I was a part-time ghostwriter from November 2014 to June 2023. After gathering enough experience and courage, now a full-time writer. 

I do 2 things:

1. Ghostwrite books for CXOs
2. Create content for working people, giving them unique insights into normal life situations.

I freelanced as a writer, after writing my two books (search "Nishtha Gehija" on Amazon), daily blog for ~5 years, sending several newsletters and creating content on Instagram for some time.

The ability to write long form and capture audience's attention where everyone wants quick dopamine, was one of the most fulfilling parts of my job.

To understand what goes inside a CEO's head, do that for two people at the same time, along with your full-time job - was the joy pro max. More so, because we got results better than we had expected.

Late August 2022, I stopped freelancing to give myself a break, and focus 100% on the job of Content Manager and writer for Ankur Warikoo. 

Only to know, that in less than a year, I'd jump to full-time writing and solopreneurship :)

After initially working as Content Writer of the brand, I moved on to managing the entire content that went on various channels of the brand Ankur Warikoo, and its machinery.

Few things I did
1. Ghostwrote "Do Epic Shit" in 2021 which went on to become a bestseller, generating a royally of 10Mn INR+ in the first year. Fun fact: I wrote it in 11 days!! 

2. Ghostwrote "Get Epic Shit Done" in 2022 which again went on to become an instant bestseller. Fun fact: I wrote it in 50 days only :)

3. Lead the Content of the brand Ankur Warikoo, from ~1Mn followers in March 2020 to 9.1Mn+ in June 2023 - an 800% + increase over 3 years

4. Created and lead content of the Brand wariCrew channels single-handedly - that included Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter channels from September 2022 to March 2023, and lead to 2X numbers for these channels, with huge growth rates on LinkedIn and Twitter.

5. Created a workflow system for processes of the entire content team on Asana - that lead to project efficiency, minimal to nil follow-ups, and clear designation of responsibility and accountability

6. Hired, groomed and worked directly with all team members of the content team - full-times, interns and partners.

7. Directly curated LinkedIn content of Ankur Warikoo LinkedIn channel - till May 2023, which grew to 2.1 Mn followers till then

8. Reviewed all final content that went live on all Ankur Warikoo channels - YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube shorts, Facebook and newsletter

9. Coordinated with clients directly for sharing of final content, carrying out edits (if any) and making sure all sponsored content pieces went live as agreed.

10. Coordinated with all agencies for their content delivery as well as their interaction with the team, for smooth sailing between agencies and the internal team

11. Managed agencies and partner payments

12. A personal milestone hit during this stint of mine at wariCrew was to create a "no work on weekend" culture despite working from home.

Joined as the first six few hires of the brand, and worked as a part-time content writer, before moving on to take the full-time role.

Responsibilities during this time included:
- Coming up with ideas for Instagram and LinkedIn 
- Curating Ankur Warikoo LinkedIn content from scratch to finish
- Coming up with captions for all content pieces
- Writing daily blogs on ankurwarikoo dot com website
- Binding up content of the entire team together and keeping it ready to be posted for the next week onwards

Lessons learnt during this internship phase:

1. You can change careers at any time AND be successful and happy at it.
2. The skills of your old career come to help you in your new career. The skills of managing work in previous jobs led me to becoming the "sutradhar" of the team aka bonding the entire team together.
3. Life's good when you do what you love - in my case, writing :)

Got promoted as Senior Manger in April 2017, and continued to work in the position, till my resignation in 2018.

Nishtha Gehija

Earlier this month I met a distant relative after 18 years. 

My BIL (Jijaji) came to Delhi and was staying over at that relative's place. My Mom had sent some stuff from my hometown so I went to collect it. 

One of the questions she asked me when I met her was, "You should get yourself a guy and get married now." I was 15 when I last met her, so her question didn't occure back then lol. 

Anyone who has been around me for the last 8-10 years has stopped asking this question, thankfully :)

But I get it where her question is coming from. I also get a feeling a lot of others want to ask me why I never got married. 

So I wrote an entire post about it. It has no sob story (thankfully).

Just like we celebrate people getting married, we must also celebrate people not getting married out of choice.

Author, Ghostwriter of books for CXOs, CA turned full-time writer, Writer on career and life stories

In a recent call with a client, he said at the end of the call, "Can I send you a voice note around 7 pm, as I have to get into a meeting in a few minutes?"

"Sure. You can send a voice note anytime, but I log off after 6 pm so I'd respond by tomorrow. Hope that's fine?"

Half shocked, he asked, "Which world do you live in?" And then went on to add, "I have tremendous respect for what you're (doing because) if you don't put up boundaries, people will always invade them."

He also shared a quick story about how the term "maverick" came into being, which I want to share with the world:

Samuel Augustine Maverick, was a Texas Wild West guy. There was a rule in the Wild Wild West saying that every animal had to be branded which is hot metal rod put on your animal. This fellow would not put that brand. And then everybody would be worried for him saying that your animals will get lost. But he kept at it for years. One day morning he woke up and he said you know I've not been branding my animals in the entire south of Texas. Any animal that is not branded belongs to me and overnight he became the richest farmer in the entire Texas or entire America simply by the simple move where he went unbranded. So that's why they call the move called Maverick. Maverick is actually the name of a person. It's not a verb.

What he meant that in my context was, that simply by not doing what everyone else does (being available 24*7*365) I was a maverick because I was protecting my most important asset: time, and using it the right way as I wanted to. 

PS: I know this is a little self-rant post, but if it helps even one person brand themselves they way they want to and not the world wants them to, I guess we have done the job right?

The secret behind "laptop lifestyle" no one tells you:

- I am in train en route to my hometown, still working. I don't remember working more than 2x or 3x while commuting in any one of my jobs that I did for ~8 years, even if it was a working day. 
Now that I work for myself, I don't remember NOT working while commuting :)

- I'd planned to spend the last weekend on a meditation retreat, which I did. But I also attended a long work call on Saturday morning, because work needs to be done. 
Also spent a lot of time during breaks there, still working. 

- When you have no external push (showing up to an office, reporting to a manager, etc.) it is hard to stay disciplined and motivated. Because now there is no one doing your appraisal. It is in these times that you kick out the blanket, wear a thick fleece sweater and long socks, get seated on the chair, note down your to-do's on a notepad, type something on your laptop that might see its vivid result a few weeks or a few months or perhaps a year later, and get your work done. Because that is the right thing to do.

Make no mistake, this is no complain. I love every aspect of my life. (And need fixing my schedule to not work during meditation retreats.) This is just a "sneak peek" so to say :)

I really hope anyone wanting to switch to laptop lifestyle also gets to see this behind-the-scenes that no one talks on the internet. 

Reminds me of what James Clear says, "It doesn’t make sense to continue wanting something if you’re not willing to do what it takes to get it."

A few simple reminders on kindness

1. There is a difference between making fun of people and having fun with them. Technically both are the same, but when you show people through your actions that you respect them, you move from former to latter in the most respectful (and fun) manner.

2. Trying to be smart instead of having the real conversation is the age old veil that never worked, never would. 

3. The kindest people say "thank you" and "please" all of the time. And mean it.

When I see a book I ghostwrote hit a bestseller list :))

I'm in a carpool with a bunch of extended family members. 
The two next to me start gossiping, so I flesh out my Kindle and start reading some spiritual texts on a PDF. It is a good way to keep your mind in tune with the right wisdom throughout the day.

To no surprise, I am now mocked. Loudly. In a manner that they expected me to contribute to the "tea" too. Cute :)
I continue reading nonchalantly.

Which later reminds me that the same people have more than once complained to me that "they do not have time to read books or watch a 5-minute inspirational video because they are too busy."

Who is NOT busy, my friend?
But we need to dig time from goss and tea and mock to being the student of life. And do that religiously when others do that to us too. 

It was also a reminder to me that people are always going to find flaws in the way you live your life. 
Whether it is a life where you make time for your inner self.
Or when you are out with others but choose to read instead of gossip.

No one is ever pleased, often for no mistake on their part. 

You do you. Because you get to live with your mind 24*7. If you input trash of goss into it, do not be surprised with the output.

When I used to work in corporate, I was always fascinated by the amount of time people wasted in meetings. 

Wasted, not just spent. 
And these were people at the top of the corporate pyramid whose value of time was way more than the ones who were just starting. 

We all want fewer meetings but unless we figure why are we meaninglessly meandering around in those meetings in the first place, we will continue with the status quo.

Having done my graduation in mechanical engineering from AKTU, I am currently working in a B2B company as a content writer. I have also written a few articles as a freelancer.
