I want to spend $120,000 on marketing

$20,000/month over six months

This will be my biggest ever marketing bet at Senja

But I want to scale from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 ARR and need to take bigger bets

My brain is telling me to try and scale something measurable - meta ads, Google Ads, cold outbound

But my gut thinks I should focus on the hard work of building relationships with power-users and influencers of our ICP

Less measurable, slower to ramp-up, but a genuine opportunity to find and persuade the right people to use Senja, and get to success

This work would then act as the foundation of future marketing activity

So I'm torn

Building a bootstrapped SaaS in public, without the BS

I got roasted by 250 people

I knew my post would be controversial, but I had no idea it would also totally change my thinking

I thought people would focus on the measurable vs unmeasurable marketing question, or discuss head versus heart when making strategic decisions

Instead some very smart people focused on me fixing fundamental issues with the product and our product-led growth (now) before sequencing in paid (later)

Senja is product-led but I've drifted way from this over time because our churn and TOF sign ups have met and I have been looking to throw money at the problem

I'm starting to realise that paid will compound existing issues, whereas (unmeasurable?!) relationship building will not only drive TOF but assist throughout the funnel -> activation -> retention -> referral -> churn

We help our customers collect and share video testimonials and stories, and tell them this is how to grow, so it's critical that this is the foundation of our own marketing

Finally I need to look again at our product growth loops as we're uniquely positioned to grow from them IF enough news customers are getting to success

Our tool creates (awesome) assets for our customers that can drive awareness and TOF but only if they are being shared

Guess which one is easier to manage?
Guess which one has higher profit margins?
Guess which one doesn't require a massive audience?

The ascending price model is your secret weapon:

Every "yes" at your new price builds confidence

Start at $500.
Move to $625.
Then $780.
Then $975.

By client #50, you're charging $1,500+ for the same service you started at $500.

(and mind you -  25% is just a suggestion - you can always go higher the more comfortable and systematized you get)

Same expertise. 
Same deliverable. 

Different positioning.

Because here's the thing about pricing:

It's not about what you think you're worth.

It's about what the market will pay for transformation.

My nephew asked me what I do for work yesterday.

I said: 

"I help people talk to money."

Market-thinking creates offers people throw money at.

I learned this the hard way...

My first offer was "Content Strategy for Creators."

Sounds impressive, right?

I made about $1500 in 3 months.

Then I talked to my market.

They didn't want "strategy."

They wanted to stop feeling like frauds charging for their work.

Same expertise. Different angle.

"Create a One Page Offer™ and validate it with 3 clients" 

was born.

$40K+ in the first 90 days...

Same knowledge
Same person
Same skills

Different offer.

Because I stopped leading with what I wanted to teach.

And started with what they desperately wanted to learn.

Your expertise is the vehicle.

Their transformation is the destination.

Get that backwards, and you'll stay stuck explaining why your knowledge is valuable.

Get it right, and they'll be asking how fast they can start.

If you've been told to "find your niche" and felt paralyzed, this will change everything...

Most creators think a niche is:

• An industry ("fitness")
• A platform ("LinkedIn creators")
• A demographic ("millennial women")

That's not a niche.

A $100k niche is a group with a problem.

Crickets.

Then she shifted:

"I help programmers stuck in application hell get recruiters to reach out to them with their dream job and salary in hand"

Same skills. Same person. 
Completely different response.

6 new clients within the first month working together...

Because he stopped describing what he did and started describing the hell her clients were living in.

The magic isn't in the solution.
It's in how precisely you can articulate the problem.

Most creators get this backwards...

Here's how to find your $100k niche:

1. List every problem you've personally solved
2. Identify which ones people regularly ask you about
3. Find the intersection of "urgent" and "expensive"
4. Test your language with real humans

Don't ask 

"What's my niche?"

Ask 

"Whose problem am I uniquely positioned to solve?"

The money follows the problem.

The bigger the problem, the bigger the opportunity.

Stop being a generalist hoping someone needs everything.

Start being the specialist people desperately need for one thing.

Picture this scenario:

Two coaches launch the exact same program. 

• Same offer
• Same price point
• Same audience size

Coach A makes $3,000
Coach B makes $15,000

The difference isn't their expertise
It's not their audience 

It's frame control

Coach A: The Commodity Approach

Sends an email: 

"Hey everyone, I'm opening enrollment for my coaching program next Tuesday. Here are the details, here are the benefits, here's the price."

Tuesday comes. Doors open. Then they wait.

The response is crickets.

 By Thursday, panic sets in. 

They send another email with the same details. 

They're begging people to buy. 

Result: $3,000 and a bruised ego.

Coach B: The Authority Approach

Takes a completely different path.

Sends a thoughtful email about a conversation they had with a struggling client. 

• Real problem
• Real insight
• Real value

No pitch. Just genuine help.

And a "P.S."

P.S. "This conversation inspired me to create something that solves this exact problem. Reply 'INTERESTED' if this would help you too."

60 replies flood their inbox.

Two days later: 

"I got an overwhelming response to Tuesday's email. This inspired me to put together something even bigger than I originally planned. I'm creating a pre-registration list. As a bonus, pre-registered people get an extra one-on-one call with me."

100 people pre-register.

Final email: 

"Due to the response, I'm limiting this to 10 spots only. Pre-registered people get first access Monday morning - with their bonus. Everyone else gets access Tuesday - without the bonus."
