• Character Development: The main characters of the story
• Pacing: The story’s rate of revelation
• Narrative Voice: The tone and style of the narrator
• Word Choice: The nuances of the story’s literary style

Un RH qui parle finance est 10x plus crédible

Il m’a tout partagé sur comment allier RH et finance
Et j'ai énormément appris !

𝗣𝗿𝗲́𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘇-𝘃𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗮̀ 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲 :

→ Comment parler à son DAF quand on est RH
→ Quelles métriques précises suivre quand on est RH

Je n'avais jamais entendu ces pratiques avant
Il fallait un animal rare comme Vincent pour cela

Votre super commercial est devenu un mauvais manager ? 
C'est le principe de plafond d'incompétence de Peter
(Mais vu qu'il date de 1969 on va le débunker ici 👇)

Chaque employé est promu jusqu'à son seuil d'incompétence
Quand il devient trop mauvais pour être promu il stagne
Résultat : des managers nuls à chaque étage

Ultra rupturiste en 1969 
Qu'en penser en 2026 ? 

En 2019 des chercheurs suivent la carrière de 38 843 commerciaux dans 131 entreprises. 1 553 ont été promus pendant l'étude :

→ Le top 20% des bizdev a 3x plus de chances d'êtres promu
→ Après promotion, la performance de l'équipe chute de 7,5%

Les meilleurs commerciaux sont les plus mauvais managers

Ok mais quel est l'impact d'un bon manager d'après l'étude ? 
KPI à +31% quand l'équipe est gérée par un bon manager

La VAR est formelle : 1-0 pour le principe de Peter

Pas si vite : Harvard Business Review nuance cela en 2018 

Le principe de Peter vient d'une décision organisationnelle : 
Récompenser les meilleurs par une promotion est un choix

L'étude de HBR y oppose le modèle "Pay for Performance"
Ces entreprises récompensent les top performeurs en €€€
Et ceux qui veulent manager postulent au job de manager

C'est toute la magie des carrières "dual track"
On peut gagner en salaire et en prestige de 2 manière
Soit en devenant manager. Soit en devenant un expert.

HBR pointe aussi un autre angle mort du principe de Peter :
Le seuil d'incompétence des managers n'est pas une fatalité
La compétence s'aquiert par la formation. Tout simplement

Google. L'Oréal. Danone. Coca-Cola. 
Qu'ont en commun les maîtres de l'excellence managériale ?

→ Un budget formation colossal 
→ Des gestions de carrières au cordeau 
→ Des académies internes sur-développées

On ne vous nommera pas manager pour vous récompenser
On ne vous laissera pas devenir incompétent

Le modèle de Peter s'est trompé
Le seuil d'incompétence ne vient pas des individus
Il est créé par un système de promotion défaillant

Manager : a 80% de son équipe en pré-burnout. Est lui-même au bord du gouffre. Devrait virer une diva qui fait n'importe quoi mais n'a personne pour la remplacer.  A 13 direct reports. A réussi à atteindre les objectifs 2025 de justesse en y laissant sa santé et, du coup, voit les objectifs 2026 augmenté de 20%. N'a pas le droit de recruter plus car "2026 est l'année de la rentabilité". 

Dirigeant : J'ai lu Miracle Morning c'est un vrai concentré de leadership ! J'en ai envoyé une copie à chacun d'entre vous pour attaquer 2026 avec le bon mindset. 

Non.

En 1959 ce mec prouve que les augmentations sont inutiles
Le plus stupéfiant : 67 ans après il a toujours raison

En 1959 Frederick Herzberg publie The Motivation to Work

Il analyse les facteurs motivationnels au travail
Sa théorie est qu'ils se repartissent en 2 familles 

Les facteurs d'Hygiène qui évitent l'insatisfaction : 
Salaire. Avantages. Sécurité de l'emploi. Temps de trajet. 

Les facteurs de Motivation qui créent l'engagement :
Autonomie. Reconnaissance. Sens du travail. Management. 

C'est une révolution conceptuelle
On comprend l'inefficacité de certaines méthodes
Et on découvre de nouvelles approches bien + efficaces

Est-ce qu'augmenter ses salariés les motive ? 
Jusqu'à un certain point cela réduit l'insatisfaction
Passé le sentiment de satisfaction c'est inutile & paresseux 

Inutile car vous ne créerez pas de motivation ex-nihilo
Vous ne pouvez pas acheter de l'engagement avec des €

Paresseux car c'est rêver de la voie facile
Un potentiel de motivation existe mais il faut le construire

Tous vos salariés sont satisfaits de leur salaire ? 
Alors prenez le budget augmentation de l'année et avec :

→ Formez vos managers pour qu'ils sachent comment déclencher dans leurs équipes la motivation profonde et sincère qui ne demande qu'à s'exprimer

Ce n'est pas le chemin le plus simple
Mais c'est celui qui marche

On le sait depuis 1959

Je suis coach depuis 2018 et je suis allé voir Gourou hier
Brulot anti-coaching mensonger ou vérité qui dérange ? 

Depuis 2018 j'ai coaché plus de 100 dirigeants
J'adore Boîte Noire & Pierre Niney me fait rire
Bref : j'y suis allé sans aucun a priori 

Alors que puis-je vous dire sur le film (sans vous spoiler) ? 

𝟏- 𝐋𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐣𝐞𝐭 𝐝𝐞 𝐥𝐚 𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐥 :

Le ressort du film : une sénatrice veut réguler la profession
Pour exercer en tant que coach il faut un diplôme d'état
Pierre Niney n'a pas le BAC et il est pas super partant

Je suis 100% d'accord avec cela 
Les coachs non diplômés ne sont pas justes inefficaces
Ils peuvent, sans le vouloir, être très très très dangereux

Le danger vient du côté apprenti sorcier
Quand on est coach le potentiel d'influence est fort
Sans avoir été formé on peut faire de graves dégâts

𝟐- 𝐋𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐝𝐞 𝐝𝐞́𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐞̂𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐳 𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐬

Même bien formé un coach peut glisser
Les coachés vont même les y pousser 

Que répondre quand un coach vous dit :
"Tu as changé toute ma vie tu es incroyable !!!"

Idéalement : 
"Ça aurait fait pareil avec un autre coach. C'est la méthode qui marche et je ne fais que l'appliquer"

Quid des coachs avec un fort égo ? 
Ceux qui ont des problèmes non résolus ? 

Tout coach doit avoir beaucoup travaillé sur lui
Pour une pratique clean il doit avoir un psy et un superviseur

𝟑- 𝐋𝐞 "𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠" 𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐥𝐚 + 𝐚̀ 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐞 :

Je ne coache que dans l'environnement pro avec :

→ Un DRH commanditaire
→ Une validation de mon parcours professionel
→ Des réunions tripartites avec le n+1 du coaché

Ce cadre protège tout le monde

Je n'ai jamais fait hurler 800 personnes dans un Zenith
Je ne fais pas "ce que je veux"

Le life coaching n'a pas ces garde-fous
Du coup se mélange le bon et le discutable

Je connais des life coachs incroyablement pro 
Mais les dérives du film ne sont pas de la fiction

Là où je suis plus mal à l’aise c’est dans la manière dont le débat est traité publiquement, notamment dans la promo du film

On mélange tout sans nuance :

→ Coachs de dirigeants
→ Infopreneurs
→ Life coachs
→ Gourous

C’est confortable mais intellectuellement paresseux
Le film mérite mieux que ça et le débat aussi

La question n’est pas :
“Le coaching est-il dangereux ?”

La vraie question est :
“Dans quel cadre, avec quelles compétences, et quelles limites ?”

Et ça ca mérite autre chose qu’un amalgame rapide je pense

Vous ne la connaissez pas mais cette DRH est incroyable
Elle a réussi a gagner la confiance de TOUS ses DG

Je viens de me découvrir un nouveau héros du management
En 1978 Taiichi Ohno révolutionne Toyota ET le leadership

En 1984 le MIT fait un benchmark sur l'industrie automobile
En compilant leurs chiffres ils tombent sur une anomalie

Toyota fait 2x mieux que tous les autres :

→ 2x moins d'heures de main d'œuvre par voiture
→ 2x moins de CAPEX et d'investissement
→ 2x moins de défauts par voiture

Ils croient à un mensonge ou une erreur de mesure 
Ils partent au Japon et découvrent l'approche de Taiichi

Toyota organise le travail très différemment des autres
Ils tranchent complétement avec le Fordisme et le Taylorisme

Ils considèrent leurs ouvriers comme des artisans qui perfectionnent leur geste année après année 

Là où dans les autres usines on considère les salariés comme des robots qu'on aura hâte de remplacer quelques années + tard

La révolution de Toyota n'est pas qu'industrielle
Taiichi sans le savoir vient de ré-écrire le management 

Chez Toyota on a confiance dans la capacité des ouvriers à remonter des problèmes et à trouver des solutions créatives

Dans les usines américaines on cache les problèmes par peur de la réprimande d'un contremaître 

Chez Ford & Taylor le manager commande & contrôle
Chez Toyota il oriente & supporte

En 2026 la tentation de Fordisme est + forte que jamais
On cherche comment remplacer tout le monde par de l'IA
On organise les équipes commerciales en chaîne
Certains jobs sont + aliénants que jamais

Il y a 48 ans Taiichi a fait un autre pari
Faire confiance aux gens du terrain

Ce pari a sorti le Japon de la misère post 2nd guerre mondiale
Imaginez ce que ça pourrait faire dans votre entreprise ?
