I’m at my son’s development soccer practice this morning. 

He’s 8. 
They’re working on the fundamentals.

How to dribble the ball.
How to accept a pass.
How to make a pass.

Why?

So that come next spring, when soccer season starts back up, he can feel even more confident and more prepared. 

Why?

So that he can enjoy playing the game and experience success.

Pretty simple really:

Repetitions breed confidence.
Confidence improves performance.
Performance impacts results.

As an athlete, and as a skill development coach myself, this has always made sense to me.

One of the things that surprised me the most when I transitioned into corporate was the lack of practice.

EVERYTHING was performance. 
High stakes with no room to grow.

To me, it’s the equivalent of a young athlete who is new to a sport stepping on the field for the first time in a ‘do or die’ situation. 
They haven’t learned to dribble. 
They don’t know how to pass.
Yet they are expected to perform. 
And every game is a championship game.

And then we wonder why people feel overwhelmed and lack confidence…

Regardless of the skill you are developing, practice is ESSENTIAL, and it can no longer be overlooked.

'Live every day as if it's your last' is AWFUL advice. 
Can you imagine if you actually did that??

Talk about 'too much to do, and not enough time to do it.' 😬 

Our sense of urgency would SKYROCKET. 
The pressure to perform would be non-stop.
Our expectations would become quite unrealistic.
We would be looking for IMMEDIATE return on every little thing we did.

BAH. 

An alternative? 

'LIVE EVERY DAY AS IF IT'S YOUR FIRST.'

Curiosity is driving your decisions. 
Everything around you is new and exciting. 
You find gratitude and awe in everything and everyone you encounter. 

You're just happy to be here, 
and see the opportunity in everything.

What's something new that you've tried in 2025?

Welcome to the time of the year where things start to get a little extra 'stressy.' 

Holiday planning.
Year-end (and all that comes with it). 
Planning for 2026 (and all that comes with it). 

We are in a prime window for stress-levels to shoot through the roof. 
The mind is being pulled in a million different directions. 
It's easy to feel like you are not doing enough. 

That there's just not enough time. 
That there's too much to be done. 
There's not enough 'you' to go around.

This makes it the PERFECT time to STOP for a minute. 
Take a deep breath. Reset. Ground yourself. 

THEN, take out your phone... open your photo album, go back to January 2025, and take a few minutes to review your year to date. 

Chances are, you've done A LOT. You have made progress. 
You have created memorable moments for yourself and for others. 
Take a second to CHERISH that.  All of it. The good. The bad. The in between. 

You are moving, you are growing, and you will continue to do so. 💜
