You can teach your tech stack in months. You can't teach someone to care about the problem behind the ticket.

The résumé says where someone's been. The conversation tells you who they are. Most hiring processes only measure the first.

When was the last time you built something for the first time?



I have always considered myself a builder.

As a kid, I spent endless hours tinkering around the house. When I was in university, I was the one in group projects who volunteered to solder the circuit boards. Throughout my years as an electrical engineer, I laid out schematics, did most of the PCB drafting, and built prototypes in the lab. I loved seeing something go from an idea to a working reality.

As I moved into engineering leadership, my focus shifted. I learned how to build teams, and that naturally pulled me out of the lab. But the desire to keep building never left. It simply transferred to home projects and to finding new ways to improve and create.

AI has brought back that feeling of building for the first time.

It feels like being a college student again, except this time I am not just learning from professors. AI itself has become a powerful learning resource. The real advantage now is experience. Years of building give me context. I can tell when AI is heading in the right direction and when it needs guidance. I know how to shape prompts, validate results, and turn outputs into something useful.

Most people are too busy to engage deeply with AI. When AI is forced on them or encountered only through news hype, it often creates resistance. I get that. Still, I humbly recommend starting by building something yourself.

Build one thing and learn by doing.

AI is changing so quickly that what was impossible six months ago is now commonplace. I believe AI literacy is quickly becoming the minimum standard for white collar professionals.

As an 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫, my curiosity pushes me to spot the trends that will redefine how work gets done.  One of my most important responsibilities is making sure the team is ready to adopt the right tools before they become the industry norm.

With AI, the earliest signals almost always show up with the people building the technology.  No one wants to waste time when there are better ways to work.🤓 

Recently, several articles highlighted that Anthropic is using its own model, Claude Code, to write, test, validate, and optimize new releases of Claude Code. Engineers have even said that 𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 100% 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘦.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭:
Engineers are still deeply involved.  They are acting as product architects, reviewers, and editors.  These roles will evolve, but they will not disappear. Assuming you are unaffected because you are not a coder is the wrong conclusion.  The people closest to the technology will enhance their work the fastest because they understand what “𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳” looks like.

Another point to remember: Anthropic’s engineers are not relying on the free version of Claude.  They are using the most advanced and highest‑performing systems available.  Saying “𝘈𝘐 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘭𝘰𝘱” because you used a free tier is like 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 a marathon for 9 hours and deciding it was not worth your time, while someone else drove an 𝐅1 𝐜𝐚𝐫 and finished in 7 minutes.

I’ve always been fascinated by how the brain works, especially the idea of trusting your gut.

As we gain experience, something interesting happens.

Our brain stops needing to consciously reason through every situation.
The response shifts from the logical brain, the cortex, to the limbic system, the gut.

That’s why experience matters.

It’s also why so many job descriptions call out years of experience.
Time is not just about knowledge.

It’s about pattern recognition, speed, and judgment.

As an engineering leader, after years of leading teams and making hard calls, I can often feel when a team is performing well or when something is off before the metrics confirm it.

Now contrast that with AI.

AI is 100 percent logic.
It doesn’t have intuition.
It doesn’t have judgment.
It doesn’t have a gut.

It is a statistical engine predicting the most likely next answer.

That’s why context matters so much.

If you want better results from AI, you have to give it far more context than you think.
It can’t infer intent.
It can’t read the room. 
And it can’t replace experience. It can only amplify it.

AI has a powerful brain.

But as a human I trust my gut.
