LoveBrum

LoveBrum is a Charity.  It reaches out to local Birmingham-based projects that are delivering real change to our already-beautiful city.  Once it finds these projects, it profiles the same and then ask its members to vote on which projects they want to see funded.  

Together, we have so far supported local projects ranging from volunteer/family-led counselling projects dealing with stillbirths and neonatal deaths, to school projects that engage with intergenerational activities within local care homes, to local street-clean-up and soup kitchen campaigns.  

This aside, LoveBrum is a movement for a better Birmingham.  We want to celebrate all that is good in this city and in doing so, hopefully restore some real civic pride.

The experience also honed my operational management skills, from budgeting and resource allocation to project management and client relationship building. A volunteering role, I helped the organisation seek new partners and sponsors with similar values and ethics to support schools’ football, whilst helping with the development of a PR and marketing strategy so that opportunities to raise the profile of the ESFA were maximised.

- Charity. No one has ever become poor from giving.
- Birmingham. I'm proud to consistently champion this city.

And those nice things were:

- Marketing. Web, digital, social media.
- Law. I genuinely still can't believe that I was an actual lawyer.
- Consultancy. Non-Exec. Board Member. Advisor.

And I've done a lot more bits and bobs.

My main focus currently is:

Radio and broadcasting with the BBC.
Hosting and public speaking through my own business.
And charity (which will always be voluntary).

Tutis Online (  a Community Interest Company ) focuses on reducing loneliness and social isolation in older people. We do this by telling stories set to a musical theme. The process reduces stress, improves the mental condition of the recipient, and increases general wellbeing.

My primary aim in my business life, which is focused on my business “TutisOnline CIC” is to assist in the Criminal Justice estate, to improve the experience for those caught up in it. By interacting with prisoners, using music, poetry, small group speaking and storytelling, I am able to help in two main ways. Firstly, the mental well being of the resident is improved by introducing a sense of understanding that the situation they find themselves in can improve, and become more positive in the long term.

Secondly, the act of forming a relationship with me enables  the resident to accept that improvement is possible. In many people this improved mental state encourages them to realize the error of their ways, and so avoid repeating the experiences of the past upon release.

When successfully applied, the benefits to the CJS in the UK is that the manner of the person being held tends to be less confrontational and the outcome as they leave the prison (TTG) is a reduction in recidivism.

Traditionally we have offered musical stories as a way of engaging with residents. This can have a profound effect on their mental wellbeing, in essence it “cheers them up”. However, we now have other activities that produce similar benefits, and these are proving very popular.
