I left Carlisle in my early twenties because talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t.

That belief has taken me across six continents, leading teams through crisis and transformation at some of the world’s largest organisations. From Switzerland to Korea, one lesson kept repeating: whether in global firms or small towns, people often miss the talent and opportunities right in front of them.

It’s why I founded the Purpose Made Podcast.

A podcast and platform exploring how challenge, change, and growth shape who we are. I sit down with athletes, entrepreneurs, creatives, and leaders to uncover stories that inspire resilience and offer lessons worth sharing.

Because people don’t follow strategies, they follow stories.

Stories that connect, challenge, and create purpose.

Beyond the podcast, I work with governments, charities, Fortune 500s and entertainment bodies to help leaders navigate change via my consultancy Purpose Made. My roots in gaming and transmedia storytelling (from my EA days) continue to fuel this belief: narrative drives behaviour as much as strategy does.

Outside of work, three brilliant kids keep me honest about what really matters and why we do the things we do.

Fallout (1997) didn’t succeed by accident.

A big part of its success came from a team building the same game, each person contributing in the area they were best at, with a shared vision.

Tim Cain’s take on collaboration and creative ownership is incredibly relevant far beyond games.

Music in storytelling is still too often treated as an afterthought: a layer added on top of the “real” work.

But that framing fundamentally misses the point.

Music doesn’t support emotion. 
It is the emotional experience. It speaks directly to the nervous system, bypassing analysis and language, shaping how we feel before we consciously understand why.

In games especially, music becomes the connective tissue; the element that binds mechanics, worlds, and moments into something cohesive and meaningful. 

There is so much more to say on the matter that I'll share a part 2 soon.

For so many of us, it was our childhood.

Will it trump the mess that was the ‘87 Masters?

Damn right.

I love Dolph Lundgren (don’t we all – Universal Soldier, Rocky, et al.)

But that 1987 film was a mess.

Can’t wait for this one.

Ben is the founder and CEO of Midwest Games, the creator of Shadow Publishing, a for-hire model of publishing. He is focused building alternative approaches to create new opportunity within the games industry in both how we do work and where we do it.

Ben has worked in games, film, esports, and radio, and has helped publish over 100 game titles and over 50 films, including some of the most popular and successful franchises in the entertainment industry. He has also been recognized for his entrepreneurial spirit, his advocacy for the Midwest game community, and his contributions to his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. 

He currently acts as President of the Wisconsin Games Alliance and the Executive Chair of MDEV, the Midwest's largest game industry event. He sits on the Board of the Wisconsin Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters, as well.
