On paper and in quarterly calls it looks impressive.

But dig deeper, and it’s often nothing more than a sanitized version of the truth.

Here’s what happens when the heat of real business pressure kicks in:

↳ Adjusted EBITDA: a full pan of spinach — puffed up with “one-time” add-backs

↳ EBITDA: a few wilted leaves left — still disconnected from actual cash

↳ Net income: the bare truth — what’s left after everyone else takes their share

↳ Operating cash flow: the real litmus test — what the business actually generates to reinvest, repay, and survive

Most CEOs are obsessed with EBITDA.
But it’s operating cash flow that fuels today and builds tomorrow.

Smart CEOs understand this:

✓ Adjusted EBITDA is easy to manipulate — operating cash flow isn’t
✓ EBITDA ignores working capital swings — OCF exposes them
✓ Operating cash flow shows what’s sustainable — not presentable

That number is Operating Cash Flow.

In my role i was responsible for financial strategy, planning, analysis and reporting of network of capability centers (Bengaluru, Prague, Brazil, Mexico), Legal, Tax and other admin functions (excl.HR). 

The role also includes financial strategy, assessment & execution of business take overs from various vendor partners and other high cost locations, capital allocation & RoI assessment to develop Digital CoE, analytics and transformation teams and delivered value to GHQ, operational excellence to maximise service cross charges and optimize overhead costs, execution of various tax optimization strategies including APA and legal strategy and governance. 

The size of the business increased 10x in 4 years. Value delivery to stake holders through Analytics and Digitalization is about $ 100 mils . RoI on Analytics and Digital COE is close to 5x.

Ford Motor Company

Lead the strong growth momentum of the Global In-house center and enabled the organization to grow by more than 2500+ people across various functions. Grew the business from a transaction-processing center to a knowledge hub and enhanced value opportunities through end-to-end ownership of various processes, developing Centers of Excellence, insourcing of purchase services vendors, maximizing the location strategies and integrating IT and Non-IT division.

Successfully advocated, influenced and achieved buy-in from Ford Board, for Global Technology and Business Center, a new state-of-the-art Ford owned facility at an investment of about 
$ 200M, to drive future business growth, innovation and collaboration by setting up a product development/Engineering center to conduct extensive testing for Ford’s future vehicles across the globe and bringing together employees from all other Automotive functions (including IT) under one roof and contribute towards Ford’s core and emerging business models.

Represented Ford in Tamilnadu government negotiations and Ministry of Commerce, and secured $90M in subsidies, fiscal incentives and tax savings for setting up of Global Technology, Engineering and Business Center in a SEZ.

Developed and implemented the outsourcing strategy and governance for sourcing work to various low-cost centers across the globe including India, resulting in annual structural cost reductions of $25M for the corporation.

Developed five-year business plans, budgets and forecasts, capital spending plans and cash flow projections with a focus on optimizing costs, ensuring the right levels of bill rates, planning the infrastructure to support the growth plans and maximizing the cash flows.

Drove the business to deliver on the monthly performance indicators like hiring, capacity, control, cost performance, cash and capital spending, and presented the same to President Asia pacific and monthly Business Plan reviews in US.

Manager Finance, Ford Business Services Center

Successfully market launched Ford Figo 2010  through competitive pricing strategies, using tools like visual pricing, equipment adjusted pricing and equipment adjusted transaction pricing and delivered record-breaking volumes in first year.

Strategized and implemented a parts warehouse network across India to ensure the cars are back on road within 48 hours of reporting to the dealership by benchmarking the Ford Global and other Indian OEM’s warehouse network and its operations. This also includes ensuring the right levels of inventory at the parts warehouse and efficient operations of the all the warehouses.

Improved the perception and reality about the cost of ownership of owning Ford Figo and other vehicles through child parts launch, parts and extended warranty pricing actions, and cost optimization strategies on warehousing and supply chain management.

Drove the turnaround of the extended service business from loss making proposition to a profitable business through various strategies including, warranty counseling, child parts launch, cost optimization actions, and a new pricing structure.

Manager Finance - Marketing Sales and Service

Collaborated and partnered with Ford’s global design engineers and product developers and delivered Ford Figo 2010 model (Ford’s first Sub B car in India) by rightly balancing the Ford’s DNA and Indian customer expectation with respect to small car.

Successfully delivered Figo 2010 model Job #1, with 15 % contribution margin,  6% ROCE through efficient contribution costs and delivered cost reductions of USD $200 per vehicle at Job#1, through various strategies including, engineering design modifications, localization actions, supplier negotiations, efficient supply chain and packaging.

Efficiently managed financial operations of Chennai vehicle assembly plant, assembling Ikon and Fiesta models, by ensuring optimal inventory levels, reduced labor and overheads costs and efficient supply chain.
