🔬 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 #AI: 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝘆!

Picture this: you’re holding a cube. It’s got 8 corners, 12 edges, and 6 faces. 

Add the corners and faces, subtract the edges, and you always get 2. Every time. That’s Euler’s Polyhedron Formula—V - E + F = 2. It works for a cube, a pyramid, even a soccer ball.

So why does that matter? Because it’s a reminder that under all complexity, there’s structure. Euler didn’t just find a number—he found a pattern that connects everything.

That’s how I think about explaining AI. The goal isn’t to drown people in details; it’s to show the structure beneath the surface. When you connect data (edges), decisions (vertices), and outcomes (faces) just right, people get it.

The best teachers—whether they’re explaining geometry or generative AI—make the complex feel simple and the simple feel profound. That’s how real understanding sticks.

Deloitte Top #AI and Tech Trends for 2026!

Thanks to Andreas Horn, Head of AIOps for IBM, we get a great summary of the document.
Here are my top 3:

1. The AI Bubble is real.  Organizations will stop funding GenAI unless real ROI starts appearing.

2.  Training and change management are the keys for results.

3. Operational concerns with AI projects are going to get recognized as top priorities.

Deloitte 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.

As the year is getting started, we’re entering the season where every company publishes its outlook on the future. Sometimes these predictions age remarkably well. Sometimes they miss the mark entirely. That’s the uncomfortable truth about forecasting technology futures.

But on the overall signal, I largely agree with this one: AI is no longer an add-on. It’s becoming the core operating logic of the enterprise. Enterprise IT is becoming: AI-native by default

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽 5 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀: ⬇️

1. AI goes physical
→ AI is leaving dashboards and APIs and entering the real world. Robotics, autonomous systems, drones, and industrial automation are moving from scripted behavior to adaptive intelligence.

2. The agentic reality check
→ Agentic AI is real, but still underdelivering in production. Only a small minority of enterprises run agents at scale today. The reason is not models. It is architecture, governance, and operating models. 2026 will show more redesign processes around agents instead of bolting agents onto old workflows. 

3. The AI infrastructure reckoning
→ Inference economics are becoming the boardroom topic. Token prices are down, total AI spend is up. Enterprises are hitting cloud cost ceilings and shifting to hybrid architectures: cloud for burst, on-prem for steady inference, edge for latency. .

4.  Security becomes an AI-native discipline
→ AI is both the attack surface and the defense layer. Shadow AI, adversarial attacks, and model vulnerabilities force security to span data, models, applications, and infrastructure. At the same time, AI-powered red teaming, threat detection, and autonomous response are becoming mandatory.

5. The great rebuild of tech organizations
→ This is not about automation. This is organizational redesign. CIOs evolve into AI orchestrators. New roles emerge around human-agent collaboration. Architectures become modular, agent-first, and outcome-driven. Incremental change will not be enough. Continuous evolution becomes the operating principle.

🔬 #ArtificialIntelligence Innovation: Human-Powered Helicopter!  

Human-powered helicopter hovers for more than a minute, defying sceptics' claims it was scientifically impossible!


𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁

The Igor I Sikorsky Human Powered Helicopter Competition was launched in 1980 by the American Helicopter Society (AHS). The rules stated that the $250,000 prize could only be won by a human-powered machine capable of hovering for at least 60 seconds, reach at least 3 metres in height, and stay within an area 10 metres by 10 metres.

On Thursday, the award was handed over to the AeroVelo project, led by Todd Reichert and Cameron Robertson. Their winning flying machine, called Atlas, has a set of 20-metre rotors at each corner of a square frame 50 metres on each side, and is powered by a bicycle at the centre of the square.

Thanks to the use of lightweight materials, such as carbon fibre, the whole setup only weighs only 55kg despite its huge size. The team describe the Atlas machine in detail in a claim for a world record to the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale).

"This isn't something that you're going to commute to work in any time soon, but it's an exercise in really pushing the limits on what's physically possible, and what you can do with lightweight materials and really creative design," Reichert told the Canadian Press. "Winning this competition really is a catalyst to keep doing the things we love. Our goal is to take on projects that really inspire people to follow big dreams."


𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀

The AeroVelo team started work on Atlas in January 2012 and flight testing began in August. They refined the design over the following months and, despite two big crashes that destroyed much of their work, Reichert piloted the machine to make the record-breaking flight on 13 June (if you're reading on a mobile device click here to see the flight).

At the presentation of the prize on Thursday, AHS executive director, Mike Hirschberg, said that many in the world's vertical flight community had thought the Sikorsky challenge was impossible. "Several studies 'proved' that it was in fact scientifically impossible," he said. "A human being simply could not generate enough power for long enough to keep a human-powered helicopter in the air for 60 seconds, much less reach 3 metres. And when you add the weight of a control system to keep it hovering over a 10-metre box, it made it even more impossible.

"Well, it took a third of a century to prove those sceptics wrong. It took that long for the state of the art of vertical flight to see significant technological advances in lightweight structures, computer-aided design, aeromechanics, and multidisciplinary design optimisation."

CNN's are the basis for many tools, including most of the computer vision, image, and video generation for Generative AI.  Here's how to teach it to your team.


𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀

A convolutional neural network (CNN) is a regularized type of feed-forward neural network that learns features by itself via filter (or kernel) optimization. This type of deep learning network has been applied to process and make predictions from many different types of data including text, images and audio.

Convolution-based networks are the de-facto standard in deep learning-based approaches to computer vision and image processing, and have only recently have been replaced -- in some cases -- by newer deep learning architectures such as the transformer. Vanishing gradients and exploding gradients, seen during backpropagation in earlier neural networks, are prevented by using regularized weights over fewer connections.

For example, for each neuron in the fully-connected layer, 10,000 weights would be required for processing an image sized 100 × 100 pixels. However, applying cascaded convolution (or cross-correlation) kernels, only 25 neurons are required to process 5x5-sized tiles. Higher-layer features are extracted from wider context windows, compared to lower-layer features.

CNNs are also known as shift invariant or space invariant artificial neural networks, based on the shared-weight architecture of the convolution kernels or filters that slide along input features and provide translation-equivariant responses known as feature maps.  Counter-intuitively, most convolutional neural networks are not invariant to translation, due to the downsampling operation they apply to the input.

In the world of AI, Reinforcement Learning is truly a star, and the basis of things like self-driving cars/ autonomous vehicles.

It contains a few elements:

Liter of Light is an open source design for a low-cost light tube (or deck prism or vault light) that refracts solar light to provide daytime interior lighting for dwellings with thin roofs. 

Daylighting is cheaper than using indoor electric lights during the day. The device is simple: a transparent two-liter bottle is filled with water plus a little bleach to inhibit algal growth and fitted into a hole in a roof. 

The device functions like a deck prism: during daytime the water inside the bottle refracts sunlight, delivering about as much light as a 40–60 watt incandescent bulb to the interior. A properly installed solar bottle can last up to 5 years.

The use of plastic bottles in this way to provide indoor lighting from daylight was developed by Alfredo Moser of Brazil. Using the technology as a social enterprise was first launched in the Philippines by Illac Diaz under the My Shelter Foundation in April 2011. In order to help the idea to grow sustainably, Diaz implemented a "local entrepreneur" business model whereby bottle bulbs are assembled and installed by local people, who can earn a small income for their work. 


𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀

Within months, the organization expanded from one carpenter and one set of tools in one community in San Pedro, Laguna to 15,000 solar bottle bulb installations in twenty cities around the Philippines, and began to inspire local initiatives around the world. MyShelter Foundation also established a training center that conducts workshops with youth, business companies, and other groups who are interested in volunteering their time to build lights in their communities.

In less than a year since inception, over 200,000 bottle bulbs were installed in communities around the world. Liter of Light had a goal to light up 1 million homes by the end of 2015.
