I called a spammer
He sent me a LinkedIn DM claiming to have spoken to various members of my team.

No idea who these team members are, but I would like to meet them 😄 Everybody Works In Sales Ltd is me and my VA of 7 years Nicola Case. We have never heard of this spammer, who called himself Ben.

So I called up Ben early December and he was unavailable. I left him a message thanking him for his email and asked for a call back.

Heard nothing.

I called back a week later, asking he return my message, and even gave the time and date he sent the email. Nothing.

I then emailed this morning asking why he claimed to have spoken to my team members. 

We all make mistakes. Here's what happens when you make one.

1. Apologise QUICKLY.

2. Apologise SINCERELY.

3. DON'T do it again.

Most people are decent and will accept that.

Lying is foolish because people find out and don't want to work with you. That affects your revenue, profits and reputation.

Upselling and Cross-Selling To Your Clients
Yesterday I went to buy new trainers.

There were 3 people working in the shop. 

2 people were chatting about their Saturday night louder than they should have, with their backs to customers. They failed to acknowledge me when I walked in.

The 3rd worker, Elaine, asked me, “Hi, what help do you need?, not the usual cliched “Can I help you with anything?” One is an open question, the other is a closed one.

Always use an open question at the beginning.

I had plantar fasciitis in my feet 10 years ago. After the NHS repeatedly failed to get the diagnoses right, I went private.

After a brutal course of cortisol injections, they recommended trainers like ASICS, HOKA or Brooks with padding to protect my feet.

Elaine recommended trainers that would help and support me. My budget was £90 and the trainers that were more comfortable at £130 – upsell done.

She noticed my work socks and mentioned that sports socks are better suited, so I purchased several pairs of socks – cross-sell done.

Having worked 31 years in sales, I’m a tough person to sell to, yet I purchased with ease.

My wife Rachel ( as a newly wed, I still get excited calling her my wife) was with me. She was impressed with Elaine and purchased pink trainers for herself.

This is a great example of how selling should be done.

There was:
 
✅  no awkward body language
✅  no nerves
✅  no speaking faster
✅  no hard sell
✅  no rush for the deal
✅  no desperation
✅  it was all about serving the customer

Most people don’t think enough about upselling or cross-selling to clients - and they're not aware of their tone or body language when doing so.

If Michael Jordan needed support, so you do.
…Michael Jordan was a basketball player for Chicago Bulls. He was a good player, but was still getting pushed around by certain teams like Detroit Pistons.

Enter Tim Grover. He wrote to everyone in the Chicago Bulls team asking to be their coach and help them succeed. They ignored him.

He didn’t initially write to Michael Jordan since he was the best player in the team and thought Michael Jordan would ignore him.

Finally, he wrote to Michael Jordan who wanted to improve his career and was smart enough to say yes.

No outsider has ever come into a basketball team like this before and naturally people were concerned.

Many sales leaders and business owners are concerned about hiring outside coaches, often thinking they know it all themselves.

If you try and do everything yourself, you will fail.

Everyone needs help.

Tim Grover didn’t train Jordan on getting better at basketball, he trained him on mindset, getting the basics right and got him doing arm weights to intimidate the competition. Tim didn’t train him the way other people did.

Jordan is now considered the greatest basketball player and of one of the most successful athletes of all time.

❌ You messaged me on the wrong platform

Here’s how to improve it
