Hi - let me introduce myself. 

I am Phil - a Performance Coach working primarily with revenue leaders & salespeople. 

My mission is to decode Performance Psychology - and teach it to leaders, so they can get the most from their people. 

I worked in sales for 12 years, and have since built a successful coaching business, where I teach the fundamentals of Performance Psychology, and work with revenue leaders to build out high performing teams.

My ambition is to make coaching part of the culture of organisational life. Where people do jobs that are aligned to their core values, and to create environments where people grow personally & professionally EVERYDAY. 

I have studied human psychology & neuroscience as part of my coaching qualification - and adp[t

Firstly, thank you.

If you’re reading this, you’ve been part of this journey in some way, and I don’t take that lightly. It’s been over a year since I last wrote on my LinkedIn newsletter and with over 5000 of you to update a lot has changed in that time.

I'm at Asana and couldnt more excited about the future of AI and Collaboration.

For those that have followed me for a while, you’ll know that Sales Confidence was never just a business. It was a mission. 

For over seven years, I spent almost every day thinking about how we help salespeople perform at their best without burning out. That led to thousands of conversations, a community, and eventually the book How to Build Sales Confidence.

But towards the end of 2024, something shifted for me.

I didn’t feel like I had anything new to say.

Sales, as I understood it, hadn’t really changed. And at the same time, this whole new world was opening up — AI, automation, agents, systems. Like a lot of people, I found myself in it, but not fully understanding it. Trying tools, experimenting, seeing everything on my feed… and if I’m honest, feeling a bit lost in it all.

So I stopped.

I stopped posting, stopped writing, stopped adding to the noise.
And then, over time, things started to click. Not because of one tool or one breakthrough, but because of a realisation that this isn’t really about tools at all. It’s about systems. It’s about how work actually gets done when AI becomes part of the process.

And in sales, that changes everything.

So this newsletter is evolving.

I use 3 AI models every day. 

Here’s exactly how 

Let me tell you why I don’t think one is enough.

Most people pick a favourite and stop there.

I stopped doing that about 4 months ago.
Here’s my actual stack:

ChatGPT — 2+ years in. It knows me. My ideas, my patterns, how I think. It’s my always-on strategic layer. Therapist. Relationship coach. Fitness sounding board. The memory it’s built up over time is genuinely hard to walk away from.

Claude — this is where the work gets done. Building on ideas. Pushing back properly. Writing code. Building branded assets. Creating prompts for sites. If I need something built, Claude builds it. Sonnet 4 especially — it’s not even close.

Gemini — data, research, and almost all my emails. The speed of pulling structured insight from a dataset or drafting a sharp reply is underrated. It lives in my workflow quietly and earns its place.

The through-line? I voice note everything now.

This post started as a voice note into Claude. It produced the draft. I edited. I posted.

It’s that easy. 

That’s the actual workflow.

One model isn’t the answer. A system is.

Most people don’t fail at fitness.

They just never fully commit.

Hard truth:

Over the last decade, I let my health slip.

Not completely…
	•	I went to the gym (sometimes)
	•	I ran (occasionally)
	•	I ate “fairly” well

But I wasn’t locked in.

And that’s the difference.

Because I know what locked in feels like.

At school and university, I was a high-performance rower.

Disciplined. Fit. Strong. Lean.

So I can’t lie to myself — it’s in me.

At the start of this year, I set a goal:

Lose 20kg.

So far: 7kg down.

No hacks. No shortcuts.

Just execution.

Here’s what actually moved the needle:

	•	Food prep > convenience
	•	Cut processed rubbish
	•	Drink water 
	•	Train Gym 3–4x per week
	•	Run 2–3x per week

All important.

But not the real secret…

The real game changer was accountability:

	1.	Daily weigh-ins
No hiding. Just truth.
	2.	Daily progress photos
Motivation compounds over time.
	3.	10,000+ steps every day
Underrated. Simple. Powerful.

Walking has been the biggest unlock.

It clears your head. Builds momentum. Keeps you consistent.

And consistency beats everything.

You are still selling like it’s 2020!

Most founders and sales teams are still running the same playbook they built during Covid!

This was a time when everyone was stuck at home, dialled into clubhouse and eating  the fridge at regular snack time.

The way revenue actually gets built in 2026 looks completely different.

Here’s what’s changed 👇

Activity-based selling is being replaced by context-based execution

For years, “doing sales” meant:
→ Build a list
→ Write a sequence
→ Hit send
→ Chase replies

High-performing teams aren’t doing that anymore.

They’re building systems that read the room before they reach out.

Because buyers are constantly leaving signals:

Call this signal-selling, context-selling, responsive-selling, personalise-selling

• Hiring patterns
• Funding rounds
• Tech stack changes
• LinkedIn behaviour
• Website intent

The teams responding to those signals in minutes — not days — are winning.

👉 Responding within 30 minutes of a buying signal can increase conversion by up to 8×. 

Most teams respond in days. (Yes in 2026!!!!!!)

Some don’t even respond or bother with follow up.

Why you even waiting when a voice AI agent can respond in seconds….. tell me who is doing this?

AI isn’t just writing your emails anymore
It’s now:

• Researching accounts automatically
• Scoring intent before a human touches it
• Prioritising who deserves your attention today
• Triggering outreach at the right moment

This is the shift from “AI tool” to “AI-native revenue system.”

And it’s not coming. It’s already here.

2026 is the year that all the early adopter pains start moving to practical
Implementation. 

Why this matters right now:

- Cold outreach is getting noisier by the week
- Buyer patience is at an all-time low
- The reps still doing volume are burning trust 
- Targets have gone up

Speed + context + timing = the new GTM edge.

The AI-native GTM stack looks like this:

Signal capture → AI scoring → Smart routing → Human judgement → Close.

Not “spray and pray.”

Not “more sequences.” Yes Outreach and Salesloft are no longer fit for purpose

Most companies think the challenge with AI adoption is the technology.

It isn’t.

The real barrier is tool debt.

Years of software layered on top of software.
CRMs. Project tools. Email threads. Slack channels. Documents.
Hundreds of systems where work is scattered and context disappears.

Then we try to add AI on top of it.

And AI without context is just faster confusion.

I was speaking recently with the Managing Director of a global professional services firm with hundreds of thousands of employees.

What they’ve done is fascinating.

Teams can spin up an Asana  workspace in hours.

Inside that workspace they run projects, allocate work, and coordinate between humans and what we call AI teammates.

Not AI as a novelty.
AI as part of the operating system of the team.

The result?

One command centre for work.

Projects are visible.
Tasks are tracked.
Decisions are documented.
AI agents help move things forward.

Instead of work being buried in:

• endless email threads
• Slack conversations
• disconnected tools

Everything happens in context.

The big lesson for companies exploring AI agents is simple:

AI is not the starting point.

Context is.

If the work lives in email threads and disconnected tools, AI will struggle.

But when work lives in a shared system like Asana, where humans and AI operate together, something interesting happens.

Any who wouldn’t want their own digital teammate working when they are asleep

Most CVs are terrible.

Not because people aren’t talented…

I’ve spent thousands of hours reviewing CVs.

From my early days in recruitment
→ to hiring as a manager
→ to building teams as a founder

…and the goddamn ugly.

Your CV is the single most important document in your career. No Linkedin didnt kill it. It hasnt gone anywhere in 100 years....

And most people get the fundamentals completely wrong.

So I’ve broken it down into 10 simple principles that actually work 👇

• Clarity beats cleverness
• Outcomes > responsibilities
• Numbers win attention
• Keep it to one page
• Tailor it (every single time)
• Strong opening > long summaries
• Remove fluff. Ruthlessly.
• Make it skimmable
• Show progression, not just activity
• Make it easy to say “yes” to you

That’s it.

No fancy templates. No nonsense.

Just what hiring managers actually care about.

my take if you are starting a B2B company in 2026 you are not going to be using legacy Hubspot, Salesforce, Salesloft, Outreach etc .....

You are probably going to go AI-native... but where do you start... drop your suggestions and use cases and founders in this new world and I'd reach out do the interviews and report back.
