I nearly lost my Google internship because of one decision I made without realising how much was on the line.

This was back in 2014.
I was placed in the customer support team, and even though I was grateful to be there, I knew it wasn’t a long-term fit for me.

I was fascinated with sales because it felt like the closest thing to entrepreneurship, and that’s where I wanted to be.

So I started booking coffees with other Google employees to hear what their day-to-day was like. The more I listened, the more convinced I became that it was the perfect fit.

One day, my manager called me in and explained that to graduate from intern to full-time, I’d need to do another interview, then asked if I planned to stay in the team.

I told him no, I wanted sales.

What I didn’t realise at the time was that if I didn’t get that role, I wouldn’t just miss out on sales… I wouldn’t have a job at Google.

A month later, I was booked in. The first interview went well, but the second one was an absolute disaster.

For weeks, I was distraught, convinced I’d blown the biggest opportunity of my life.

Then one random afternoon, I got the call: I got the job. In the exact role I wanted.

It taught me something I’ll never forget: sometimes the risks that feel the scariest are the ones that put you exactly where you’re meant to be.

Customer: We get great leads from conferences, but manually finding exhibitors and tracking them down is way too time intensive.

Us: Automate it. Scrape exhibitor lists, upload to Apollo, find decision makers, verify emails in Clay, then launch outreach.

Customer: That sounds complicated. We'll just stick to our usual cold outreach.

Us: Let’s at least try?

Customer: Sure, why not?

I'm not sure why this is so common, but I see it all the time.
Companies know what works but refuse to systemise it.

They'd rather send thousands of generic emails than automate the one strategy that actually gets responses.

If your leads come from, let’s say for example, exhibitors at industry events.
Do more of that, just automate it!

What I particularly liked about this campaign that we ran earlier this year is that the exhibitors are literally raising their hands saying, "I'm active in this space, and I’m so active, I’m willing to spend $10-$20K to show it."

When I go back to my hometown, I always go to see the teacher who got me into, to see him and thank him.

It's my corporate job in 2018 at age 23 after 2 years.
I had set a secret goal: run my own business by 23.

I kept it secret because I was scared people would ridicule me or turn their noses up at the idea.
“Who does he think he is?”

The problem? After leaving, I spent 6 months building websites, logos, and trying to get everything perfect.

None of it mattered.
The only thing that mattered was getting in the field and selling to actual customers.

Here's what I wish I'd known:
Step 1: Don’t over-prepare, just jump. 
Step 2: The jump is less scary than the run-up. 
Step 3: Once you jump, you don’t look back.

Here's how it actually played out:

2010 (Age 15): Started freelancing, Built websites, apps, and did graphic design for local businesses.

2016 (Age 21): Joined the corporation. Thought I needed "real experience" before starting my own thing.

2018 (Age 23): Left to launch my first real business. Finally formalizing my freelancing.

2019-2020: Hit $100k in revenue. First 12-18 months proved the concept worked.

2020 (Age 25): The agency reality check: "A lot of squeeze for very little juice." Typical agency business problems.

2021: Pivoted to an investor-backed startup. Wanted something more scalable than the agency model.

At 26, raised ~$400K from investors to grow the business.

The startup didn't work out.
After some soul-searching, I realized what I needed to build was right in front of me the whole time.

Now I'm building a company that teaches businesses how to automate their sales systems using AI.

Born from the hard lessons of running that first agency:
→ Freeing companies from mundane and routine sales tasks 
→ Helping them grow faster through intelligent automation 
→ Building scalable systems instead of trading time for money
Running a company is much harder than it looks from the outside.

In the corporate world, there are invisible safety nets everywhere. 
Infrastructure. Teams. Processes. 
People need to pick up the pieces when things go wrong.

When you're on your own, there's only one person to pick everything up.
You.

Every decision. Every mistake. Every late night, fixing what broke during the day.

I doubted myself constantly. Especially in those first 6 months when I was building logos instead of building relationships.

The learning curve felt impossible some days. The isolation was real.
There were moments I wondered if I'd made the biggest mistake of my life.

Sometimes the biggest risk is staying exactly where you are.

The goal you're afraid to share out loud might be the one that changes everything.

Customer: "Check out this cold email I just got, they mentioned our DevOps job posting, our founder's podcast appearance, can we do the same!?"

Me: "What results do you think they got?"

Customer: "They probably booked 30+ meetings from this."

Me: "Maybe, but maybe not. You're seeing survivorship bias. You only see the emails that worked. You don't see the other 73 prospects who are a bunch of AI hallucinations and instant-deletes."

Customer: "But more personalisation has to be better..."

Me: "We tested this. Emails with 10+ personalisation points vs emails with 2-3 non-obvious ones. The complex ones performed worse."

Customer: "That makes no sense."

Me: "It's because the more you personalise, the bigger the risk of hallucination. People are smart; if even one aspect of an email is off, they smell a rat, and it destroys trust instantly."

Customer: "So we shouldn't use personalisation?"

Me: "We should, but only just enough that at scale, the chances of any drastic hallucinations are very low."

The difference between average and elite personalisation:

→ Average: mentions recent value prop, company mission, website content, job titles 
→ Elite: points out precise, non-obvious insights (e.g., site performance gaps)

→ Average: lists 5+ data points to look through 
→ Elite: drops one killer insight that shows real understanding

Most people think impressive emails need 10 data points.
Elite cold emailers know one sharp observation outperforms everything else.
