Yesterday, I noticed something uncomfortable.

This is the first year I truly feel like I’m living life on my own terms.

And the interesting part?
It didn’t require everything people said a woman must have.
I didn’t need:
• to marry at 18 because that’s the right age.
• to depend on someone else’s income to feel secure.
• to shape my life around expectations I never chose.

I’m a 30-year-old woman. No kids.
And for some people, that sentence alone feels like a problem statement.

But for me, it’s simply my story.
I grew up in a place where most girls were expected to marry between 16–18.
My mother got married at 18.
My school best friend got married at 20.

And like many girls, I was told early:
Learn cooking.
Learn household work.
You’ll need it after marriage.

But one thing changed everything.
My mother never forced that timeline on me.
She allowed me to think about life differently.

So I waited because I wanted to first understand who I was becoming.
I married at 28.
Not because society was ready.
But because I was.

Growing up, I also heard many things about women that were treated as facts.
- That women should marry early.
- That financial security should come from a husband.
- That ambition makes women too much.
- That leadership suits men better.
- That women are too emotional to make big decisions.
- That motherhood defines womanhood.

But the older I get, the more I realize something simple:
Most of these are just myths we inherited, not truths we chose.
Women are building companies.
Leading teams.
Managing wealth.
Making decisions.
Creating lives that don’t always fit old expectations.
And that’s not rebellion.
That’s evolution.

No one talked about building a life where you earn well, choose well, and live well.
So I decided to create a life that runs on my terms and conditions.

Today, I’m slowing down a little.
Reflecting.
Realizing that life is not a race against someone else’s timeline.

Like athletes have an off-season, this phase of life is mine to:

• build
• and define success for myself

And maybe that’s what Women’s Day is really about.
Don't want to prove anything.
Just want to have the freedom to choose my own path.
Whatever that looks like.

“So what do you do?”
I said, “I help founders build their personal brand.”
He paused for a second and asked the obvious follow-up:

It’s a fair question.

Because on LinkedIn, the term gets thrown around a lot.
Some people think it means posting selfies.
Others think it means talking about your personal life.

Some believe it’s just another word for being active online.
But that’s not how I see it.

To me, personal branding is like leaving a trail of breadcrumbs across the internet.
Every post you write.
Every idea you share.
Every conversation you join.
Each one leaves a breadcrumb.

Over time, those breadcrumbs create a path that tells people:
• who you are
• what you stand for
• what you are known for

And eventually something interesting happens.

When someone hears your name, they don’t need a long introduction.
They already know you for a particular expertise, perspective, or value.

That’s what a personal brand does.
It builds recognition before the room even introduces you.

Through clarity and consistency over time.

That’s the real power of personal branding.

Not when I’m 60.

Small effort every week beats disappearing for months.

 When you genuinely solve problems, money follows.

5.. Own what you know.
Your experience might be the exact insight someone else is searching for.

6.. Protect your energy.
Not everyone deserves your time or access.

7.. Document the journey.
People relate to the process, not just the outcome.

8.. Stay curious.
The moment you think you know everything is the moment growth stops.

9.. Build a life, not just a career.
Success without meaning is just exhaustion with a better title.

10. Ignore the noise.
Trends fade. Real value stays.

11. Think deeply.
Most good ideas come from slowing down, not rushing.

12.. Invest in people before platforms.
One real conversation beats thousands of passive followers.

13.. Be honest about what you don’t know.
That’s how trust and learning happen.

14.. Build things that compound.
Relationships, work, reputation everything should create momentum.

15.. Remember why you started.
When things get hard, purpose keeps you going.

Still learning.

If you're an executive or founder thinking about posting, watch out for these:

Myth 1: Personal branding means oversharing your life. 
It doesn’t.

You don’t need to share your morning routine, family stories, or personal struggles.
Most of the time, people simply want to hear:
• what you're learning while building
• what patterns you see in your industry
• how you make decisions as a leader

That’s enough.

Myth 2: I need thousands of followers first.
Followers come after you start sharing.
Not before.

Many respected voices on LinkedIn started with a small audience and grew because their thinking was valuable.

Myth 3: Posting often damages credibility.
This belief is surprisingly common among senior professionals.
But the reality is the opposite.

Professionals who consistently share insights often become go-to voices in their field because people see how they think over time.

Silence rarely builds authority.
Visibility does.
So instead of trying to become a content creator, try something simpler:
• share a lesson from a recent decision
• write about a mistake that changed how you lead
• talk about a trend you’re seeing in your industry

You don’t need viral posts.
You just need to start documenting what you already know.
Most founders already have valuable perspectives.

They just haven’t pressed post yet.

I built my writing habit in 15 minutes a day (not motivation, not talent).

Most people overcomplicate writing.
They believe great writing needs long hours, perfect ideas, and endless motivation.

That belief almost made me quit content creation.
There was a time when writing felt heavy.
I stared at a blank screen for hours.

I felt pressure to sound insightful.
Pressure to sound smart.
Pressure to post consistently.

And the more pressure I felt, the harder writing became.

So I changed one thing:
I stopped trying to write great content and built a simple 15-minute routine.

If you want to write consistently (especially for personal branding), this helped me.

Listen, if you struggle with consistency or just started:
Avoid:
• Wait for the perfect idea before you start
• Write only when you feel motivated
• Edit while you write
• Try to sound impressive instead of clear
• Set unrealistic writing goals

These habits create pressure. 
Pressure kills consistency.

Instead:
• Write one messy idea every day (no polishing)
• Set a 15-minute timer and stop when it ends
• Capture thoughts from your daily experiences
• Focus on clarity, not perfection
• Treat writing like practice, not performance

That’s it. 
No complicated systems. No pressure.

My personal 15-minute flow looks like this:
5 minutes → dump one idea from your mind (raw, unfiltered).
5 minutes → structure the idea into a simple message.
5 minutes → refine the language for clarity.

Some days the output looks bad. 
Some days it looks good.
But every day the process feels easier.

Focus on this for the first 30 days.
Build the habit first. Improve the skill later.

Today:
• Writing feels effortless.
• Ideas come faster and feel more natural.
• Consistency feels easy instead of forced.
• I show up without fear of the blank page.

Writing does not depend on talent.
It depends on habit and clarity.
The moment I reduced expectations, my writing improved.

Start small. Stay consistent. Build from there.

Here’s the irony.
LinkedIn is full of professionals who want thoughtful perspectives from people actually building things.
But very few people publish.

In fact:
- Only ~3% of LinkedIn members post more than once per week.
